Carolyn - your comment reflects my own experience - I've been telling others for decades; they aren't interested because they can't or don't want to believe it. One very well educated person I know screamed at me "where do you get your information, I've never heard about any of the things you say." There you have it. She only listens to NPR, PBS, BBC and reads the NYT. I come to these comment threads because no one will discuss the ugly reality we face today.
Humans don't want to listen, because once you start down that road, you have to start making choices. If the society and system that we live under does so much evil, how much will I compromise with it?
These choices can have very real personal and professional consequences. Try not paying taxes and see what happens. "Bartelby the Scrivener" it ain't.
Even if you do compromise, you are left with a guilty conscience.

The people who are not questioning things now, will just have to be the laggards. They'll come on board when they can see it working and we're the ones that know so we are the ones that have to demonstrate it. The people who would need to be on board with ditching the status quo in favor of something better, are all or mostly all, living off the crooked system. I’m one of them, and I dare say you are too. Well that's your interpretation but I never said we should attempt making the empire docile. I don't even know how you got that out of what I said. I'm happy to elaborate on the solutions, but first we have to be on the same page. I said nothing about making the empire anything. In fact what I say is we must forget they even exist and be so busy building our new paradigm that they simply fizzle out from lack of attention, lack of interest. We mean nothing to them anyway and they are going to take everything away from us soon. They already have stolen our heritage of the toil our ancestors worked for to give us better. No the empire is nothing without our attention.
Making the empire docile is a terrific goal. We can do this through fighting hard for more decentralized government and segregation of powers. We do not want a congress “working together “ because you could have it filled with corrupt individuals working together…against the rest of the population. It’s what we have now, I believe. So this starts locally. Reject all central government or mega corporations from imposing on local communities: data centers, cameras, policing, media, food, housing, etc.
Begin work NOW, or preferably yesterday, to secure independence for yourself, your family, your community. Not total independence, which is essentially impossible--but put yourself in a position where you have no debt; you live in an energy-efficient house you own; you control your own water supply, or at least can supplement it with rainwater if necessary; you can grow at least some of your own food; and ideally have some off-gird power source. Work on establishing trade networks, a community garden, a mutual aid group, a collective business, etc.
Everyone knows there's something wrong. A hefty percentage are either vaguely aware and don't have a clue as to what's wrong, or have been persuaded that the problem is commies/blacks/immigrants/Democrats.
But aside from education on the actual cause/s of the crises, we can begin moving forward on what is at least as important as fighting the enemy: beginning to build the alternative, Nate Hagens' Great Simplification podcast has been interviewing experts on a wide variety of subjects for four years, punctuated by his shorter Frankly bulletins. Of late the Franklys are focusing on complex thoughts about how to respond--how to think about how to respond.
It may be that Caitlin's mission is to keep building awareness, but we can't wait any longer to fight back against the attempt to use technology to clamp down on even the possibility of resistance. For one thing, the most important but least discussed aspect is the assault on the environment, on the web of life on which we depend, and that assault is ramping up to a truly dangerous degree.

One very well educated person I know screamed at me "where do you get your information, I've never heard about any of the things you say." There you have it. She only listens to NPR, PBS, BBC and reads the NYT. I come to these comment threads because no one will discuss the ugly reality we face today.
Humans don't want to listen, because once you start down that road, you have to start making choices. If the society and system that we live under does so much evil, how much will I compromise with it?
These choices can have very real personal and professional consequences. Try not paying taxes and see what happens. "Bartelby the Scrivener" it ain't.
Even if you do compromise, you are left with a guilty conscience.

