Yes, I think this is the crux of the matter. Americans actually believe, like bone deep, that we are superior in every way to the rest of the world. It’s stunning to me, given the evidence, but that’s why the propaganda machine can give us such upside down reasoning as Caitlin so beautifully deconstructed here and the Sheeple will agree. We HAVE TO contain the evil—insert insult here, commies, A-rabs, N-words—because we are good and righteous and only want freedom for people everywhere. They know these wars are for oil but they don’t care—after all, it’s just those nasty dictators, so oppressive to women they have forced abortions there, that keep the oil from us when they know we have the right to drive anywhere we want to here in the good old U.S. of A. It’s the narcissism of the citizenry that makes us so easy to propagandize and makes Caitlin’s righteous work so important. Thank you again and forever Caitlin. We have met the enemy and it is us.
"The best defense is a good offense" said George Washington and the myriads of popcult. And, as students of martial arts know, the best offense is often a good defense. The two modes of operation are hardly distinct. And, if we drain the Bad Daddy -- Good Daddy strains of moralization rhetoric from our observations, we can get some clarity -- maybe. The US appears to be a declining power, so its interests lie in keeping things the same, because if they progress, they will become worse (from the US point of view). China and its allies appear to be ascending powers. In the particular situation at hand, the US has learned from experience that it will not do well attempting to fight a ground war (or indeed any other contest) on the mainland of Asia -- another hoary truism, illustrated in Korea and Vietnam. What can its leaders and managers then do? It seems they believe that scattering a froth of bases in front of the Chinese will somehow slow them down. These bases cannot sustain a D-Day or Operation Bagration offensive even if the US had the necessary resources mobilized, which it does not. The best its leaders can hope for is to slow the onset of their adversaries through deception and try to keep the home front quiet through pretended "aggression" -- unless they're insane, which unfortunately seems to be a possibility.
I’d agree accept that we have tactical nukes which destroy the land and people that China is trying to ally with. We used white phosphorus in Iraq. We’ll use it again. We’ll do anything to “win” including using nukes on the battle field to “see” if China will respond with missiles. A dying empire is a vicious thing. We as citizens are responsible for taming it.
Right? There is that feeling around here of “if I can’t have you, nobody can have you”— the self pitying cry of the abusive boyfriend before his murder/suicide. I think we are quite capable of doing that. Which means that any nation that has willingly joined us in our rampage thru history will probably pay a big price. That I think is Caitlin’s main motive in her writing—Australia will be on the front lines as we the US sink into oblivion. That I think is why Macron is getting all De Gaullist about France and de-coupling from the US and having verbal congress with China. That’s why BRICS is starting its own money system—they are tired of the US stealing all their sovereign wealth that they stash in our banking system. That’s why I think, so much of Africa is turning to China to get investment and help to liberate that continent from AFRICOM. So in a way, our death throes being so dangerous is a good thing—reminding the world to get away from us as quickly as possible and finding creative ways to do it. I’m not Pollyanna—people are going to suffer. But they were suffering before and at our hands. Now at least there may be suffering for a good cause. But I hate it. It makes my stomach twist as I think about it. I want to push Biden’s face in. And all the sociopaths that got us here—the Clintons, Obama, Shrub and Dick! Merde!!!
The only sensible thing the US can do about China's growth is to reduce their international trade and energy supply. Their vassals will subvert the sanctions and BRICS will evade them entirely so a blockade would be necessary. Submarines to block shipping, and don't allow railroads to get through to Europe.
They'd love to have a proxy war in Taiwan but I don't think the Taiwanese will agree to national suicide. Ukraine has a severe case of having more balls than brains. Taiwan is the opposite and to boot has generally good relations with China.
If Germany is home to 143 US bases is it really even a country? Seems like conquered territory to me. If it wasn't conquered territory you'd think all German politicians would be calling the US out for the blatant act of terror inflicted against it in bombing the NS and NS2 pipelines.
The classical formula for NATO's purpose was "to keep the Americans in, the Russians out, and the Germans down." In other words, a colonial effort. Bombing the Germans' pipeline certainly seems to be part of the picture. I wonder how long the Germans will put up with this treatment.
Germans either deny, deny, deflect, deny, shrug their proverbial shoulders and stare at their shoes, or make excuses for their American masters. "Beat us some more, Master! We deserve it!"
Germans *like* being slaves. A slave doesn't have to make any decisions or take any responsibility. And Germans tell themselves that the life of a house slave isn't so bad, compared with a field slave. Didn't Borrell say something about Europe being a "garden", as opposed to the "jungle"?
