Yes - agree - especially the point about China. Although born in Australia, I’ve lived in China for 10 years now. The Chinese people have now made it through 1. 100 years of humiliation at the hands of western powers from roughly 1839-1949, including 2 brutal opium wars after which they were forced to allow the Western powers to import opium and millions of their people got addicted. 2. Then the Long March and the fight against Japan, from 1931-1945. For the Chinese people their Second World War lasted 14 years and they lost over 30 million people. 3. Then the long rebuilding of their society/economy - including lifting 800 million people out of poverty and supporting developing countries. The western media and ruling class continue to smear and slander the Chinese people and many people in the west believe their own media - just look at the campaign of fear, hatred and suspicion that many Australians bought and which lead to their support for the perverse idea of spending 360 Billion on nuclear powered submarines. The Chinese people have shown great resilience and their country is now a shining beacon of hope - for a multipolar world, for economies serving people not profit, for environmental sustainability, for help for developing countries. They are not perfect, but they are moving in good, hopeful directions!!
Bill Blackwood, From many thanks to Caitlin and then to you. In a world looking more and more like dystopia come to stay, China gives us hope. For all that you have said and more. It is a pity that Australia is enmeshed in a Trumpian world.
Beautifully uplifting, Caitlin. Thank you for being a leader in refusing to give the evil doers what they want…our psychological surrender and capitulation… and in encouraging Hope.
I have been through a bit in my life too and I can attest to the fact that we can overcome even the mist challenging situations and events when we dig deep, hold each other and keep our focus on the horizon.
Agreed, XK. I'd feel a great deal more hope if it were not for the sleaze-brained, scum-tongued, ordure-stuffed, god-bothering turds with their hands on the levers of power and influence.

You are amazing- I needed to hear this! Let's spread hope and peace and goodness so these sickos sink in their own mud
I hold out hope because there are immutable laws that govern this universe and the evolution of human consciousness is an inevitability.
Or, karma is a bitch. ✌️
Radical hope and joy just because is something I believe in. Thanks for reminding us that hope is resistance.
I hold out hope for the children of Palestine. And because people can do this:

Love your writing and your attitude, girl!
"I hold out hope because fuck ’em, that’s why."
Most convincing reason of them all in my estimation. I'd just add "Long, hard, and deep. Repeat as necessary" to the above sentence.
In the interests of full disclosure, I'm obligated to admit that since I gave up hope, I sleep a lot better. ;-)

And you're being charitable in your descriptions of them... ;-)
"I hold out hope because I’ve seen too many miraculous and inexplicable things in this life to believe revolutionary change is impossible."
That's just it (for me). It's those inexplicables that are the fly in the ointment for the nihilists of our time. So, some hope remains.
Any change starts slowly and then suddenly, totally, and catastrophically. We are close.
THAT is exactly the dialectical process, in Nature and in political developments
Kudos to you.
Pessimists/realists like me need people like you!
Thank you for this💐
Thank you for your relentless optimism ❤️
Thanks. I needed this today.
"I hold out hope because I refuse to give them the satisfaction of bending my will toward hopelessness."
That's all it takes. We just have to "follow the arc of the universe" because it bends towards justice.
Good luck with that. Global heating, sadly, doesn't give a damn about humanity.
Charles, Look to the empire's use of geoengineering in that regard!
I hold out hope because of relentless contrarians like you. Do Not Stop.
Outstanding
I love this. Thank you, Caitlin. And seeing what China has evolved into gives me hope that it can even happen here in the midst of this bleakness.