Caitlin I'm going to have to disagree with you. Forget about all the people who refuse to recognize what's going on. They may never realize. That's their track. We are enough now to really make a splash. If we wait for the others, we'll all go down. The program is very strong and knows how to protect itself. It uses denial which is very effective. The people who are not questioning things now, will just have to be the laggards. They'll come on board when they can see it working and we're the ones that know so we are the ones that have to demonstrate it. We do have to talk about it but we have to talk about solutions, rather than continuing to talk about "them" who are really only a projection of us.
Your criticism is rational, but your premise is naive. The people who would need to be on board with ditching the status quo in favor of something better, are all or mostly all, living off the crooked system. I’m one of them, and I dare say you are too. People with something to lose are, by nature, or by choice, conservative. So the crooked system will hiccup and food shortages and housing shortages will turn a chunk of conservatives into eager socialists. The idea that people are going to collectively make the empire docile and friendly is more far fetched than American exceptionalism.
Well that's your interpretation but I never said we should attempt making the empire docile. I don't even know how you got that out of what I said. I'm happy to elaborate on the solutions, but first we have to be on the same page. I said nothing about making the empire anything. In fact what I say is we must forget they even exist and be so busy building our new paradigm that they simply fizzle out from lack of attention, lack of interest. We mean nothing to them anyway and they are going to take everything away from us soon. They already have stolen our heritage of the toil our ancestors worked for to give us better. No the empire is nothing without our attention.
Making the empire docile is a terrific goal. We can do this through fighting hard for more decentralized government and segregation of powers. We do not want a congress “working together “ because you could have it filled with corrupt individuals working together…against the rest of the population. It’s what we have now, I believe. So this starts locally. Reject all central government or mega corporations from imposing on local communities: data centers, cameras, policing, media, food, housing, etc.
So, elaborate on solutions.
Begin work NOW, or preferably yesterday, to secure independence for yourself, your family, your community. Not total independence, which is essentially impossible--but put yourself in a position where you have no debt; you live in an energy-efficient house you own; you control your own water supply, or at least can supplement it with rainwater if necessary; you can grow at least some of your own food; and ideally have some off-gird power source. Work on establishing trade networks, a community garden, a mutual aid group, a collective business, etc.
Everyone knows there's something wrong. A hefty percentage are either vaguely aware and don't have a clue as to what's wrong, or have been persuaded that the problem is commies/blacks/immigrants/Democrats.
But aside from education on the actual cause/s of the crises, we can begin moving forward on what is at least as important as fighting the enemy: beginning to build the alternative, Nate Hagens' Great Simplification podcast has been interviewing experts on a wide variety of subjects for four years, punctuated by his shorter Frankly bulletins. Of late the Franklys are focusing on complex thoughts about how to respond--how to think about how to respond.
It may be that Caitlin's mission is to keep building awareness, but we can't wait any longer to fight back against the attempt to use technology to clamp down on even the possibility of resistance. For one thing, the most important but least discussed aspect is the assault on the environment, on the web of life on which we depend, and that assault is ramping up to a truly dangerous degree.

Let's just not have any authority at all - and we'll all be free! Get rid of environmental oversight! Get rid of corporate red tape caused by the government! He has no respect for International Law that the world has agreed upon - and no respect for the sovereignty of other countries or the United Nations. We have a billionaire bought congress and a billionaire bought senate - and increasing monopolistic power of a handful of trillion dollar corporations because we've done away with enforcing anti-trust regulations. The entire country has gone to shit in the name of unfettered, unchecked so-called libertarian FREEDOM in the name of some kind of unicorn concept that we can run a civilization without law and order or authority.

You only read one thing, put your own biases all over it, never asked one question and think you are right? How about you ask how we get out of this mess? I can tell you because I have actually done the work. Yes, I speak from experience and while everyone was balancing their budgets and investing in the stock market, I was living out of the system for many years. I learned a lot. So you just lumped me in with the rest of the failed without even asking one question. I want to point that out because that is not how we are in the new paradigm. Now you're engaging in ad hominen. That means you haven't got a case you can adequately defend. Through eons of being slaves people answer like this quite often. Programming again. The programming defends itself by trying to put the other person down rather than address points of contention. You have made a conclusion without even asking me if I do have the solutions. Perhaps you have a negative view that nobody could have the solutions and so you will act accordingly with that basic belief system. I'd welcome questions because I can assure you I have them. We should be having a socialist revolution. That is the only way to get rid of these Nazis. Elections don't work. Protests are just a safety valve. The whole rotten edifice needs to come down.

I too think it is high time for people to stop complaining and focus on a positive program that can win majority support. This should be easy as pie. There are plenty of issues that majorities want that are completely ignored by the system. I cannot understand why such organization is not already taking place.