Perhaps there might be a struggle for a sense of national identity after the disaster of World War II? And the very close connections Germany then built up with the US, only to find the US now contaminated with rampant ideological corruption and militarism - that the Germans are all too aware of can happen to a society?
I too hope the Germans find a way to cut the suicidal umbilical cord they have with the US - and make their way back into a more humane and rational approach to a healthier identity.
I hope so, too, but for Germans, questioning the Atlanticist orientation is a faux pas akin to interrupting a High Papal Mass to demand that the person who just farted please identify himself.
It doesn't matter that nobody believes a word of the solemnities, it doesn't matter how bad the stink is, You Just Don't Do That.
And Germans, like most other Europeans, are all about The Done Thing. In fact, this is *why* Germans must make the excuses, so that they can keep doing The Done Thing, even if it means cutting own throats in the process.
On the other hand Germany has quite a history, to put it very mildly, going back to the ancient world. Given your screen name, you should check out the Chatti, who were among the tribes that wasted the Romans at Teutoberg. Their name probably referred to the European lynx.
Agreed. Germany the country came into existence in 1871. Within 70 years of their birth they had started 2, count them, 2 world wars. When we took away their guns, they dominated those around them financially with their bank. I think they have their identity—it’s Prussian from the get go. A little horse hair in the the fencing scar and a big Ach tung (apologies for spelling). They are the only people of the world that need “re-education” as badly as the Americans do. And I’m half German.
And yet Germany is the heart of Europe. Or maybe I should say "The Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation" and include France (the Franks were a German tribe), the Benelux countries, and Northern Italy. Not long ago they seemed to be to be the last of the liberal states. The last of the last. Pretty ironic given the history.
We gave Germany the right to dominate Europe thru their banking system. Just ask the Greeks whom they bankrupted. The Germans liked us being there—they didn’t have to pay for any defense, so the citizens worked 4 day weeks and recreated the rest of the time. They got very rich with us as Big Daddy. It was a great deal for them. It was only when we said “you can’t play with the Russians anymore” that they realized they were our bitch. Now it’s too late.
I can’t think of a more important issue facing Americans right now today. The fact we have a run away government that’s aggressive against the world and it’s own citizens. And absolutely everything it does is against our interest as a nation collectively and individually as citizens. We are, America is the reason the world has been in turmoil for the last one hundred years.
This country has been used as a batting ram against all the other nations of the world since WWII.
We emerged from that war unscathed not only that while the war had impacted most the world negatively we were made a industrial power house. And we took advantage of that instead of helping other nations we exploited them in the name of “Democracy”
Read "In search of enemies" by John Stockwell, and then follow up with John Perkins"confessions of an economic hit man". They you will have scratched the surface of what us 'foreign policy " actually is. We deserve what we get from China et. al. God have mercy!
I guess they come up with twenty stories like this, put them out on the Internet, and after a day or so see what works. I can tell you from personal experience with music that what will or will not catch on with the public is very unpredictable.
After unbalanced beta-male Biden characteristically could not resist a chance to beat his chest in public--this time bragging about how he would "put an end" to Putin's pipeline--the only question was how the US would, and later did, do it.
If you've ever been on a sailboat (or even near one) you'd know that it would be impossible for deep sea divers to use it as a platform to pull off the mining of the NordStream pipelines. They don't even have enough space for the length of anchorage chain you'd need to keep in position. And their size? Sheesh!! Yeah, whoever came up with the six people on the sailboat story obviously never has been sailing before. Sad thing is, lots of people will be talked into believing it because they want some story where the Americans aren't the baddies.
2. Censoring "disinformation" is an abrogation of Free Speech and is treason.
3. There was no Jan. 6 "insurrection". Cambridge Dictionary: an organized attempt by a group of people to defeat their government or ruler and take control of the country, usually by violence. There were no weapons to speak of. Once inside, the protesters walked around like gawking yokels.
4. People who got "covid 19" got it again, so if natural immunity doesn't work, why would a vaccine, which also didn't work, since people who were vaccinated got it again.
5. Why was a vaccine the only solution, when all virologists know that the coronavirus mutates like crazy? And why were all remedies made illegal?
Re: 3. The protestors on Jan 6 not only walked around, but were escorted around the building by the security there. Jan 6 has been one huge propaganda event deliberately exploited (and caused) by deep state influences much like the other big lie that Ukraine just happened one day because Putin decided to be an evil man.
