Culture wars and wedge issues are perfect to distract humans from the issues that the Empire actually cares about, keeping the plutocrats happy and keeping the wars well stoked.

There are those humans who are content with this, if humanity goes up in a mushroom cloud, or if they all disappear into a global totalitarian dystopia resembling 1984, or just an oligarchy resembling Brazil under the Colonels but without the more pleasant aspects, at least we have pronouns.

PRONOUNS, humans! PRONOUNS!

Keep in mind that none of this overeducated navel-gazing and status-seeking outrage, the endless struggle sessions over proper descriptors (do we call a person paralyzed from the neck down a "quadriplegic" or "a person with quadriplegia"?), the diversity committees that turn out to be jobs programs for grievance studies grads, the Wokemon matchups pitting a queer math-challenged Native American versus a schizophrenic mixed race male who *personally identifies* as a three-headed lesbian, none of this stuff affwxts the stupid wars or changes the way the economic pie is sliced.

So these posts, deleted by the time I got here, are from this Han.

In another thread, Han took my Substack handle literally--that's getting to be a lot of "literallys"--and then immediately demonstrated what it's mocking by calling me a fascist.

(Han's a funny one. I feel sorry for it, but what can we do?)

nosey parker's avatar

We've all been isolated for several years and I suspect Han needs interaction. but if I post a response to a substack I put some thought into it, try not to waste other people's time, and appreciate some modicum of the same from others. Last time I posted here Han lit into me and my email was attacked. Coincidence? Maybe. It's tiresome. And then when I went on this substack the next day I found a lot of people had received emails (as I had) that pretended to be from Caitlin but weren't which is probably why I had to confirm my identity before I could post here. This isn't the only substack this has happened at but a lot more people were targeted here than anywhere else. I'm spending too much time online as it is. I'm happy to talk to anyone of any age, but Gen Zers need to understand that they might be seeing a smaller portion of the big picture than people who have more experience with life. They have valuable insight BECAUSE of their age. But their lack of general knowledge irritates and depresses me. It's not their fault; I get it. They also tend to lack common courtesy in talking to strangers. Something destructive happened online in the 1980's so it started with Gen X (or whoever immediately followed the Baby Boomers) and it's been getting worse. Again, understandable given the mess the world has been in their entire lives. But life really is short. And there's a lot I need to do in a day.

As for Caitlin's essay, I do think that some issues that are definite distractions are also essential to deal with right now. The transgender issue, in particular, is very disturbing and I think is a continuation of an attempt to lessen our population world-wide. It is the responsibility of older people to watch out for the young and there appears to be a concerted attempt to sterilize as many people in the younger generations as possible, whether through the COVID vaccine which they knew from the start was going to harm significant numbers, or through removing reproductive organs. If we do not understand this and take a live and let live attitude, the Boomers will probably be okay financially if they tighten their belts a lot but the next generation will have a harder time in their 60's and beyond because there will be fewer workers to fund their retirement. And each successive generation will suffer even more. And a society cannot survive without younger generations, no matter what the billionaires think. This is not rocket science. World-wide infertility is alarmingly high. Besides which sterilizing the young (or anyone) is criminal.

At the recent WPATH conference they apparently put a lot of energy into "transableism"--removing body parts for people who think they should have been born handicapped. They are still resisting "transracialism" which is really disturbing. Race has no biological reality. But then I guess gender doesn't either.

"Draw attention to how disgusting what they’re doing is. Draw attention to how deeply evil this behavior is."

This is what everyone needs to do 24/7, 365 days a year. I do it, and I get comments like, "You're so negative," or "Aren't you being judgmental?" But it's amazing that pointing out the evil does start to sink in little by little. The next time you meet that person you pointed out how inhumane and evil endless wars for oil are, don't be surprised if they casually mention something like, "They're just raising prices because these greedy bastards can't stop their endless wars." You do get through to their subconscious with your repetitiveness of pointing out reality. They won't know it, but they'll have begun seeing the evil, disgusting things going on in the world all on their own. And maybe they'll come to a point where they'll want to change things, too, and join in your protest, direct action or open act of rebellion. One more fighting against the corrupt system. And then they'll make another one...and another one... and so on and so on.

