There aren’t words to describe Bolton, Frum et al. And how did priceless Iraqi artefacts of civilization wind up in Manhattan penthouses? See the Uber weasel Michael Steinhardt.

This is more sickening Mad Dog Albright-style “it was worth it” having 500,000 Iraqi women and children die. What could be more perfect? I despise these people who got their positions by replying to ads seeking subhuman primates? So now we know why the US refused to count Iraqi deaths and casualties , flouting international laws and agreements. It makes lying about the numbers that much easier.

Frum may have coined “axis of evil” but ever since he’s been the ass-kiss of evil, brown-nosing in war hawk circles and promoting the fictions about the Uighurs in China from CIA-funded Uighur expats, completely unaware of the heinous world-leading genocide of American Natives.

I was at the war frontier and then in savagely bombed Baghdad during the Gulf War as an international peace observer and saw massive civilian deaths and then witnessed people in desperation drinking from the heavily polluted rivers after the Americans bombed and destroyed the power source of the city's drinking water

Jack, there is no way to ‘like’ that written memory. I can only say how good it is that you posted it. I cannot say I remember what you just described, and I really tried to pay attention. The more of this we get reminded of now, the better. Thank you.

Speaking of making lying about the numbers so much easier, I read earlier this morning that a compilation of 900 lies by Bush administration officials about Iraq disappeared about two years ago from the archives of the Center for Public Integrity.

After a flurry of enraged/ accusatory emails, someone got back to the emailers and said, basically, it was a mistake, and either they’ll be retrieved, or they won’t.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Thanks. I had missed that but not hugely surprised. I’ve seen xeroxed $3 bills with more integrity.

What we could figure out is "HOW" these folks come to believe that what they do is "the right thing to do". What do they "know" that we don't?

Expand full comment

They don't, they're just more skilled at manipulation.

In fact, when you talk to such people, it is remarkable how little they believe in anything, other than their own self-aggrandizement.

Expand full comment

They don't necessarily think it's the "right thing to do". It is for them, though, and that's what matters. And also proves the populace is too stupid to know the difference.

For me, any question of Bolton's sanity was removed during his exchange with Stella Assange on the Peirs Morgan show. It was the first time I'd heard him debate another person and the visceral hate he exudes, even while laughing, is palpable. He is the real personification of a James Bond villain while the West panics over caricatures of Putin.

Expand full comment

Not a James Bond villain, a “regular guy” in the halls of political and corporate power. These are the people leading the US no matter who is elected. They are Cheney spawned and Biden fed. All underwritten by our corporate CEO’s especially the Koch’s and the Mercers. Psychopaths all. The only silver lining here is that they ARE still visible, and haven’t gone down the memory hole. Sunlight is a disinfectant. On a lighter note—did you see how the drag queens in NYC routed the Proud Boys? Lordy, there IS a god and She is pissed!!

Expand full comment

Glad you mentioned Cheney, Jean. Perhaps the most dangerous member of the group of Albright, Bolton, Wolfowitz, Perle, Nuland, Pompeo, Clinton (the Queen bee of death) and almost anyone who assisted in the administration of US crimes from Lyndon Johnson onwards. At times like this, one can still remember the privileged White House group watching 'the great charade'…...Bin Laden’s body being dumped into the sea. A classic.

A special Hans Christian Andersen production. Then there’s JFK (Johnson), 9/11 (Bush), Laos, Cambodia (Johnson/Nixon), WMD (Bush again) and on it goes.

Having just completed re-reading the books of Chalmers Johnson,"The last Days of American Republic" and "Blowback", the crimes so well documented in The "Host and the Parasite" by Greg Felton and the Patriot Act comment "Extreme Prejudice" by Susan Lindauer, I have to ask how could all these crimes occur; just when did American values start to decline; the disgrace that was Iraq and all that meant; how a person like Clinton is not in prison instead of probably throwing her hat into the US election ring in 2024; why Bush has not been charged by the ICC with a death score of up to two million people during his reign.

Still free and lauded at public gatherings. A frightening thought.

But Julian Assange is still in prison.

Here in little Australia we have just indicted an ex-SAS soldier who served in Afghanistan for having shot one, ….just one unarmed Afghan in that disgraceful exhibition of US stupidity, Australian stupidity being the same as US stupidity...all tarred with the same brush that is, Anglo by biological inheritance, Christian in the main, white in colour and Western in thinking and self-deluded as exceptional. The qualities required for being part of the master race, similar to the Netanyahu Jews, known (certainly not affectionately) as 'the chosen people'. Where do we get these gross ideas?

