Anyone trashing the Iranian “theocracy” needs to fucking realize that the THEOCRACY is the reason Iran does not pursue nuclear armaments (despite what the ziofilth try to cram down your throat.)

As for Cuba: well, we have to make Little MarKKKo Rubio (the “little” refers to his prick) happy, so his rich Cuban mafia family, who fled the Revolution, can return and make a killing. Literally.

Jay Tse's avatar

Well, then this theocracy of Iran may ultimately lead to their undoing. North Korea was smart enough to develop nuclear weapons as defensive protection against the US.

gypsy33's avatar

Hi Jay

I didn’t say it was a good thing.

Wren's avatar

I bet the fatwah will be revoked now.

Brian Bixby's avatar

Probably not, a central tenet of Shi'a Islam is the protection of innocents in conflict zones, it's not something that can just be removed because it's inconvenient. Nukes have one use, destruction of population centers. Even if you assume that every Israeli is equally guilty of genocide there are still hundreds of thousands of Arabs, Bedouins, Palestinians, and Persians who would be killed, which is incompatible with the belief of the majority of Iran.

(Nukes can also power spacecraft and excavate large areas, but no military will allow their peaceful use.)

gypsy33's avatar

Hi Brian

I would only hope that Iran might develop nuclear weapons as a deterrent to IsraHell. Because you are correct: why would Iran nuke historic Palestine?

Baz's avatar

The Empire is on a roll gypsy, they obviously want to make Cuba ‘great’ again.

Jennifer Akdemir's avatar

Meaning run by the mafia with loads of prostitution to cater to rich white boys on holiday.

Baz's avatar

Plus, they probably want to expand Guantánamo, was never quite big enough for their plans.

The "theocracy" was foolish not to have gotten The Bomb when it could have.

Couldn’t agree more Dear Kitty.

Hopefully it’s not too late.

In parts of Latin America he's called 'Narco Marco' because of his longstanding ties with Cuban mafia figures.

Hi Gypsy girl, you mention Rubio's little prick just as I was thinking maybe Drumpf can't get it up and is compensating by trying to become world emperor. Add to that that Melania has looked very happy lately - because he doesn't visit her bedroom - or someone else now does?

gypsy33's avatar

Heya Davina

I’ve always thought that about overaggressive men. Overcompensation for what god didn’t give ‘em! 😉

I highly recommend the latest piece from Chris Hedges this morning to anyone who hasn't already read it:

https://chrishedges.substack.com/p/the-machinery-of-terror

Patrick Powers's avatar

As Chris once said, "I am not an organizer." I see no sign of organized resistance. Just complaining and sporadic protests.

The state is doing whatever it can to eliminate effective organizing, largely by control of mass media. The Ds put it in place, the Rs continue it.

"Opponents of the regime, including those within the establishment, make sporadic attempts to resist. They throw up temporary roadblocks, but they are soon purged."

Duane McPherson's avatar

I just read it and do not recommend it. It's Chris Hedges on an extended doom-screed.

Screw that. Celebrate life with your friends and family. Breathe fresh air. Listen to the wind and the birds and insects. The antidote to fear is unconditional love, and the universe is filled with it, practically overflowing with it. You are soaking in it, right now.

Susan T's avatar

Duane McPherson: The antidote to fear is resistance and educating ourselves. Nobody who writes about what is happening in our world is on an extended doom scroll. They are telling us what is going on. We need to pay attention. Unconditinal love for the lunatics that are destroying our world is immoral. I read what Chris Hedges wrote. It is history. He is telling us what he saw. I heard about many of the same things. Things like genocides happen when people don't learn from histoy.

Feral Finster's avatar

The Empire is well aware of history, and they want to get them someathat.

Susan T's avatar

But it would seem that people who might resist the empire have not learned or, at least have not paid attention, to history. The empire never changes. They want power and more power by any means possible or "necessary"

Feral Finster's avatar

Too many of the humans who might resist the empire live in la la land.

Susan T's avatar

lets work on getting them to move out of there

Qudsia's avatar

I hope you're being satirical. Else, please watch 'Don't look up' if haven't yet.

Also, antidote to hate can be love, but antidote to fear has to be courage -- courage to take action against whatever is causing that fear. Mix in education with each antidote to learn the facts to separate reality from fiction and propaganda.

David Avenell's avatar

That sounds like a whole lot denial. Stick your head up your backside and ignore the reality.

