It would be easier to cope with.. If I hear one more time how angry Biden was during a conversation with Satanyahu, I'll have to puke in my mouth... or if I have to hear what a "decent" man Biden is.

The West Wing set have a raging boner for this sort of thing, for making excuses for their heroes because they acted as a result of some supposed internal conflict. The interpersonal drama doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter whether Biden is annoyed with Israel, as long as the latest shipment of weapons goes through. Those weapons work just the same.

It doesn't matter whether Obama had a sad when he ordered a drone strike on a wedding party. Those innocents are just as dead.

It doesn't matter whether Johnson really thinks he is an avatar of St. Winston Churchill or whether the CIA told him that play time is now over, or else we'll just have to do The Other Thing. His vote for war counts just the same.

I love life. And I'm an old person. And I fear losing it all. I've already lost my youth. That in itself is quite a blow.

However, my suffering is nothing compared to what is happening right now in Gaza. :( And it is a far greater tragedy to see someone young lose their life (I agree) - for they never even got a chance to live.

Of course Biden is a decent man and he is doing things he doesn't like doing . And as George Orwell would have said If it sounds and looks like Big Brother is saying and doing things which feel unpleasant that is because the enemy the ANTI SEMETICS are attempting to turn a decent god and country loving society into its chaotic opposite. These students are attempting to kill all Jews on the campuses and have been brain washed by secret Russian and Chinese agents. Remember Israel is the Holy Land and is being attacked by demonic Islamics who are killing hundreds of women and children and blaming it on the Holy Warriors.

The fact that it is sometimes awkward for others to get their heads around such changes does not warrant such hatred and ridicule.

Expand full comment

Everyone already has, and of course should have, the right to exist without violence. They also have to the right to identify as the other sex, a teapot or as a cat if they wish. That doesn't mean that I have to play along with it. I have the right not to. If someone is offended by this, that is their problem. Offence can only be taken, not given.

The rights of women and girls to women only spaces, changing areas, prisons and sports, to safety and dignity, should not be overridden by pressure over using pronouns.

It's similar to the comments made above about the fact that we live in a post action world where only feelings count. The evidence is that vulnerable, previously sexually assaulted women have been locked up with sex offenders who have a penis and have been assaulted again. This trumps someone's feelings being hurt because the 'wrong' pronoun was used.

The feelings of Jewish people who say they are scared on campus and their rights are being attacked do not trump the abuses against Palestinians in Gaza.

It is physically dangerous for me to use the men's room when I am in a dress. The same goes for Trans Men who would be forced to use the womens restroom.

Trans women also get Sexually assaulted in prison at a 13 times higher rate than other prisoners. Passing additional laws criminalizing Trans people is functionally making the penalty for being Trans Sexual assault in prison.

These laws presuppose that all Trans people are sexually deviant for trying to live safe lives.

Hi Lillian,

If you had said that you were prohibited from relieving yourself in any bathroom I'd have felt a bit sorry for you, though not as sorry as I am for Gazans who not only don't have any public conveniences, nor public services at all, they don't have the right to do anything in safety, which you do. What you mean is that you are not allowed to go where you want; which is into areas designated, with good reason, for girls, women and accompanied young boys, because you are a man.

If you beaten up in the men's loo for wearing a dress then your rights are not being taken away from you, it is illegal. This also is presupposing that men in toilets not wearing dresses care enough to risk arrest and incarceration and are not dudes minding their own business and trying to live their lives in safety.

I suggest that belligerently protesting your rights, such as the Jewish people unnecessarily crossing lines of Palestinian protestors to get to class when another route was clearly available, does not help society to accept behaviour that is different to the patriarchal norms that we've all been conditioned to accept. Society needs time to adjust, such as it did with homosexuality and the influx of Black people with the Windrush generation. The brain also needs time to adjust, such as double taking when seeing people with limbs missing, facial disfigurements or multiracial families. The majority of people are not racist, homophobic, transphobic nor cruel, they just need a bit of slack. I also suggest that BLM and transactivism deliberately creates more tension and division, not less, and will lengthen the time it takes for society to adjust.

You point about prisons is very important as it shows the difference between men and women as well as the need for prison and 'justice' reform on a massive scale.

Just about everyone is beaten up in men's prisons. In March 2000 Zahid Amin was murdered in Feltham jail by his cellmate; who was known by prison guards to be a violent racist. Zahid was 19, on his first offence for stealing a packet of razor blades and was coming to the end of his 90 day sentence. Does this mean that the punishment for being Asian is to be beaten up and murdered? No, the punishment for doing a crime is prison, where people are assaulted, not for being Trans or Asian. Does this mean that Zahid or Trans people should have been allowed into the safety of a women's prison where some, even convicted sex offenders, have been allowed in to assault and rape women? (Women inmates are drug offenders, shop lifters or involved in prostitution, ie more likely to have been abused than abusers.) No, it means that in a so called civilised society locking men up, for non-violent crimes, where they are able to beat and murder each other (and are also malnourished and mentally abused), with the knowledge of prison guards, is a total disgrace. Prison is a racket. It absolutely does not mean that biological men should be allowed into women's protected spaces of prisons, changing rooms, sports and bathrooms.

