Henry the K to the left of the Dems and their fraud squad. Now there's a frightening thought for anyone who was alive and fully conscious, and remembers the empire's ponderous foot on the neck of Central America in the early 1970s.

Nixon would be too liberal to get the nomination in today's Democratic Party.

Exactly, and the right is far to the right of Hitler at this point and the goal posts of political discourse continue to shift in that direction.

I had read Kissinger's comments and was shocked. Where did he get the idea that America cared about peace and stability in Europe?

If so, he'd have to believe South East Asians and Latino-Americans don't count in the eyes of God

Expand full comment

He definitely believes they don't count and thanks for keeping it real. Kissinger is a racist and that's why he's advocating for Russia.

Expand full comment

No, it is because he does not want to get nuked.

Expand full comment

You are absolutely pathetic in every way. Kissinger is a scum in perpetuity and he couldn't care less about getting nuked. He's 99 for Christ's sake. But he does care deeply about the superiority of the white race.

Not wanting to get in a fight with an enemy that is capable of fighting back and nuking us is clear evidence of racism.

At last someone connects the US war machine to the absolute violence of Hollywoodism and American venality. Oh yeah, Chris Hedges has been on that for years. a good article, but the title is salient and gruesome. Good work Caitlin.

So wait, other countries don't watch violence and play violent video games and they don't have mental illness and they don't take SSRIs or partake in Cannabis? This is what you are saying when you make this excuse for mass shootings. The Dems have this part right about the mass shootings. It's the guns, stupid. America is insane and many Americans are therefore insane and no one who is insane should have access to guns, especially military caliber weaponry.

I don't know much about them, but what about all the video games where shooting/killing things is what they're all about? Wouldn't this serve to desensitize people toward violence? It seems violence, although we are taught is wrong (bullying, fighting) has been what we have been swimming in for decades. War, media, gaming, movies.

I knew a shrink at UPMC, who'd done her thesis on this, when girls still had zippers up the back of their designer jeans, to attract attention, huddled over video games; in actual "Video Game Parlors" full of cranked-up kids, practicing for their drone flying outsourced defense gigs. Media suggested she was a fear mongering, anti 'Murikan commie, kill-joy.

You’d like this documentary, This Film Is Not Yet Rated. It’s about how Hollywood movies are ‘guided’ by the MPAA to promote violence to tweens, by allowing lots of violence, but limiting the consequences of violence, like blood and gore. And of course, sex is obscene, so none of that. Probably still the most egregious example of a Hollywood movie being dressed up propaganda for the US War department is The Green Berets.

John Wayne shamelessly gets up in front of a bunch of reporters on a Hollywood set that is supposed to be the jungle of Vietnam and explains the US government’s way they want the reporters to think about the war and how to report on it. And that’s the movie. It was 1968; protests against the war were ramping up and they wanted to keep going, to fight commies, which is basically ridiculous, since if people choose communism or socialism, that’s still democracy.

It’s basically a template for how the military now ‘embeds’ reporters with certain units, so they seem to be close to the action, but its the action the military wants them to see. This is how they shape the narrative that they have used to justify every war since then. Ukraine is no exception. Who will profit by this war? Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. Who will lose? Ukraine, Russia and anyone else who gets involved, including us.

Oh, Caitlin, how I loved reading this rant. I used to write something I called rant poetry, pouring all my pain into some lines, and I can feel your sincere, raw humanity in this piece better than in your other also excellent work. Across the globe I send you the platonic love and hugs from a kindred spirit. 👍🏻 👊🏻

It’s Not like Democrat Politicians care about the Life of the Innocent. Hell, they are trying to depopulate the world! It’s just their socialist and fascist friends are worried they can’t control us until guns are illegal.

Why do we hate Russia and China?

Is that more cost effective?

The sixties had to be killed cold dead.

Long ago.

The whole possibility of peace and love means we can't fuel war and conflict.

That had to be cancelled first .

I agree in principle, but do you realize that 32% of Americans own a gun, admit to it that is, and 44% admit to having a gun in the household: that's almost 150 million people! that's what I refer to when I say the society itself is sick - and in a peculiar brain-washed way: they seem perfectly normal because well, according to the definition of normal, they are! Yet, they can make a "stand your ground" law that makes murder lawful. Smarter or more aware Americans and the rest of the world have to go after the NRA, without the approval of which no one gets elected.

Doris, take note who has hearted your post. You and I have disagreed and you have insulted me, but I'm am thick-skinned enough to shrug that off and commend you when you make an agreeable statement of fact which your comment here is.

Also note that all the so-called anti-war leftists who comment here have not hearted your comment. Curious that, wouldn't you say? How could any true anti-war lefty not heart your post? I would submit it is because no one who comments here or at any of these contrarian venues (Taibbi and Greenwald for example) is a true lefty and in fact if they appear to be a lefty they are in fact poseurs and provocateurs and that's why I am the only one to heart your excellent comment.

"We are all marinating in the US-centralized empire: its influence, its propaganda, its artificially manufactured culture, its ways of thinking. We're so immersed in it we can't see it. It's like water for fish to us. So we won't see any research into its influence on the collective psyche."

The concept is called "hegemony" and we find it hard to imagine things any other way.

By virtue of the quoted statement, Feral, you are doing exactly what the empire requires of you since you are so immersed in it you can't see it. As for me, well, I do not consider myself part of this mythical "we," so I'm not immersed in it and therefore I can see it and so many other things.

Kissinger simply wants to turn the cock back to before Russia's "special operation," now that it's obvious that his ilk's ploy to re-colonize Russia has not only failed but also backfired on their sphere of influence. he dresses it up as "concern for europe and humanity" for the global consumption while addressing the neoliberal cabal at WEF. these ghouls fooled Russia once. putin is no fool.

“Violence is not new to America. White men of European stock seized the lands of indigenous Indians with a ferocity which endured until our own times. The institution of slavery shaped the character of the nation and leaves its mark everywhere. Countless “local” wars were mounted throughout the twentieth century to protect commercial interests abroad. Finally, the United States emerged at Hiroshima as the arbiter of world affairs and self-appointed policeman of the globe.”

As an America’s it’s painful to listen to the criticism when I’ve spent most of my life railing against our governments incompetence and reckless wars. My experience has been Americans have been much to busy enjoying their lives while ignoring the obvious corruption and lies. If Russia placed missiles in Mexico what would Joe do or any President for that matter. The biggest hypocrite of them all and evil too is currently accelerating the destruction of the empire so you my not have long before your essay on the fall of the West is published.