To quote John Lennon, 'If your not part of the solution you're part of the problem.'

Hope you enjoy your oppression and suffering.

Duane McPherson's avatar

We are already living in the dystopia that we had hoped to avoid. I think Caitlin has written about that. Along with Jonathan Cook, and others.

It's likely to get much worse before it gets better.

Surviving and emerging from that dystopia is the long problem that you should focus attention upon.

Patrick Powers's avatar

No one seems to know who first said that, but it wasn't John Lennon. I first heard it on a recording of Jesse Crawford in 1968. It seems to be a folk saying that evolved gradually.

David Avenell's avatar

I have no idea who said it first and I didn't say it was Lennon. John Lennon might well have been quoting somebody else, just as I quoted Lennon.

But a valid statement remains valid, regardless of who said it first.

Patrick Powers's avatar

I once read a statement by a German who had lived through the 1930's Nazi takeover. He said, "we watched as though from the balcony of a theater."

Besides, you don't have to worry about fascism 24 hours a day. Indeed you don't have to worry about it at all. Just do something. Aside from that just live your life.

David Avenell's avatar

Doing something precludes doing nothing about the problem, which seems to be what Duane was suggesting.

Amos's avatar

If a person feels like they’ve seen enough doom for today and needs a break from it, that’s fair enough.

I tend to read Chris hedges, so I will probably get round to the article in question, but really, is it going to tell me anything I don’t already know? Is it going to change my behaviour at all? Bearing in mind that I’ve been reading Chris and Jonathan and Caitlin and Ricky and all the gang all this time?

Is there anything meaningful I could do about any of this shit that I haven’t been doing for 20 years already?

Yes, we have a responsibility to be informed; but once we are informed, nobody is under a moral obligation to read everything you tell them to.

My interpretation of the offending post here was “oh yeah, that again, I’ve read that kind of stuff before, I don’t need to read it again, at least, not urgently.” Which to be honest is fair enough and you haven’t got the right to complain about it.

David Avenell's avatar

Some of the points you make Amos, are fair enough, but you ask is there anything you do to make a difference.

Here in Australia, I've been asking myself the same question since the '60s

- the Vietnam days and I realised that the very least I can do, is talk to the people around me about this shit and try to wake them up to reality.

And knowing about it already, makes it harder to justify not doing even that, and in truth, we did have some successes back in the '60s and '70s.

Even though they didn't survive later Govts.

We don't need to urgently read something, we urgently do somrthing

Amos's avatar

Do you know what though, I have some involvement with the youth of today and I am very impressed by them. It seems like the project to immerse them in a sea of bullshit has taught them to know bullshit when they see it.

This time last year senior academics were telling us that AI was already better than a PhD researcher; by now, undergrads are refusing to use it. They’re not soft and they cotton on quick, the kids. The game now is whether we have hamstrung them and straitjacketed them too much, or whether they will be able to transcend our limitations before the world we built caves in.

I am not betting against the kids!

Duane McPherson's avatar

Most people are too busy 'doing something' to sit down quietly and try to understand the problem. If you don't understand the problem, how can you solve it?

David Avenell's avatar

Indeed, an ancient Greek or Roman scholar ( I think it was Socrates ) said: The most important activity one can engage in is not action, but contemplation. Because if you don't understand how the world works, then how can you change it?

Or words to that effect

Trump is a megalomaniac drunk on the power he has taken for the Executive-himself. These assumed powers will serve subsequent presidents of, perhaps, different parties and then the MAGA complaining will start with no thought for consistency! Guaranteed. These overreaches need to be curtailed now.

Then, being a self-admiring person of the highest degree, he is agreeing to the requests of the biggest flatterers. Israel owns him in all regards and the flattery is steadily incoming.

He changes his mind constantly and puts out these juvenile, ridiculous tweets. Yet, people suffer because of his whims and demands. Tens of thousands die.

I watch all of this with horror.

Patrick Powers's avatar

The US system is built upon a solid foundation of hypocrisy. I can't be bothered to point it out any more. I believe they see this as a strength.

John Turcot's avatar

“Trump changes his mind constantly”…. Implies he has one that thinks for itself…. Nah!

Wren's avatar

Agree. He THINKS he thinks for himself, though.

John Turcot's avatar

“He thinks he thinks” even that assumption may be a bridge too far…

Patrick Powers's avatar

I have no idea what is going on in there so I don't try.