And former French foreign minister Catherine Colonna's report predictably concluded that there is no evidence that the agency is 'brimming' with Hamas.

Distraction and deflection is a time tested strategy to divert attention away from Israel's true motive - to "thin out" population of Gaza while rendering the Gaza Strip completely uninhabitable while inducing a large scale famine so that with time, the Palestinians who survive will face an existence so bleak that they'll have no choice but to up and leave if they want any semblance of a future.

Expand full comment

Where would they go to?

Expand full comment

Most obvious answer seems to be the Sinai. 1.4 million Gazans have been driven to the southernmost governate bordering Egypt, have been sealed off from the rest of the enclave and now the Israelis are bombing Rafah + going to invade. There's only one place left to go when the predictable bloodbath ensues - Sinai.

Satellite imagery on the Egyptian side of the border with Rafah shows some sort of large encampment, tent city holding area being built. Chris Hedges wrote a piece about herding Gazans onto ships and sending them out to the sea to force others to take them (as was done with the PLO during Israel's invasion of Lebanon in 1982, which is how they ended up in Tunisia).

Egypt so far has denied the reports regarding tent cities/encampments and threatened to tear up the 1979 peace treaty if Palestinians get forced into the Sinai. That's hogwash in my opinion. Most Arab regimes are subservient puppets of the neo-imperialist West (which includes Israel) because they're beholden to them both financially and militarily. They're all run by despots who don't have to care about public opinion. Egypt in particular has been in deep economic trouble for years now and is being held together by a combination of IMF loans and American military + financial aid. I suspect if the price is right, Sisi can eventually be bribed to open the gates at the Rafah border eventually (especially when the 'humanitarian catastrophe' that West and Israel supposedly want to avert predictably ensues).

Although this isn't directly related, I think it's imperative to understand in a nutshell the overarching regional dynamics at play for the past ~100 years. Anyone who does wouldn't ask stupid questions such as "why don't the Arab states do more?" What is now the neo-imperialist West has long sought to maintain control of the Middle East, first through direct rule (i.e. full on imperialist) from the early-mid 19th century, and after WWII indirectly (neo-imperialist). At first, it primarily came down to the strategic location of Egypt in particular (Suez Canal) and the land routes from the Levant to India (Britain's crown jewel). Once vast reserves of oil, a resource like no other, were discovered throughout the Persian Gulf by the 20th century, the stakes increased exponentially. Subservient despotic regimes were systematically imposed, either directly (as was the case with the Shah in Iran) or indirectly (Saudi royal family) or bribed (King Hussein of Jordan) to quell Arab nationalism and prevent public opinion from becoming the driving force behind politics in the region. Within this larger framework, Israel is the neo-imperialist West's strategic foothold in region, a last bastion of sorts which provides a land point to deploy military power to subdue the rest of the region in case bribery stops working. Since 1979, only Iran has really revolted and broken out of this frame, but it can't really do much on its own other than use proxies to harass the other side, which doesn't come anywhere close to meaningfully alerting the balance of power in the region. Furthermore, even then, the fall of the Shah was more than adequately offset by the complete pacification of Egypt in 1979. The next real threat emerged in 2011, which again has largely been quashed. Public anger on the Arab streets is palpable, but so far the heavy-handedness of the Jordanian, Egyptian, Saudi regimes seems to be working in keeping it contained.

I think students around the globe will force change in a good way. I believe once the world sees what Israel is doing it will move to the side of sanity. You see when the American politicians are being paid to support Israel, or else, thats what they do, they're cowards, they don't care babies and entire families are being blown to bits in Gaza, because its more important to hang on to your status and money. The day will come when God intervenes, it wont end well for the demons in power around the world.

"The day will come when God intervene"

God probably has grown tired of his creations asking "him" to do everything for them as if he didn't give them Free Will and a Brain with Common Sense they are suppose to use. It's likely we're suppose to figure out the sadistic genocide of 14,000 children, and destroying the planet because of exploitation and the insatiable systematic greed of the obscenely wealthy- is not a good idea. And we won't learn anything, if "God" - whatever God may be, and who really knows what that is? - if "God" interferes - himself/herself/itself. It would seem, we're on our own - to learn this lesson - if it is a lesson (Maybe it isn't). But in the meanwhile, we probably should try to do something about genocide - and a bunch of cops dressed up in black beating up college kids all over the US and tying them up with plastic handcuffs. We should all learn - before these same cops turn into Israeli sadists who shoot the kids they tie up in handcuffs and then bury them in mass graves - like they are doing in Gaza.