It is sickening really how much the bastards in control really don't give a rats ass about anything but their fanatical bullshit that greed is good, and might makes right - and they know what's best for all the rest of us, including a war with China that could turn nuclear.
In fact, a key United States historical document--the January 10, 2021 House Resolution Impeaching Donald John Trump, President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors--contains a lie:
Page 3, lines 14-20 claim that "members of the crowd he [Trump] addressed" on January 6 entered the Capitol and "killed law enforcement personnel".
The USA is a dying empire, and dying predatory animals are always the most dangerous in their final hours. Hopefully it doesn’t take down the entire planet with it. I mean before our natural extinction by abrupt climate change happens.
American Militarists consider every country in the world as they do themselves: as aggressors who seek global domination. Therefore, the entire world's nations are enemies and are treated as such. The American Industrial Complex desires war like a vampire lusts for blood.
"Can you think of anything more insane than that?"
Yes -- even more insane is the root cause of facile propaganda swallowing -- which is that in our insane socio-economic system of compromised ethics, so many are willing to fall to their knees and vomit up their integrity like coprophagic dogs, for thirty pieces of silver and and "good boy" pat on the head.
I will keep this short and simple. Firstly, the US empire creates the image that we are the ultimate good that everything we do is altrustic. Now make any claim about a US competitor and you'll find the US has done the same thing or worse. We have invaded many nations unprovoked. We have used nuclear weapons on a country while no other has. We didn't care about the Ukraine in 2014 nearly as much as we do now. We didn't care about China a decade ago as a military threat because they weren't, and they are still not. We have had a lot of relations with Russia as a country under Putin for 20 years and only now he is this 'big bad Russian'. We were fine with Yeltzen. We have this idea that we need to preemptively stop potential threats before they attack us. Russia, China, terrorists etc. Thing is that is also provocation. There is no evidence either Russia or China intend to attack us. Propaganda sure, but neither is demonstrating any offensive intent, yet we are, by surrounding them with military presence. Weird, that the US is only allowed to do this.
True, those generally follow after our regime changes. We support, instill those who have our best interest. Ironically, that's democracy ;) Kaitlin recently mentioned we don't have free elections at home, her article about how they are for children. We do interfere in other country's elections, I was just keeping with the military topic.
Yeah BJ? I'm gonna be doing more of those in my own home with my fiance and possibly put it on online. My sister used to be stripper, if she is allowed to do it so can I so fuck y'all!
Uh I don't have a pictures of my sister dancing that's just creepy but they pay taxes too so that's on file somewhere and the clubs certainly keep video records bc they are highly surveilled like everywhere else but we're certainly not ashamed of something that's natural and that everybody does too so I'm gonna put more porn on the internet just to shove it in your faces
"We didn't care about the Ukraine in 2014 nearly as much as we do now." I don't know about that, we sure cared enough to overthrow their government starting with the first color revolution in 2004-5, so I think we certainly did care about Ukraine, .... but not enough, in the years from 2014-2022, to literally do one iota for their people. While we were getting them militarily up to speed in those years, Ukraine remained the poorest and most corrupt country in Europe.
Yes, we didn't care about the country, it was our own vested interest. Overthrowing the government was a self serving move. What I was saying is that in 2014 there wasn't an outpour of support for the Ukrainian people. We have a very strong emotional bond about this war. Ask people about Russia and the Ukraine back then and most would draw a blank. I fully agree with what you are saying as it is true. When I said we didn't care in 2014, most were less interested in it than now, as far as supporting the Ukraine. https://scheerpost.com/2023/01/30/caitlin-johnstone-what-the-msm-can-no-longer-say/
That is because the media portrayed it differently than now...very differently.
Frankly, I find it almost impossible to believe any Westerner could actually believe foreign bases on Western soil or environs would go unnoticed and unchallenged in the extreme - "all hell breaking loose"? But then it is a fact, and explains a lot. We are almost too stupid to live.
On some days, I would agree with you completely. But I think it's just that we are very impressionable and can be easily swayed. But most people will understand a reasonable argument.
We should stop referring to China as 'an emerging power' as this implies an emerging military threat, equating the crimes of the US with China. The ruling psychopaths know this to be a lie but the majority of the public, in Amerika and here in Australia, swallow the BS hook, line and the whole damn fishing rod.
China is building their economy by trade with the global south, not by imposing austerity, as the onerous condition of World Bank finance or invading and pillaging their resources and services and not interfering in internal politics in any way. In keeping with Chinas' stated foreign policies.
Maybe we should just call them an emerging economy, which is actually the real threat to US hegemony.
