You act like we should all be happy that this war is still going on, and that the West is pouring billions and billions more into this war and pretending there are no diplomatic options at all.

That's the big lie here isn't it Frank? That's the lie that Caitlin is pointing out: that we're all being led to believe there is no other option except killing each other, and spending billions upon billions of dollars that the US economy really can't afford anymore.

And guys like you will likely be cheering on humankind's demise because war must be the only answer - and anyone who disagrees with you are "Putin Puppets".

What a pile of shit.

I think JFK was right - if humankind doesn't put an end to war, war will put an end to humankind.

You're the one claiming that negotiations are surrender.

Yes, and USA has always been right about every never ending war they ever started. Are you serious? This war was 100% provoked, and for 8 years there was a simply diplomatic solution. Even old Kissinger had the same advice Colonels and Generals, and other advisors have been presenting for decades. This Ukraine coup stuff started with GW in 2004, then HRC/Obama in 2014. We win for the number of coups. We are bigoted and intolerant of other cultures, and we will rape, rob, pillage and burn to save the village. I think USA has killed about 20-30 million since WWII. GW maybe 2 million.

The war in Ukraine is over, the Russians are going to prevail, the patriotic fantasy that we stand with Ukraine no matter what is just that, it is a dream; it is over; it is done. Now the only matter left is how much damage our leaders will do worldwide to protect a small kleptocracy from a large kleptocracy and what price will our leaders make us pay to achieve their dangerous dream?

Read "Chapter 6: "Russia: The Failed Superpower" in "Disunited Nations" (2020) by Peter Zeihan. Russia is doomed anyway, and this stupid war will just accelerate its demise.

Chris Hedges would suggest that US Empire is collapsing, and that they can't continue to wage wars around the world and stage coups at the accelerated costly alarming rate we have since WWII. America is not great again, and never well be. In their attempt to dominate, police, and control the world and its resources while gutting its own infrastructure, Western hegemony and its unipolar vision navigated by arms makers, does not bode well for USA or the world. Even Kissinger knew better about Russia and post Cold War diplomacy than any of our corporate leaders. USA long ago missed any rights to claim a moral high ground.

Expand full comment

I fully agree with you. This war will destroy the American domination and unilateral action against any and all Muslim Nations around the world. Simply, the American people seem to be dumb about what is really going on in this world today. The American people are brain-washed to an extent that the US and the West are the best people and all others, even while-skinned people are bad. I support Putin here in this war. Because, logic says that we will have to support the right people, Putin wanted to talk to the US/NATO/Ukraine 6 months before the invasion. The West are not interested thus this invasion. One cannot have a cake and eat it all the time. People still remember what the US/NATO did in Ukraine in 2014.

Expand full comment

Peace is not an option because this is a proxy war. The fault lies entirely on the West, its opportunistic politicians and supporters who try to construct this as an "illegal' war on Russia's part, while they are definitely, resolutely, brutally, without the shadow of a doubt, conducting an illegal war themselves. The Iron Age, and perhaps the more significant,

Age of irony.

What is disturbing are the enabling pundits, the men of quality, like Noam Chomsky, who allow the injustice of the predicament imposed on Russia by a West-controlled Ukraine, yet deny the legality of Russia's response. This makes no sense of the common sort, nor is it justified by International law, which allows self-defence as a legal premise for aggression: yes, you can defend yourself for Chrissake!

Does Russia have grounds? Few deny it, yet it was supposed to wait around for 20 years until the situation resolved itself? Until permission could be granted? The West was obviously not interested in a solution acceptable to Russia, and instead imposed its will in Maidan and its lack of will concerning the implementation of the Minsk Accords. This is an exaggerated parallel to the RC church insistence that an intolerable marriage be tolerated for 20 - 30 years until annulment is granted - on RCC terms. This is injustice with compound interest.

This war is the West's poisoned wedding cake, replete with drooling war-mongers, and military- industrial type exploiters and extortionists - topped off with wild-eyed war and apocalypse lovers.

This is not a war between Russia and Ukraine.

How can this even be considered a "proxy" war at a time when the US/UK/Germany/Poland are openly sending weapons and personnel into help the "brave" Nazis?

It's true, Kissinger was the first to look deep into Putin's eyes and claim he had a pure and clean soul and that he was a good man.

It wasn't until recently I've come to realize Kissinger was a Soviet plant all along advising Nixon to further entrench in the quagmire that was Vietnam. Mohamed is right, Americans are so dumb about what is going on in the world and even at home under their noses. Kissinger, like Gladio after WWII, is part of the Soviet left-behind strategy. The Soviets didn't die, but rather have disguised themselves for the past three decades as capitalist pigs in order to bide their time and await the zeitgeist so they can rise again. The zeitgeist is now.

