"The west is still a savage and murderous civilization that hasn’t transcended its barbarity in the way it thinks it has."

For me, this is the key truth in your piece, Caitlin. I see the empty buildings, the shuttered storefronts in my working class neighborhood, occupied by rodents and roaches, while the homeless relocate from a street spot where large boulders have appeared to destroy the flat gravel site for their tents. I see depressed forlorn individuals in Native dress huddling in shade near the entrance of the health center that will provide them at least a modicum of care. The barbarity against these citizens screams at me every time I leave my house, slow murder transpiring on the streets around me, paralleling the rapid extinction of Palestinians --- and Afghanis, Libyans, Iraqis, Vietnamese, and all the others.

Any time I hear a liberal say "it's complicated" or that accursed word "nuanced" it's invariably some Squealer-like attempt to get me not to believe my own eyes and nose and ears.

Like when a human male, caught in the act of porking your best friend *and* your sister says "Honey, I can explain!"
