The level of desperation on the part of empire managers is palpable. Control freakery run amok in the place where they love to boast that “they hate us for our freedom”.

Davina's avatar

What freedom would that be? Seems to me that governments that side with the US are becoming more like North Korea and Al Quidas each day Drumpf sits in the whitehouse spewing lies.

The empire managers lost their grip a long time ago but way back when it was McCarthy and supporters coming unstuck, there was no internet, no cell phones, no social media. Just newspapers and the radio and then TV. But the media did not let us non elites know too much and many really believed what they were told. Communism was a terrible ideology. Akin to Nazism. Zionism was never mentioned. Those in power were looking after us in this country. Now, we, the people, know. We can see what they are doing. We know they are all liars (well, there must be the odd truth teller who won't last long) and we do not matter at all to the elite except when they need workers. Now we just have to figure out how to stop them.

"A reinvigorated COINTELPRO for the 2020s, this time with police drones and AI-assisted mass surveillance."

And this time we're ready for it. We know what the drones and an AI surveillance system can do. We know how to shut their tools down, and we know we outnumber the fascists. They're losing and now is our time to act.

It's time to do as the original Captain America said in the comics and "Punch a Nazi!"

Another on point and to the heart take. America has always had its imperialists and slavers. Since the late 19th and early 20th C also strong local and federal agencies designed and devoted to suppressing protest. The oligarchs and capitalists are clucks; self-aware oppressors that lean on their attack dogs.

TomR's avatar

Perhaps the difference now is the use of technologies not available to past authoritarians: universal surveillance that precludes any privacy; the punitive ability, as with Francesca Albanese, to make daily living difficult to impossible (e.g., buying groceries, travel); the ability to create imagery and narratives through AI to shape perceived reality.

They built the panopticon, and we helped by our use of it, by making it all so convenient.

"But the fact that this is happening in the first place should inspire hope, not despair."

Well speaking for myself, I don't find this hopeful but awfully frightening. If one reads history books on the rise of fascism in countries - it always ends up with a police state rounding up protestors and particularly the Leftists ... in stadiums ... in internment camps ... in police stations geared for secret torture. ICE already killing Americans in the streets for protesting and getting away with it.

I mean, I'm old now - so I guess it shouldn't bother me so much?

Davina's avatar

I think, Jamenta, that it should bother us more because we aren't young enough to be out there helping to do something about it, but we sure can do what we can in other ways, because these new ugly laws will possibly affect our children and their children's children's children.

Carolyn L Zaremba's avatar

Exactly. I am old, a veteran of the antiwar movement during Vietnam and a socialist. I can hardly even leave my home these days for health reasons, but I do everything I can to support protests and contribute to forces who fight against fascism. The young are wising up and it is their turn to join the fight.

Here's a post that just went up of an interesting discussion between Chris Hedges and British climate activist Roger Hallam on the need for truly revolutionary insight and leadership to survive what is rapidly rolling toward humanity. We ain't gonna vote our way out of it. We need a whole new view of ourselves and the world to confront the evil in the world.

As Hallam observes: "The religion didn't come in until the modern period. Before the modern period, the notion of religiosity, as you might say, was impregnated in all aspects of life. And what modernity did, what secularity did, what the capitalist regime did is stick religion as a noun and stuck it as something that happens on Sunday and some weird belief in some 'other' called God."

My Prime Minister @markjcarney attended this unholy gathering. I'm sure my other PM, Meloni, was there as well...

The funny part is that, while this will set a precedent democrats will use, the targets will be the same: genuine anti authoritarian and totalitarian sentiment.

TomR's avatar

Excellent point. Any new use of power by one regime then forms the baseline for the next regime.

Yeah, when you stop looking at them as separate entities (“parties”) and look at the people they target absent any labeling, the pattern reveals itself.

Shit this ain’t got nothing on what the other braggadocios claim he made today. He LITERALLY admitted to front running the market. But that’s not all, for a modest fee of $100k you can get on the action too.

This is extremely and I mean EXTREMELY troubling to me. Not because it’s a crime but because he dared to do it. Every time I try and put it into perspective I get nauseous.

Caitlin had a truly brilliant piece the other night. Talking about “Lib Institutions no longer against DT.”

It really helped me piece so many things together. I wish I could tell you that it would soon bear a positive result. Unfortunately that’s not the case. Keep watching closely. See if they start to waver. And then get ready.

So funny I talked to this Black chick the other night. Used to date her and why she put up with my shit no idea. I asked her about “Obama’s and Movies.” Just to see what she said. She knew immediately. Talking about the cyber attack movie and she said what i thought “it was a warning.”

Ain’t trying to freak none of you out. Am merely telling you to keep your head in the game.

Sorry, but I’m nervous as the noticing accelerates. PS Candace is Vindicated. I CANNOT believe this is has been let loose.

The US has been doing this kind of thing for decades. You should follow Rep. Luna out of Florida. When President Trump says far left terrorists what he should have said is CIA sponsored far left terrorists.