The world as it is now must be sheeted home to Presidents like Bush, Obama, Biden, Trump and their needs to employ people with the characteristics of the above. When you add to that the UK’s Blair, and US sycophantic prime Ministers in Canada, then in Australia, dipping their lid to all, yes, even as far back as the 1960’s to a Lyndon Johnson, a Zionist-supporting criminal if ever there was one in that role, we have a world that allows the greatest of all crimes to go unpunished….like Bush / WMD.

Ask the remaining crew members of the USS Liberty, the trigger for the expansion and inhumane crimes by Israel since 1967, still under way as part of the great Israel objective, “Eretz Israel”. Still so today, but even more arrogant than in the past. They learnt all their tricks and now control everything the US does.

One crime creates the accepted climate for the next one to follow, until in the end, the first one is not really a crime at all, but the norm. And so on it goes from there. No way back..

Yes. So true and so heartbreaking. And maddening. As we have both lived thru these events you’ve described ( are you really in your 70’s? ) I’m sure we’ve been looking for the “cause” of this spiral down into our present ugly state for many years. Myself, I blame Truman with commissioning the CIA which lead to the security state doing most of the things you’ve described. Including elevating Israel (cynically) so we could have a bulwark against the Arabs in the Middle East as we went in to take over British oil interests. And of course who were those criminals but the glorious winners of the WW2, hailed by Europe as heroes. So it goes back a long ass way. And yet is no different from the killing off of the Natives, the importing of slaves, the oppression of women in a new constitutional state for “free men” etc etc etc that goes back to the very foundation of my country. In the end, I think its just patriarchy in a new toga, throwing out the monarchies and using a new excuse—free men—to make war in order to get rich and be dominant and be “elite”. And we have followed that nightmare, calling it a dream, to its bitter end, winding up with tools of war that could end life on this planet and tools of convenience that are ending life on this planet. We need a new paradigm and I think it has to be Mother Earth based, with lots of personal spiritual growth, and lots of cooperative sentiments and ideals. But it’s gonna take a miracle to get there. In the meantime, eat cake and keep the fires burning. The Phoenix is bound to rise from them sometime.

Deep State and Dems are in absolute panic about Trump candidacy in 2024.

DeSantis issued a very poor/weak defense of the latest (threat of Trump arrest) legal outrage – essentially eliminating itself as a serious 2024 candidate.

The only and the best solution for DeSantis and for the US democracy is to issue a statement that

-– he will not run in 2024 elections but

-- that he will be honored if Trump selects him as VP.

I think anyone who believes this anniversary is something to be proud of or celebrate is one sick delusional bunny. Which also ties in with having psychopaths like Bolton in positions of significant power and influence. If we are to change as a society then we desperately need to change the selection process for both voted and unelected positions of government. The whole culture of climbing the slippery ladder and getting ahead in politics, the military and governing bureaucracy actually cultivates an environment of advancement of narcissistic psychopaths to thrive upon. The system is broken beyond repair and there is nothing to hold these individuals in check or accountable. For our species to evolve we need to change the selection and advancement process of those whom we chose to lead us by a different process focusing on different core values.

Bolton represents BOTH parties. And, like those parties, is not remotely interested in the people of any country whatsoever, except as a means to exerting power and inflict punishment and death in that quest. A broad sweeping statement, I know, but I see nothing to contradict it.

I do not think that many, if any at all, of our "elected" officials and the people who are appointed by those "elected" officials, think of themselves as "public servants" in any way. In fact, they consider we the people as their servants. IMO, our government has not been Constitutional for a long, long time, Or democratic. I put elected in quotes because our elections are really the equivalent of a prix fixe menu composed by madmen and corporations.

When you keep in mind that the west was built on violent settler colonialism, trans Atlantic slavery, racism, the eradication of native people, etc, it all starts to make sense.

Hitler looked up to the US for its handling of its native population and used that as inspiration for the Holocaust. The precursors to modern day fascism have been with us since the beginning of the west.

The violence of white supremacism is the common denominator between all these wars of choice and “good interventions”.

Not White supremacism, that is a canard meant to create more war... it is Gangster supremacism. Until we demand our "leaders" stand in the front lines with the cannon fodder we will never rid ourselves of the Watchers.

Nice job, Caitlin. Insightful and well-written, as usual. The warmongers are trying to prevent any comparison to the current situation in Ukraine, claiming that they don't always get things horribly wrong and that instigating war and regime-change isn't necessarily bad and can even have long-term positive results. Too bad most of us can see the propaganda machine in panic right now as their Ukraine narrative continues to dissolve before their very eyes. Also, the fact that Bolton thought he'd be taken seriously as a 2024 presidential candidate attests to his inability to see himself clearly. And yes, he is probably encouraged by the MSM attention he gets, clueless to the dying credibility of that segment of "information" reporting.
