That sounds very much like a campaign to make Substack writers feel as threatened and uneasy as possible. Shouldn’t be surprising, given where we are now, but still... Thank you for all you do.

Naw, it's just a salesman spam scam.

Patrick Powers's avatar

Or maybe just pretending to be one. Somebody has my email address now. No point in worrying about it.

So you’re saying that we aren’t having lunch on Saturday?

Methods aside - history has proven him correct, in many ways... Though to be fair, that's not really Ted K. - but rather, the FBI's somewhat laughable depiction of the "Unabomber suspect"...which was so far off, that it didn't wind up being what got him caught. Instead it was that same brother, who recognized the arguments in his manifesto, and then turned him in.

They do the same shit on Youtube.

Could be Feds trying to get you to e-mail them so that they can ID us. Easy to at least get IPs from e-mail source code unless one uses say Protonmail or the like.

Niki Stone's avatar

I'm pretty sure they have access to the IP addresses of everyone who uses the internet, as well as a trail of every url they have visited and their comments. Worse, if you dont have your cameras taped up, they can see what your face looks like when you are typing, and we know they can record when our phones are off. France has even made this legal

It's not quite as easy to inject remote access tools etc. onto someone's device via those "simpler means."

37's avatar

Likely, but you never know. The feds have hired thousands do troll and do other such stuff as well. Just throwing it out there as an option.

Don't think for a second that there's a whole lot of coordination between the varying depts. and agencies in the Govt. There isn't.

Perhaps, but while I'm the world's biggest skeptic, things aren't always what they seem. The data may be out there, but to think that the dolts that largely run the federal government are on top of all that is laughable.

Happened to me on another writer I follow under a comment I had written on a post a week or two earlier. And about as soon as I saw it and went back to it the comment with a phone number had disappeared. It was definitely a phishing expedition, even thought it all looked like the real writer, the name embedded link took me back to the real writer's page. It was a pretty sophisticated op, to have a viewing trackback capability to know it was viewed they had to have access to Substack's statistical tracking they have for writers to see their visits, views. Not kids playing around. Intelligence of some kind.

That happened to me! I was given a phone # to contact you privately, but I knew you would never do that.

You are one of the most important female voices on the war-ravaged planet. Of course, the empire will do anything to undermine you and make your life difficult. It's a reflection of how important your voice has become that they are investing time in hassling you.

I get the same request if I post to Russell Brand on YouTurd!

Thanks for clearing that up, I got one of those from “you” about a month ago and was wondering about it. Figured it was spam / bot / just so.

Thorsten J. Pattberg, PhD's avatar

There are no spam bots really. It's Russian propaganda. And the Chinese 5cents liberation army. 😂🪬

This is so sad.

I really appreciate your writing, poetry and perspective. Keep up the great work!

Yup. Just got one spoofing you. It (purports to) have a gmail account. Have you reported this to Google? Needs to be shut down at the source as well as being filtered from Substack. Take screenshots, people: evidence.

James Filbird's avatar

That's good to know. I received that troll's message claiming to be you with a Gmail account. I'm 99.9% sure you would never use a Gmail email address for public use. You're too smart for that.

Patrick Powers's avatar

Yep, one of them just fooled me. Gave 'em a piece of my mind, I did.

noah ☭(he/him)'s avatar

Your substack comment sections also have a ton of right wing trolls- non of whom are even authors. But don’t worry. I report their accounts viciously.

Society's Stinky Parts's avatar

You just got fired by NAFO, huh?

noah ☭(he/him)'s avatar

I’m super against war actually, it goes against everything I believe in, you stinky disgusting rotting infected anal abscess. I’m gonna find out your personal information.

Thank you. Got two today “from you”.

PS: Didn’t know you can block somebody on Substack...