Quite a scramble and mash. Side note. Some early Cold Warriors made the shift during this Post USSR transition. Go figure. Maybe we should just stick to the US/NATO dream team. Our leaders work for the arms makers. Simple.

Expand full comment

I agree, our "leaders" do work for the arms makers and that includes the weapons that are used for mass shootings right here in America that many in Glenn Greenwald's audience support. It is hypocritically ironical that these critics will decry weapons manufacturers when it comes to military ordinance used abroad but support the sale of military ordinance domestically so their sleeper cells can murder poor black people and elementary school hispanic children.

Whereas America's so-called "leaders" work for the arms dealers, in Russia the "leaders" are the arms dealers. Russia eliminated the middle man. It's much more efficient that way.

And those who want to control guns in US have no qualms with flooding Ukraine with unthinkable amounts of weapons, a country known to be rife with nazis, fascists, crime, civil war, corruption, etc etc. Neoliberals/Neocons are the same party, the war party,

The warmongering republicrats/neoliberals are allies of neocons, are no longer distinguishable from each other, they gutted our infrastructure, stole from our citizens, to fund their globalist wars for resources, and commercial culture created IDpol so petty infighting would create a distraction. Our never-ending wars only accomplished blowback and mass destruction.

Now our hypocritical US leaders/diplomats with their highly charged masses has put us on brink of nuclear war so they might rule the ashes. They do not care how many world wide are hurt. Central & South American nations are removing themselves from US western hegemony and associations. Did you know we tried another coup attempt in Cuba recently? The Cold War is alive, and US is the one in the lead. In 1997 NATO became a greater tool of the weapons makers as they announced massive expansion plans. Stocks spiked.

I am a lifetime activist and started and ran a progressive nonprofit and watched them for 40 drain any hope of a real democracy in USA. I never had children and drained my bank account several times in the name of a cause, risked being at odds with my dad, only to see such efforts coopted and abused by larger interests. All our leaders and diplomats now are paid shills by arms makers. Everything is in interest in promoting and escalating wars, covert activities, coups, creating environments for greater crimes, etc.

US is began bombing Somalia again, and is declaring war on China. We have NO diplomats capable of negotiation or peacemaking. Our security state is silencing people, and GW has been NORMALIZED by Obama, Biden and Clinton. The Bush Doctrine is safe now to move freely, and all the sociopaths in charge are working for Pentagon and the arms industry. This is not NEW NEWS, this has been the case as long as I can remember and why I got arrested so many times 1981-1996, one time with my church in Pasadena. I never brought children in this god awful world, helped homeless at risk to myself, etc etc. all my virtue signaling means nothing. now nuclear power is making huge comeback as opportunists are exploiting this situation. The world better hope Russia wins this sickening war in Ukraine, because if they start to lose, what then? They are simply not going to use their bigger "man toy", "big dick" nuclear weapons?

I am not saying I side with Putin. Surely there were better ways to resolve the Ukraine issue instead of mass killing people. Putin is a mass killer. Not as bad as Stalin or George Bush, but he now joins their ranks.

Do people really understand what war is about? It's not some video game where if you get shot, you just restart in a new location.

When you kill people or when you get killed, that's it. It's over. Whatever you were is gone. Who knows where but you're gone from this planet. Maybe consciousness goes somewhere else, but no one really knows that for sure.

So it amazes me people are so willing to lose their lives in war. Like it was some kind of kids game. This game of killing people and you likely being killed yourself. And all for what? Just so your country can prove it's the 'good guys' and the other country are the 'bad guys'?

Expand full comment

Putin had no options left, other than direct action.

The US installed their own man as president in 2014 and directly supported the mass bloodshed.

The US had ignored Putins attempts at diplomatic solutions and had run numerous bio weapons research labs near Russias borders.

Nato had expanded continually, despite assurances that they would not and were threatening to place missiles on Russias border.

Ukraine has murdered 14,000+ people in the Donbass since 2014 and were poised to commit genocide, having amassed between 60,000 and 100,000 troops on the borders of that region.

Troops that have been raping, torturing and murdering civilians for the last eight years.

The Ukraine media celebrated the burning to death of civilians in Odessa and has also called for the extermination of all Russian speaking Ukrainians.

If you want to talk about mass killings, then look at Azov, Bandera, Right Sector, Aidan, Kraken and the US government / CIA.
