It’s about how Hollywood movies are ‘guided’ by the MPAA to promote violence to tweens, by allowing lots of violence, but limiting the consequences of violence, like blood and gore. And of course, sex is obscene, so none of that. Probably still the most egregious example of a Hollywood movie being dressed up propaganda for the US War department is The Green Berets.
John Wayne shamelessly gets up in front of a bunch of reporters on a Hollywood set that is supposed to be the jungle of Vietnam and explains the US government’s way they want the reporters to think about the war and how to report on it. And that’s the movie. It was 1968; protests against the war were ramping up and they wanted to keep going, to fight commies, which is basically ridiculous, since if people choose communism or socialism, that’s still democracy.
It’s basically a template for how the military now ‘embeds’ reporters with certain units, so they seem to be close to the action, but its the action the military wants them to see. This is how they shape the narrative that they have used to justify every war since then. Ukraine is no exception. Who will profit by this war? Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. Who will lose? Ukraine, Russia and anyone else who gets involved, including us.
