We are watching a terrible reality show of elite circle jerking. May the odds be ever in your favor

"An honest Met Gala dress would have a corset made from the bones of Yemeni children, draped with a cloth of stolen gold and lithium spun by the tiny hands of child slaves, with a full-length train that leached oil and blood wherever it went." Hunger games indeed.

It's sentences like this that I am especially fond of in Caitlin Johnsone's writing.

> An honest Met Gala dress would have a corset made from the bones of Yemeni children, draped with a cloth of stolen gold and lithium spun by the tiny hands of child slaves, with a full-length train that leached oil and blood wherever it went.

This atheist sometimes also feels the benefit of a sermon.

Yes--that's the sentence I copied into my diary. It will be on my blog this evening.

Empathy and self-reflection are considered wasteful, treasonous acts by the predator class. They prove it on the daily. Trevor Noah, for all his apparent charm, is a predator liaison who dutifully provides a saccharine coating to the naked elitism on display. The old enemies of peace, as FDR named them, seem to be stronger than ever - except that more and more of us are now able to plainly see the rot.

It’s unfortunate because i hoped he’d take on Stewarts mantle as a stronger voice against media bias toward the establishment. I think people who don’t grow up here initially take American politics at face value, instead of reading the rot from within accurately through the facade of earnestness.

he wasn't picked for the job because of his mantle as a strong voice. the opposite is true. no master likes a slave with a strong voice against the master.

Here in fire-ravaged NM, I watch the purple haze collect in the northern sky accompanied by the death-crackle of my beloved ancient junipers and the muffled cries of desert reptiles and mammals as they cook inside their skins. Simultaneously, I witness this grotesque sum of blood-money paid to Lockheed, Raytheon et al., and the photos of Hillary preening while the biosphere is screaming. And in the throes of this insanity, my overwhelming impulse is to vomit condemnatory hellfire on my country from a psychological place mirroring Robert Oppenheimer's pronouncement, "I am become death, the destroyer of worlds."

Whoa that’s some powerful imagery. And it’s terrifying because I felt the same when the Santa Cruz mountains were on fire and Newsom had only drafted legislation protecting PGE profits as a response. Why is the addressing of real and pressing problems constantly pushed into the fringe, while fashion and celebrity gossip are displayed front and center? It’s reminiscent of the societal circumstances that led to the French Revolution. Let them eat our extravagant social media posts, says Hillary.

With my sick lungs I'm hoping the smoke doesn't get down to Albuquerque, NM, where I dwell. Back in '11, I think, the smoke from the fires out west was so bad I had to turn my cooler off for a day when it was over 90F. Saw an article this AM denying CO2 is a problem. Disneyland indeed! Peace

Medieval courtiers also dressed nice and were treated well by the rulers, at least as long as they praised their masters.

The more extreme the elites get, the more focused the average person becomes to this parade of abnormal power. Like the Academy Awards, they probably felt that this was just another nice normal evening. The rest of us got another installment of the ever-evolving freak show.

It’s simplistic and naive to think Snowden released documents showing government lies for profit. Given his placement prior to whistleblowing, he was poised to profit far more from being a lifelong spook. Some people are still driven primarily by ethics and they will always be persecuted by those who are not driven so, as integrity exposes their lack of it.

Noah is not talking about holding US and Western power to account. And freedom generally as interpreted by US standards is the freedom to choose not to buy health insurance you can't possibly afford, to go hungry, to get into debt over your head just to get an education, struggle for years and then find you can't get a job that will cover your debts and allow you to live as well - a strange ultimatum: freedom to die in stupid wars of aggression and the freedom of your press to pander to the power of your own authorities, now in a fatal game of blindman's bluff where you antagonize a powerful and wounded bear, insult and frustrate it at every opportunity, and dare it not to lunge with tooth and claw. And being further impoverished by the cost of this misguided misadventure. Well, good luck with that, Noah.

Trevor Noah is a middling comic of middling intellect who fits the identity checklist. Like Seth Myers and Colbert, he can speak with full sincerity because he's too ignorant and captured to know better.

Caitlin's cognitive dissonance here is breathtaking..

"n honest Met Gala dress would have a corset made from the bones of Yemeni children, draped with a cloth of stolen gold and lithium spun by the tiny hands of child slaves,"

Then literally two sentences later..."While American women appear to be on the precipice of losing their reproductive sovereignty."

60 million children murdered in the womb...eh, women's rights and stuff.

Hillary clinton wearing a gown made by child slaves. HOW DARE SHE!

But I actually don't blame women. I blame the men who got the women pregnant and left them high and dry. Keep it in your pants until you're ready to care for that Divine Spark!

Red seems an appropriate color for Hillary's dress... Drenched in the blood of the victims from a former Sec. of State who cackled and proudly announced, "We came. We bombed. He died." The American dystopia is growing ever more surreal by the day. Beam me up, Scotty.