From the United States Bankers’ Magazine of 1892: “We must proceed with caution, and guard well every move made, for the lower orders of people are already showing signs of restless commotions. Prudence will, therefore, dictate a policy of apparently yielding to the popular will until all of our plans are so far consummated that we can declare our designs without fear of organised resistance. The Farmers’ Alliance and the Knights of Labour organisations in the United States should be carefully watched by our trusted men, and we must take immediate steps to control these organisations in our interests or disrupt them. The coming Omaha Convention, to be held July 4th, our men must attend and direct its movements, or else there will be set on foot such antagonism to our designs as may require force to overcome. This, at the present time, would be premature. We are not yet ready for such a crisis. Capital must protect itself in every possible manner through combination and legislation. The courts must be called to our aid. Debts must be collected, bonds and mortgages foreclosed as rapidly as possible. Where, through a process of law, the common people have lost their homes, they will be more tractable and easily governed through the influence of the strong arm of government, applied by central power of imperial wealth, under the control of leading financiers. The truth is well known among our principal men now engaged in forming an imperialism of capital to govern the world. While they are doing this the people must be kept in a condition of political antagonism. The question of tariff reform must be urged through the organisation known as the Democratic Party, and the question of protection and reciprocity must be forced to view through the Republican Party. By thus dividing the voters we can get them to expend their energies in fighting over questions of no importance to us, except as teachers to lead the common herd. Thus by discreet actions we can secure all that has so generously planned and successfully accomplished.”

What a great example of the unabashed capitalist's point of view. I guess they didn't have to worry about statements like this being turned around and used against them in 1892--how many populists at the time read the US Bankers' Magazine?

Now, they're usually, not always, a bit more circumspect, preferring to talk about "freedom" and "democracy" as opposed to openly ballyhooing the accumulation of vast amounts of capital by the few at the expense of the many.

It's not just "left and right", or however many political ones, that work to divide. The government itself is busy in keeping the population under control. Yesterday's Kim Iversen interview with David Bell was quite informative. Starting at around 47:28 here

https://rumble.com/v34ioet-rfk-jr-declines-debate-over-israel-the-who-is-leading-us-towards-internatio.html

David says "most English-speaking countries now, call themselves democracies, they have attached to the higher levels of government or cabinets these powerful psychology groups ... these groups are there to manipulate people and to ... install fear even when it's irrational ... "

That top-down command of emotion is basically what "civilization" is, and this festival of misrule where everyone gets to play Supreme Emoter for fifteen minutes is basically what "social democracy" is. Even the notoriously classist Pacific Northwest Indian tribes manufactured unnecessary emotional influences, certainly when their classes saw their society's culture and aesthetics in crisis. For example, Graeber:

>For people living in such a bounteous environment, the Kwakiutl seemed to place a peculiar emphasis on hunger. The spiritual beings that populated the Kwakwala cosmos, as Stanley Walens (1981) has emphasized, were creatures driven primarily by their ravenous appetites—spirits, animals, and humans all endlessly consuming one another. Ritual involved constant creation of the experience of hunger: as Walens notes, not only was self-control and self-denial at table considered a crucial mark of noble status, but rather than being moments of collective indulgence, feasts were almost always solemn affairs at which the portions served were unsatisfyingly small—and nobles were not even supposed to finish their portions. Everything was happening as if the system was meant to create a feeling of deprivation where none really needed to exist. The most reasonable place to look for an explanation, it seems to me, is in the existence among the Kwakiutl of something very much like a class system.

“….One of the great challenges faced by westerners who oppose the political status quo today is the way the narrative managers of both mainstream factions continuously divert all political energy away from issues….”

However you cannot fight the framework while operating within the framework, and even validating it.

“Westerners”? Well you know the very concept that there is a west” - and by implication surrounded by a “jungle” - is THE original culture war promoted by the empire. Why? To provide cover for capitalist imperialism and exploitation.

You will never break the shackles of the empire while validating it and promoting its original mirage as real.
