They start with PROPAGANDA.

When that starts losing its effect, they use CENSORSHIP.

Next they will move on to REPRESSION (physical, political, cultural, status-based, identity-based, career-based).

Then comes FINANCIAL/Banking-based cancellation (as observed during the Feb 2022 Canadian Truckers Freedom Convoy)

Then comes IMPRISONMENT and TERRORIST designations (as observed with Julian Assange, Edward Snowden, and so many others).

And when the EMPIRE gets DESPERATE, they do ALL of them at the SAME TIME. The Empire's tactics shows their desperation in trying to control the narrative - and their FEAR indicates of their failing at it.

I disagree with Gene Sharp's "non-violent" stance - as that is limiting. During a revolution, any/all methods must be tried. At certain times VIOLENCE is REQUIRED, at other times NON-VIOLENCE is required. To limit oneself to a subset of available strategies is to not use all the tools available and needed.

The Dems say the want to "protect the children," when laws protecting children are already in place. They say they want to censor "hate" speech, but not the "hate" speech they like. If Nikki Haley screams, "Finish them!" meaning the Palestinians and writes that on a US made bomb going to Israel, no one censors that. If someone said, "Too bad Hitler didn't finish the job," that person could eventually be in prison. See? Some hate speech o.k., some censored, even though BOTH are free speech. Stop the country from the fascist direction it's heading. Refuse to comply. Go, Caitlin and Tim!!!!

I keep telling family and friends censorship is happening even before the Dems get into office when they will crack down hard and cut the First Amendment out of the constitution. Then they'll make it law to have digital IDs and CBDCs and bank-ban when you want to buy something they don't like, certain books, podcasts, dissenting ideas. It happened to Melania Trump; she was debanked and censored, too. Look what's happening to Caitlin. It's all downhill from here. Voted Dem all my life. Can't now. Thank god for BRICS.

I don’t know. Honestly I don’t know. I suppose I’m a bit conflicted. I guess you would say that it’s ok for me sitting in my comfortable middle class home in a peaceful country, to make moral pronouncements. And you would be correct. It’s been some time since I wrote what I wrote and the death continues, and I’ve noticed that as the genocide continues my hostility towards violence has become less strident (and less relevant). I guess the person who said that violence must be an option for the oppressed to use was correct. And I was wrong.

Expand full comment

Here's my article [https://changchokaski.substack.com/p/can-violence-be-moral-frantz-fanon] explaining my views on the use of violence, and a more nuanced look on when violence could be appropriate AND necessary (especially in the context of Palestine).

Chang, apparently you didn't read through to the end, or maybe what he wrote made you so mad that you didn't entirely absorb what he said.

He compared many different revolutionary struggles and he found that nonviolent civil disobedience is more successful against your own oppressive government than violence. He said that violence only works well against a foreign invader (colonial power).

He didn't say that there would be no violence; in fact he warned his readers that violence would be used against them.

He said that this is war and the only difference was that we would be using civil disobedience as our weapon.

Please calm down and read it again.

I respect your comments and I admire your thinking skills.

When government and private corporations merge, it's called fascism. And this blatant fascism is becoming more and more apparent everyday in the West. Censorship and repression of dissent is the hallmark of fascism. And the repression can take many forms: surveillance, censorship, harassment, and eventually, torture and mass murder.

Expand full comment

Well said, imho. The US 'government', i.e. it's three branches, have been captured by corporations (MIC, Pharma, Banking, Big-Ag, AIPAC) a while back. It's these corporate conglomerates via their moneyed influence, using stooge public-facing, often moronic politicians that actually run the place. Kamala Harris AND Donald Trump are both the perfect representation: Neither is smart or wise (being kind here), but they are presented as the ONLY 'choices', the best a country of 350 millon has to offer. Makes you laugh, does it not?

Censorship is tightening in the West. A sign of desperation as the CIA has not quite figured out how to maintain the 'freedom of speech/democracy' fascade in the Internet age. Most here in the US are still blue-pilled, but the tide is turning. Desperate times for the Deep State and fascism. CIA controlled YouTube just deleted a bunch of channels that reached too many citizens, spreading truthful info that's at variance with Empire propaganda. End-stage fascism at work. Bad things will happen.

This is another reason why I moved farther over to my Substack page and my non-US hosted website. I am careful about Facebook and Instagram posts now so I use redirects that don't have the banned words in them. But my Substack page and website blog most certainly does. So far, so good. I haven't incurred any censorship from Substack and I see a lot of other people get away with so much more here on Substack than what I post. I have incurred censorship or shadow banning on other online publications, which is why I have stopped writing so much for them.

Censorship is getting out of hand in the west and there are not enough people who are aware of how bad it really is and for how long it has been going on. I don't see things changing anytime soon given the two candidates for the presidency. Is there anywhere safe from this tyranny anymore?

Expand full comment

The power of Caitlin's essay comes from the examples she gives of censorship. Let's talk about this every chance we get - giving examples. And given in the context of the human right to dissent and freedom of speech and assembly. Talk to the one sitting next to you on the bus this week. "You know what just happened with my post on Facebookz?...."

Expand full comment

It really does work. I approach strangers at every opportunity and strike up conversations and I can tell you definitely a lot of people are waking up. All you have to do is open the eyes of two people who will each hopefully open the eyes of two people. In this way we will win.

Expand full comment

The thing is whether those people indeed do wake up or fake it just to shake you off.

Westerners are brought up to be "polite" in personal interactions which in practice means - be hypocritical, keep your true emotions/opinions to yourself, do not reveal them lest you offend the other party. Even between acquaintances that's often the case, let alone complete strangers.

I'm not saying it's not worth a try, just that the interaction culture promotes disingenuousness.

We encountered similar censorship and narrative hegemony during Covid. We had to move to using symbols to communicate certain words, or use malapropism's instead of the actual word.

People might not be able to understand how a war on your mind actually functions, or what it looks like. You don't need guns and bombs anymore, you just need to control what people are allowed to say, allowed to think, and allowed to read. It all gets distilled down to 'conspiracy theorist' which hijacks any genuine conversation on the topic being suppressed.

Expand full comment

Like applying forbidden words, thoughts and information "sanctions" on our minds and capacity to communicate But it's too late. The masks have already come off and they are up against genuinely intelligent and infinitely creative people who already know too much.

I wondered if what finally pushed their fear buttons was talking about oil and resources, rather than staying safely on the spinning identity hamster wheels of religion, ethnicity, "terrorism", "democracy," "Trump", etc. etc.? Might there. be wisdom in strategically backing off, as in a chess game? Which is not even remotely "giving up" or "giving in." Just asking strategies....

Preserving communication is essential.

Narrative hegemony is exactly right. But I think this has been ongoing for thousands of years. From “in the beginning there was the word” and heresy to “in the beginning there was the Big Bang” and conspiracy theory, it’s all fiction spun by power to preserve itself and it always has been. The priesthood always knows; the peasants never do. But it’s always a lie, a very productive one for some and a ruinous one for most. Pyramids. Hierarchies. Empty. The all-seeing eye actually has cataracts and can’t see a damn thing. We’re sneaking up the pyramid, slowly but surely, rusty spoons in hand.