I love you Caitlin but why have stories like this? Do we expect anything more from these who pal around with pedophiles and say nothing about it to boot? We could be talking about setting up a currency that we could use instead of the bankster's currency. But we don't. We could be seeking ways of decoupling ourselves from this hideous system. But we don't. Instead we keep saying over and over oh how bad these guys are. And yes we know. Now let's start talking about what we can do about it shall we? Your brains shouldn't wasted on these turds.

Caitlin Johnstone's avatar

You're not going to get to mass-scale solutions until there's mass-scale awareness of the problem. People need to know there's something wrong and what it looks like before there's enough political will to build political movements and take political action. We're far from that awareness right now. First thing's first.

David Avenell's avatar

Indeed. You cannot treat or cure a disease until you can convince the patient they are ill and up here in the Deep North that is a truly Sisyphean task.

denise ward's avatar

Not so. We are the ones who must plant the new ways. We are like seed people because we can see through the dysfunction. There is no use waiting for them. They may never catch on. We need to put ourselves into action, there are plenty of us now. I think it's a bit of an excuse to say wait till the slumberers wake.

denise ward's avatar

Caitlin I'm going to have to disagree with you. Forget about all the people who refuse to recognize what's going on. They may never realize. That's their track. We are enough now to really make a splash. If we wait for the others, we'll all go down. The program is very strong and knows how to protect itself. It uses denial which is very effective. The people who are not questioning things now, will just have to be the laggards. They'll come on board when they can see it working and we're the ones that know so we are the ones that have to demonstrate it. We do have to talk about it but we have to talk about solutions, rather than continuing to talk about "them" who are really only a projection of us.

Carolyn L Zaremba's avatar

Some of us have been telling people about this for DECADES. Anyone who doesn't know what is going on obviously doesn't want to know. Anyone who gets all their information from corporate media is ignorant of reality. I know people with college degrees who still have NO IDEA what the true state of the world is.

denise ward's avatar

I so hear you. Actually they are the most indoctrinated. It's all by design. It's great we must keep telling them and get more vociferous as the days go by. I am just saying what I think now, to hell with anyone who is shocked. They get offended, yeah really? Well what about us waiting for them to even have the conversation!

Just read your latest June 28 substack post Denise Ward where you write:

"This thug life is based on the belief that someone has jurisdiction over you. People believe this because they’ve never seen anything else that works. They believe that without having authorities over us, some humans will attack and assault them. They believe that we have to have some people making the rules because they also believe that people are inherently bad."

You sound like some defending being a criminal like Donald Trump. Like an Ayn Randian libertarian who wants to do away with all regulations and society "rules" - that any criminal thug would love, particularly white collar Wallstreet billionaire criminals. I've been hearing this anti-rules, anti-regulation, anti-government tripe now since Ronald Reagan and his trickle down economics bullshit. Let's just not have any authority at all - and we'll all be free! Get rid of environmental oversight! Get rid of corporate red tape caused by the government! It's always the same damn narrative coming from people like you Denise.

And look what we now have as a result of this immoral libertarian ideology for the past 50 years: we have a sitting president who has no respect for the US Constitution - which he flagrantly violates daily. He has no respect for International Law that the world has agreed upon - and no respect for the sovereignty of other countries or the United Nations. We have a billionaire bought congress and a billionaire bought senate - and increasing monopolistic power of a handful of trillion dollar corporations because we've done away with enforcing anti-trust regulations. The entire country has gone to shit in the name of unfettered, unchecked so-called libertarian FREEDOM in the name of some kind of unicorn concept that we can run a civilization without law and order or authority.

And you're going to sit and lecture to people on this forum about how we're not doing anything - while you write substack posts that "rules" are bad for a society. What a load of condescending shit.

denise ward's avatar

You only read one thing, put your own biases all over it, never asked one question and think you are right? How about you ask how we get out of this mess? I can tell you because I have actually done the work. Yes, I speak from experience and while everyone was balancing their budgets and investing in the stock market, I was living out of the system for many years. I learned a lot. So you just lumped me in with the rest of the failed without even asking one question. I want to point that out because that is not how we are in the new paradigm. Which I am living right now and have been for years. You can live on assumptions but that will only keep you back. Time to think quickly now as the pace shifts faster.

jamenta's avatar

You have no idea who I am or what I've lived thru, what I've done and achieved in my life. Or what I am doing now. Few people do in fact.

And yes, I am lumping you in with the rest of crackpot libertarians who believe a free society can be built by not having any rules at all - or a government.

Carolyn L Zaremba's avatar

We should be having a socialist revolution. That is the only way to get rid of these Nazis. Elections don't work. Protests are just a safety valve. The whole rotten edifice needs to come down.

denise ward's avatar

Let it wither by building the new now. Just imagine, what would you do when they are gone? And start talking about what that is and we can do it now. It will come down, and when it does, we'll be all set because we set the foundations.