The majority of people living in Taiwan are Chinese. The civil war between the Communists and Nationalists has long been over. And yet the fools in Washington DC want to risk yet another World War over what? Allowing the Chinese to be Chinese in their own native lands? Risk blowing up the world after breaking the many signed agreements already made with China over Taiwan? No wonder Xi doesn't even speak with the bumbling idiot (MIC/Deep State puppet) of a POTUS we now have.
"I wonder if any other country has gone way out of it’s way to try to provoke a shooting war with its largest trading partner"
I dunno. Maybe Sparta and Athens.
It's possible that the idea is to revive manufacturing by forbidding the world to trade with China. This would have to be accompanied by a big devaluation of the dollar. This is coming no matter what.
“…..The idea that the US militarily encircling Russia and China is an act of defense rather than aggression is so in-your-face transparently idiotic that anyone who thinks critically enough about it will immediately dismiss it for the foam-brained nonsense that it is, yet it's the mainstream narrative in the western world, and millions of people accept it as true. Because that's the power of US propagand…..”
Well everyone goes along with calling the huge sums spent on this “defence spending “ and they refuse to call it the war or killing industry, they call it “defence industry”.
As a result not only is this needless killing going on, but the latest move is that the banks are now being asked to invest MORE in the “defence sector”. This is the latest push going on. It’s frightening.
AND Qatar a self proclaimed authoritarian state so small it fits into a London suburb is the largest importer of US arms I believe. Qatar an ally of US/UK. Who is supplying arms to Sudan currently? UAE I read somewhere. Via Qatar? Arms manufacturers Arms dealers … US owns 40% of international arms exports. Russia 16% China 5.2%. UK provides a haven for arms dealers - our corporate regulation is so loose. A detailed analysis of arms trade routes may blow our minds. “The military-industrial complex” requires contemporary analysis … Castro predicted by the way in the 50’s that “the next war in Europe will be fought between Russia and fascism. Except fascism will be called democracy”.
probably the biggest moral dilemma americans face is whether we are willing for our empire to collapse and possibly our comfort and luxury along with it for the world to have a chance of peaceful coexistence. the MIC-pentagon, the intelligence community and most of capitol hill needs to be crushed and scattered to the winds (shout-out JFK) so that humanity stands a chance
Yet, tens of millions of Americans eat this garbage hook, line and sinker.
If only it were limited to Americans.
I wish, it is very prevalent in the UK.
True enough
I am sure.
Yes because they can't live in a world where we aren't "the good guys"
Yes, I think this is the crux of the matter. Americans actually believe, like bone deep, that we are superior in every way to the rest of the world. I thought Russia blowing up its own pipeline was the dumbest thing ever. Then they came up with six people on a sailboat doing it.

Common Sense
1. There can be no "arbiter of Truth".
6. Extreme wealth can be used to corrupt anything or anyone and if someone refuses to submit to bribes or blackmail, that same money can be used to contract an assassin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oilxI6Dgoy8&t=5s). The solution: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wywMhg604W8
7. The Warren Commission investigating the assassination of JFK was headed by Allen Dulles who Kennedy had fired from head of the CIA and who had ties with Hitler (https://ahrp.org/pivotal-role-of-allen-dulles-in-shielding-nazi-war-criminals/).
8. The media in the USA and elsewhere are controlled by an oligarchy (https://www.forbes.com/sites/katevinton/2016/06/01/these-15-billionaires-own-americas-news-media-companies/?sh=160fe445660a), (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concentration_of_media_ownership). Operation Mockingbird (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mockingbird).
It would be great if others offered more examples which I am sure there are many.

Nicely put!
Biden's "America is Back" slogan is the cover for his delusions of "restoring" the US Empire - it's the flip side of the coin of Trump's "MAGA".
It's more dribbling nonsense from our rich, sociopathic Masters.
YOU FORGOT HOW WE HAVE ALWAYS INTERFERED WITH OTHERS ELECTIONS!
Just smart enough to be able to kill themselves, not smart enough to avoid doing so.
That's humans, right there.
On some days, I would agree with you completely. But I think it's just that we are very impressionable and can be easily swayed. But most people will understand a reasonable argument.
Trying to be optimistic - ain't easy.
I wonder if any other country has gone way out of it’s way to try to provoke a shooting war with its largest trading partner
The stupidity of it is mind boggling.
They DGAS about Taiwan. Indeed they don't care about any nation other than themselves, not even the UK.
Seems like there could be an easier way to revive manufacturing then starting a nuclear war. Just say'n ...
