The main problem in the U.S. is the unshakable belief of ordinary Americans that the benefits of the "rule of the elite" will "trickle down" to everyone. I never imagined that in my lifetime I would casually scroll past videos of children being shot in the head, people collapsing lifeless in the street, entire families erased in seconds, images of torture, children with entrails hanging from walls...while the rest of the world continues on as if this is normal and their leadership indicts those who dare to notice!

I agree with this observation, but I would only add that I began to perceive this happening 25 years ago, after 9/11. And I would argue that that event is the key to all that has followed.

I want to believe this, but at least in the US where I live, most people give nary a thought to their country's continual butchery around the world, largely, I believe, due to propaganda Americans experience from birth about the fundamental goodness of the US project and its largely white leadership. I have told anybody within earshot for at least twenty years that until an actual, sustained shooting war occurs inside the borders of the United States, Americans will blithely go about their day, relatively unconcerned with the absolute depths of horror that war brings. The biggest problem I see is that the genocide really doesn't hurt most people at all, not even psychologically. I wouldn’t go quite that far with the fraud accusation re. the Constitution or the Founders, though I totally get the sentiment. No question that the document, and its authors, were flawed in the attempt to get beyond rule by monarchs or clergy, but they did provide a template for progress on that front. No doubt in my mind that the majority would be appalled at the corporate coup that has taken place, and had they had a crystal ball, would have provided more specific guardrails on the influence of monied interests on governance.
Agree that, ultimately, the process was an ode to capitalism.
