They're not journalists, they're just stenographers at this point.

They fancy themselves great science-fiction world-builders like Slartibartfast.

John Kelly's avatar

I'm afraid it is much worse than that. Being a stenographer is a legitimate job. These people, on the other hand, are lapdogs and presstitutes.

AJF's avatar

Exactly...and have been for quite some time.

Our intel agencies never lie. Well, except about the Kennedy assassinations, trafficking drugs and guns, the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, who really did 911, the destruction of Nordstream and a few other things.

Good people. Take them at their word.

Outsider's avatar

When have they ever told the truth? Take it from former CIA directors Mike Pompeo, who laughed as he joked (not funny) that the CIA lies, cheats, and steals.

It's a system issue, not a partisan issue. Another self-righteous purge of one or the other religious sports team will leave the system in even better form to keep screwing us.

Long live the CIA! As long as CIA is there, your eastern imperialists will never rule the world with your reactionary dictatorships.

How else is the #1 death cult on planet earth going to maintain its power? We must support the most powerful and dangerous terrorist outfit the world has ever seen so that dastardly Putin stays our from under our beds! It's a scary world out there! Be afraid!

Any "journalist" who attempts to name a US intelligence official is going to run foul of the same law as Julian Assange.

The narrative machines across our corrupt society have become so entrenched, they're all many know, both the victims and the sycophant functionaries. As easy to believe them incapable of reasoning outside of it, as deliberately duplicitous. They can justify the censorship of any dissonant suggestion with unexamined reactionary self-righteousness and amplify the most unlikely lie without a thought, assuring the approval of their paymasters. And any who confront their hypocrisy, are the pariah in this upside-down, fatally flawed horror show. #DirectAction #EssentialNeeds #TrustedCommunities and get there is no reason to believe the machine will change course significantly. The steering is being done by unaddressed, inherent, human irrationality, unfettered by any effective, timely countering process and we're undergoing empire collapse acceleration, filtered by endless denial.

Wow. You hit the nail on the head.

Huxley and Orwell warned us of these developments and now Western Liberals feign surprise.

It really is pathetic.

I am guessing that we were all supposed to conflate "missile made by Russia" with "missile fired by Russia". Since the media has been carefully spooning out utter crap to us for so long, they had no reason to think this would not create a frenzy of nuke-mongering.

T. Paine's avatar

All our media sources are staffed by morons incapable of even recognizing a liar who just told them 2+2=100 as long as they work for a government agency. None of this is new, What’s different is the proliferation of data collection and storage, even the MSM liars data is saved giving us an opportunity to call them out.

The Revolution Continues's avatar

This is VERY backwards and it MUST END NOW. Amen to that!

Forty years ago, we had all sorts of double-checks and verification procedures in place in a newsroom. If there wasn't a second source, you didn't print the story until there was one. The money the propagandists are pumping into the mainstream media outlets must be enough to put even the most sensitive editor's conscience to sleep.

Susan Mercurio's avatar

They don't need to pump money into the press (well, they do it anyway), they put their goons openly in media positions.

Hmmm, maybe someone should investigate Editor #2: at which agency did she work before she came to the WaPo?

On the other hand, the Red Scare was shown up for what it was when a reporter talked his bosses into putting a camera in Joe McCarthy's Senate Anti-American Committee. When the people of the United States actually saw what was going on there, the whole house of cards came down.

I totally agree that the Red Scare was caused by the backlash of the business interests against the Communist and Socialist parties in the US because those parties were the successful organizers of the labor movement.

But I think you're making a mistake to dismiss McCarthy as having "15 minutes of fame" considering that his conflation of socialism/communism with totalitarian/fascist government still affects Americans to this day.

Also, I lived through the McCarthyite scare, and it was nothing to dismiss. You weren't there.

Believing a government, any government, without fact checking is an act of ignorance and complicity in the propaganda machine. No government exists that will not deceive for their own purpose. Thanks for reporting on the deceit of the Empire.

Sorry for my pessimism, but I don't see anything changing for the better. These so-called journalists can get away with it because there are millions who are structurally incapable of critical thinking and will swallow anything they're fed. They parrot the parrots.

Rule of thumb should be NEVER assume US intelligence officer, reporter, bureau, is right, and check well before accepting or repeating information. You should never assume anyone/source is right, but American intelligence? Any responsible person would have to be comatose to accept that on its face.

Even in their partial retraction they said it was a Russian Missile. Still putting the blame on Russia in their readers minds.

Zelensky was pushing for a nuclear war, even after nato, biden etc said it was an accident.

Outsider's avatar

Was it an accident or did Ukraine do it on purpose?

technocrats and their stenographers behind power I think were nailed by Joseph Conrad a while back:

"…this man entrusted with so much arbitrary power must have believed what he said or else he could not have gone on bearing the responsibility."

It makes it easier for those working in the machine to be true believers, or to convince themselves that they are agents of truth and the 'right side.' This is no excuse, but it is my attempt to psychologically figure out how they are able to keep going and justify their work.

Reminds me of the Stanley Milgram experiments in 1962 at Yale, demonstrating to what extent people will follow the orders of anyone who apparently is in a position of authority. They had a supposed "electric shock generator" that would shock a participant if they gave the wrong answer, and the shocks became increasingly worse until they were supposedly quite dangerous to the subject being shocked. It was all fake - i.e. the subject being shocked was an actor - but the person doing the shocking thought it was actually taking place.

Many participants shocked others at the highest levels just because they were told to do so by someone in a white lab coat.
