Willful ignorance is not the absence of knowledge, but the refusal of knowledge. That refusal is complicity.

Outrage must now be the rarest of qualities because outrage spurs action. Indifference is the prevalent opposite, but it depends upon willful blindness, another form of complicity. The UK is awash with indifference, even to its galloping destruction.

The lies provide a convenient excuse for inaction.

By contrast, what can those who see through the lies do? It never is enough, it never could be enough, not even if the blood of every lamb were washed in the blood of every other lamb...

"grown adult with internet access". If we're assessing by physical age or other standard measures, then "grown adult" subsumes a lot of bodies in the West. But if we assess via accurate moral compasses, ability to sniff out lies and propaganda, and resistance to Fascist authoritarianism, I suggest that the population of "grown adults" shrinks markedly.

The best of our college campuses fledgling adults, many of the Jewish faith, were among the first to rise in opposition to the ongoing genocide. Joined by other students and institutions in a modest, peaceful demand of Boycot, Divest and Sanction, the "grown adults", led by Genocide Joe Biden and currently by the Obese Orange Wet Fart, responded with brutal, police state, crackdown tactics and cruelty. The courts are failing us and the future those students wanted is unattainable while criminals run the world.

No one will see me on this thread for a while, so John gets his way. Every time this happens, and I don't see that I precipitated it, it's completely disheartening that someone's perception of me is so vituperatively opposed that it goes on & on. Then. like now, I need a sabbatical. See you.

I was pointing it out to each of you, because it is so far off topic.

Thst's part of the problem, people are so easily sidetracked and this us mot the time for that. Why you decided this was meant for you only, I'm not sure, it was not. But there is an ongoing eho fight between two of you that gets in the way too often, which is why, I suppose, it gets moved to its own "continuing" spot.

I should let the good professor speak for himself, but he is referring to university, which increasingly resembles a sort of extended high school, teaching remedial subjects that should have been taught in high school but weren't.

Expand full comment
Vin LoPresti's avatar

Precisely. College freshmen, Grade 13, blunder in, expecting that doing what they did in grades 9 thru 12 will get 'em by like it did in 9 thru 12. Which boils down to memorizing what seem to them to be the choicest snippets of "information". But when they're told to expect to apply it -- given practice situations -- and are presented with a question such as: "You land on a foreign planet with the following environmental conditions . . . After a few days, which of the following feedback responses would you expect as compensation by your cardiovascular system?"

Critical thinking?

Then it's: "Gee Professor, thought my test was worth a lot more than a "D". And I muse, "What in the hell would cause you to think that?"

Hi Vin

My daughter was a straight-A high school student, National Honors Society, captain of the Quiz Bowl team, etc etc etc. yet she was totally unprepared for college. She had to drop two courses her first semester and graduated in four years only because she took summer classes.

One of the big problems as I see it was that she almost never had homework in high school. When I’d inquire about it she’d say, Oh they give us time in class to do it.

Shouldn’t that time have been spent with the teacher actually teaching?

I am absolutely dumbfounded by the massive amount of gaslighting that Israel produces constantly.

I'm convinced that there must be a huge propaganda budget, and that there are AI bots flooding the internet with lies. It's all much the same dozen or so themes.

Today's lies that struck me the most were

1. If HAMAS stopped and surrendered, Palestinians would no longer suffer.

2. A huge amount of concern for the prisoner in the tunnel, allegedly starved by HAMAS.

Everyday the same lies get repeated over and over in various threads.

Whilst attention has been focussed on Gaza, the IDF and the settlers have been busy in the West Bank, evicting Palestinians from their homes, and then destroying the buildings so they are uninhabitable.

There is hope that Israel has been watering the seeds of its own destruction with "leadership" under a corrupt and accomplished world-class liar- Netanyahu and his cohort of radical, extreme right-wing accomplices. This will not help the people of Gaza in time unless some event triggers a revolt with muscle. If Israel attacks Iran again, it may trigger a FAFO event. Such a response could also end catastrophically for the world. Increasingly, I see the possibility of the use of nuclear strikes by desperate losers without enough conventional weapons stockpiled to prosecute the wars they want.

President Trump and Netanyahu have something in common: they both are running from full accountability. If the court systems could adjudicate, and those things hidden could be revealed to the public, there is a possibility we could replace them with more competent leaders who believe in true negotiation with seasoned diplomats.

No, I don't see that happening, but the world is full of surprises.

In the meantime, keep Gaza and the photos taken there in the public eye. Speak out. Each time this is done, it will reach someone who somehow missed what is happening.

We have officially entered a deeper darker period where the rule of law is blatantly ignored. If any entity tried arresting the perpetrators of the Gaza genocide they will be physically destroyed. Even issuing arrest warrants have seen sanctions and threats leveled against the ICC.

Today most of the powerful nations are fully supporting this barbarity. Any attempt by other nations to stop it will mean WW3.