Jennifer Akdemir's avatar

Let's not forget who voted for it.

Diana van Eyk's avatar

Such an important point. And we all should know by now that Mossad is involved. Iran doesn't need a colour revolution.

Feral Finster's avatar

Of course Mossad is involved. Doesn't matter if it works.

If I may borrow a question from my dear Feral:

What do you propose to do ?

What “revolution”? There is no revolution. Instead of whining about free health care (you knew all along that this country DOES NOT PROVIDE IT) are you ready for violence? To give your life in the name of real patriotism?

I’m armed and ready. You?

You’re nothing but rhetoric.

Stephen Walker's avatar

The US and it’s vassals have massively intensified the economic war on Iran in the last four months. Meanwhile, Israel has activated its network of armed agent provocateurs inside Iran to take advantage of genuine protests related to economic hardship. The empire and its propaganda lackeys (The Guardian, Trita Parsi, etc.) will not succeed.

Is that the alternative to electiing progreessives who will vote down arms shipments to Israel, attacks on Venezuela, Cuba, Mexico, and Iran? Is that the plan?

Alan's avatar

Even the machines are controlled now just like the constant chemtrails. Elections are a feel good farce. Sorry.

dale ruff's avatar

Contrails is myth perpetrated by the oil oligarchs to distract from the destructive power of their dirty fuels. You agree with Trump that eledtions are rigged so why vote: when people don't vote, guess who wins........Trump and reactionaries rely on demeaning voting to lower turnout, which is the only way they can win. So thanks for showing us which side you are on.

Amos's avatar

Yeah Trump bad, dems good, I remember the drill from the last election. Voting for either cheek perpetuates the problem. When both parties are functionally the same then democracy is already dead.

Tough shit dude! Democracy was a lovely mirage while it lasted but it’s gone now, the lesser evil killed it by being insufficiently less evil.

dale ruff's avatar

AOC, Sanders, and others have called out genocide: the majority of Dems in the Senate voted to stop arms to Israel. If you think that is working for Israel, you also think War is Peace (1984).

dale ruff's avatar

There is a Trump team but there is no "dems." The Democratic Party is a battlefield of opposing forces, the old order of corporate centrists who have controlled the party and those working to replace them with democratic socialists and radical progressives. If you do not see the battle, you don't want to so you can continue to justify your dismissal of the opportunity to transform the "dems" into a party that will stop arms to Israel, stop the war on Venezuela, Iran, and Cuba, bring us universal healthcare and rational gun laws. This is not rhetoric but a fact backed up by bills and votes. When you refuse to support the movement for change, you become the enemy of change and the ally of the reactionary forces. I am not talking of less evil but of change.......so either lend a hand or get out of the way of those working to bring it about.

Amos's avatar
Jan 13Edited

“ your dismissal of the opportunity to transform the "dems" into a party that will…”

No such opportunity exists! It’s done and over! Jesus Christ how many times will you fall for the same scam!

Now if YOU are unwilling to see the opportunities that exist and the change that must be made - namely to set aside the lesser evil and try to actually change the world… then I guess nothing can change for the better till you are in your coffin. The insane determination of people aged over 40 to try to preserve the illusions of the 90s is the cause of the crisis we’re all looking at.

The crises in Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, Ukraine, Palestine, Sudan, etc., were all incubated by the “dems”. Voting for them again will not ameliorate these problems. Grow up.

Amos's avatar

“ This is not rhetoric but a fact”

No, it’s rhetoric.

If the U.S. attacks Iran and lays waste to that great civilization, there is absolutely no way Russia will remain on the sidelines. If they couldn’t abide an EU/U.S. armed and funded NATO hopeful (Ukraine) on their border, there’s no way they will tolerate a failed state run by U.S. and Israel directly across the Caspian from them. A U.S.-Israeli assault on Iran, therefore, could be the beginning of WWIII.

Patrick Powers's avatar

But the USA has already attacked Iran.

AnF's avatar

And was told off, and nearly lost a carrier over it (it was damaged off the coast of Yemen).

Israel was panicking because their "impenetrable iron dome" melted like wet paper against a bunch of old missiles from Iran, so they pulled back too and opted for the current strategy of trying to destabilize Iran from within.

Years ago I heard a missile expert from MIT declare the iron dome a phony. He said it wasn't even effective against the tiny homemade missiles from Gaza.