Indeed. Americans could use an excuse "well I can't do anything physically since it's out there in Gaza". Well, now it's right here with your own police and hell knows what other enforcement. Frantically looking for another excuse...wait, here it is, God!

Who are the real terrorists here? You think zip-tying hospital personnel (in the hundreds) and then shooting them one by one, and burying them into mass graves is not terrorism as well?

You are righteous about defending Israel and yet the very obvious (to the rest of the world) IDF sadists you advocate for - are just as much terrorists, as any "terrorist" one could find in human history. Such as the Nazi terrorists one finds depicted in Spielberg's Schindler's List. You argue that you and the Israeli IDF are different. No you're not. You (and Spielberg) ought to be deeply ashamed of your defense of genocide and mass killings taking place right now in Gaza and the West Bank. You condemn terrorism but at the same time are supporting terrorism on an industrial scale - like the German Nazis did. You are an immoral, contemptible hypocrite. You and Steven Spielberg - moral cowards.

There are those who are in the "my side, right or wrong," camp. And there are those who read some actual history, and learn. They might even have to change their opinion if they wish to have their opinion fact-based. I would imagine almost every person, who has come to reject the Zionist line, had to do that. I welcome the day when you too, decide that "the truth shall set you free," and you will join us, and as Lennon said, "And the world will be as one," just as the human genome has shown that we are all 99.9% the same. We are literally killing each other for some difference in the 0.1%. How crazy is that? This species will not survive if we can't learn how to get past this chimera of difference.

The term Palindrome derives from the Greek palin dromo (“running back again”). Examples of word palindromes include “civic,” “madam,” “radar,” and “deified.” Numerical palindromes include sequences that read the same in reverse order (e.g., 1991), as well as those that can be read upside down and backward (e.g., 1961).The first known palindrome was written in Latin and dates back to Roman times, “sator arepo tenet opera rotas,” which may be translated as either, “The sower Arepo leads with his hand the plough,” or, “The sower Arepo holds the wheels with effort.” They were also found in ancient Sanskrit, as well as in Ancient Greek.

It can also refer to dates throughout history that significantly repeat.

I would like us all for a moment to concentrate on this pier being built as we speak.

In Bidens address he said very firmly NO US BOOTS ON THE GROUND.

How does one build a pier without boots on the ground?

IF there are Americans building and (supposedly) defending this pier who is to know what might happen? One bomb thrown into the mix and the wailing and crying for American lives will be enormous.

Why are they building this pier when the US could force other routes to be opened?

Is the Biden administration building this for the Israelis when they take over Gaza and Kushner's new condominiums are built?

Or is this a way to put Palestinians on ships to nowhere?

This looks like a VERY dangerous game to me.

It’s going to be a US military base.. that’s all the U.S. cares about. That way, the U.S. not only supplies Israel’s weapons and aid (& pay for its universal healthcare) but also be its police force.

Expand full comment

Maybe their plan is to build that pier with wet suits in the water instead of boots on the ground. But then, anything they say they're going to do or not do can easily be rescinded a week or less later when the opposite of what they originally claimed is deemed in our "national interest," which in this case means in Israel's best interest, Israel being the US's 51st state, which essentially dictates US foreign policy.

I agree. How can a pier be built without 'boots on the ground!' Does this pier float?

I have already seen images of bulldozers and other equipment making way for this PIER.

WHO are the contractors?

Dear Caitlin, It may sound incongruous and heartless on my part - in these horrific times of Palestinian suffering - but the brilliant way you use satire made me smile. Your weapons of justice are words.

"When cops are cracking skulls at Columbia University .... wouldn’t the cracking sound way worse if the president was being all crude and impolite about it? " I am smiling. "Trump....he is the second coming of Adolf Hitler". Sorry I am smiling again!

But Caitlin is deadly serious. She is pointing out the post-truth of America going insane and fascist. The guise of antisemitism is becoming dangerous and frightening. The focus on the plight of the people of Gaza is again shifted with the ferocity and brutality of the police on campus. ( Israeli trained police, I might add). In addition to the violence of the pro-Israeli crowds. And the zionist regime under cover of that darkness is carrying on its sinister agenda unhindered. It is a genocide in every sense of the word, going on for seven long months, though the eminent judges of the ICJ are still deliberating waiting ... for what?

Meanwhile in America feelings of the Jewish lobby, the ruling class, the oligarchs, the compliant media matter more than the lives of Palestinians.

Like Caitlin says ".... then we’ll focus on that to the exclusion of all else".
