We are wired to favour hierarchy… especially when we are in our survival brain centers much of the time. From getting sweaty palmed when meeting a powerful person to Game of Thrones to childhood fairytales… domination and subservience are inextricably linked.
We pretend, we rationalize, saying it’s simply “leaders and followers”.
How many millions have voluntarily died defending their ‘leader’?
If millions of Americans reverantly watch the royal funeral and the Coronation of King Chuck, won't that actually be the greatest threat to American democracy since the War of 1812?
When ranking threats to American democracy, dead kings are somewhat down the list, which is a long one, certainly behind our two farcical corporate-owned parties.
I was 100% with Caitlin until I encountered "white supremacist thieves." Aren't "royalist thieves" or "aristocratic thieves" bad enough? I dispute the classification of myself as a "thief," and surely the people who died in the Triangle Shirtwaist fire did not benefit from "white privilege," not to mention the privileged life Barack Obama was born to, nor the African warlords who sold slaves to European merchants including a handful of Jews. Stop blaming all white individuals for the sins of a minority of wealthy white individuals who have lorded it over the oppressed of all races including their own race for five hundred years.
She also thinks climate change is an existential threat driven by people. Lots of good stuff on this blog mixed with the occasional basic leftist meme. Every fashionable thought is wrong, so this is easy enough to filter.
She's getting there. I like her most when she consistently opposes imperialism, but agree she's not perfect. Many do not yet understand that the entire federal government from State and Defense to Health and Human Services is irredeemably corrupt.
English monarchy is the most bizarre thing ever.....in this day and age. But, in traveling to Great Britain, I was surprised at how many people still embrace them.
In world filled with people who believe that the blood resulting from a Jewish carpenter's suicide has the power to wash away the horrible sin of having been born by way of copulation, and that illiterate prophets ascend to heaven on winged horses, belief in a real live king should be no great stretch.
I was born the same year as old Charlie. After working in several different professions for 66 of those years, I can't imagine inheriting the position of stray dog-catcher, much less "enlightened" monarch. But then, I suppose Charlie wouldn't be nearly as burned out as me, given that his 73 years of societal contributions wouldn't amount to a hill of dog doo.
Maybe you should learn to read --- and think beyond your obviously hopelessly indoctrinated brain. I said nothing about the queen. So go learn the meaning of nonsequitur. My life was dedicated to classrooms in which I helped students think critically about complex science, so I actually feel quite good about the scads of ex-students, now friends, who love me for unleashing their cognition, a process that you need desperately. Unfortunately, your inability to see your own brainwashing makes that unlikely. As to another of my comments you take issue with, I need say no more.
hilarious indeed, all the more because the idea of "king" makes us realize that we have never really taken the "queen" as real and in any serious manner either. but these leeches are real, and hopefully this occasion becomes a much needed kick in our collective lazy head.

The answer is countless millions and giving your life voluntarily will be futile to the nth degree under this clown.

Unfortunately for you, you offer "reverence" to an undeserving entity: The British Monarchy. Ridiculous. But you do you.
In world filled with people who believe that the blood resulting from a Jewish carpenter's suicide has the power to wash away the horrible sin of having been born by way of copulation, and that illiterate prophets ascend to heaven on winged horses, belief in a real live king should be no great stretch.
It would be truly heartbreaking if Piers Morgan popped off first.
And Your Highness will become Your Unbearableness.
