No one should ever have so much wealth that they can manipulate the fate of entire nations, and yet it is SOP in the land of the free:
Ten Ways Billionaires Who Hate You Are Manipulating You Right Now by @thewisewolf
1) The first manipulation is the illusion of choice. You think you have two parties representing different visions for America but both parties are funded by the same billionaires, vote for the same surveillance bills, approve the same defense budgets, and serve the same corporate interests. The choice you are given is which color tie the puppet wears, not who controls the strings.
2) The second manipulation is emotional hijacking. The news does not inform you, it activates you. Every story is framed to trigger fear or anger or disgust because those emotions bypass your rational thinking and make you easier to control. You are not watching journalism. You are being subjected to psychological operations designed to keep you in a constant state of agitation.
3) The third manipulation is tribal sorting. The algorithm learns what makes you angry and feeds you more of it until your entire worldview is shaped by outrage at the other side. You are sorted into a tribe not because you chose it but because keeping you tribal keeps you predictable and profitable.
4) The fourth manipulation is false scarcity. You are told resources are limited and the other tribe is taking what belongs to you. Immigrants are stealing your jobs. Welfare recipients are draining your taxes. The other party is destroying your healthcare. Meanwhile the billionaire class has more wealth than any humans in history and could solve most of these problems tomorrow if they wanted to.
5) The fifth manipulation is memory holing. Stories that threaten powerful interests get buried or forgotten within days. Exposed crimes result in no consequences. Historical context that would help you understand the present is never taught. You are kept in a perpetual present with no past to learn from and no future to plan for.
6) The sixth manipulation is controlled opposition. The voices you think are fighting for you are often funded by the same interests they pretend to oppose. The outrage merchant on your side of the aisle is playing a character designed to keep you engaged and angry and tuned in while nothing ever actually changes.
7) The seventh manipulation is the Overton window. The range of acceptable opinion is artificially narrowed so that anything outside it seems extreme. Ideas that were mainstream fifty years ago are now treated as radical. Ideas that serve elite interests are treated as moderate common sense. You are not choosing your beliefs from the full range of human thought. You are choosing from a menu they wrote.
8) The eighth manipulation is learned helplessness. You are shown so many problems with no solutions that you eventually give up and accept that nothing can change. This is intentional. A population that believes resistance is futile does not resist. They scroll and complain and feel superior for understanding how bad things are while doing absolutely nothing about it.
9) The ninth manipulation is identity capture. Your political affiliation becomes your identity, and any attack on your party feels like an attack on you personally. This makes you defend politicians and policies that harm you because admitting they are wrong would mean admitting you were wrong, and your ego will not allow that.
10) The tenth manipulation is the most insidious of all: you are manipulated into believing you are too smart to be manipulated. Every person reading this thinks the manipulations I described apply to other people, the stupid people, the brainwashed people on the other side. That certainty is itself a manipulation. The moment you believe you are immune is the moment you become most vulnerable
If anyone can afford to hand a ^donation^ of $100,000,000 to get the puppet they want to be their frontman/woman into power should be audited, by an outside company, because anyone who can do that on a regular basis is definitely not being taxed nearly enough. One hundred million could save dozens lives, could house dozens of homeless, could turn a city into using clean energy and cut pollution immensely. Could stop huge bills for hospital treatments. But, no, they give it for a man whose morals are so low they could wear a top hat and still walk under a flea's belly without it noticing.
Where do they get so much money from? Where did it come from in the first place? Who left it to them? Did they know what would be done with that money? Are they spinning in their graves at the uses their money is being put to? Or was it all made from corrupt dealings in the first place?
The US of A is not the land of the free, it is the land where money talks and ethics died along with the few good men who had a vision, until along came the conmen/women who spoke the creed that greed was good, but only for them, they rest of you are meant to scrape, crawl and beg for crumbs whileyhe corrupt live the extremely high life through keeping you down and profiting from the work YOU do that keeps them wealthy while doing nothing but interfering in governments for the fun of it because they have too much time on their jewel encrusted hands.
That's defanging demorialization talking ennui, they strive hard to make us feel this way, that way we won't bother fighting back or trying to save what we have which is far and away better than what they have in store for us.
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
I think plutocracy risks normalizing it or granting it a shield of historical acceptability. It’s pathocracy: rule by pathological individuals. That’s the whole of the problem.
Agree. Is there any government on earth that isn't run by wealth influencing it? Good and bad governments of all the different systems are corrupt. Human nature gravitates to power and wealth.
Actually, Realty Seeker, both Russia and China have democratic socialism that run their governments, with China having its own Chinese characteristics. In both countries, citizens..rich or poor...PAY THEIR TAXES. I'd rather live in St. Petersburg (most beautiful city in the world, very clean, and I've been to over 30 countries) or Chongqing (biggest city in the world, 31+ billion people, with ZERO pollution, no gas stations, and not one overweight person), than anywhere else on the planet. My once wonderful city, Portland, OR. is becoming harder to live in by the passing of each day.
Russia and China do not have democratic socialism. Russia is essentially a dictatorship with a strong system of stolen wealth within the oligarchy. The people do not benefit from this system in any shared way. China is a communist state with some recent capitalism, "Chinese characteristics." Again, the Chinese Communist Party is corrupt with a disproportionate amount of wealth. The vast majority of its population does not benefit significantly, though some improvements have been made. I have never seen anything about the reality of who pays their taxes in Russia or China, so I have no comment.
So sorry about Portland, OR. The inmates have taken over the asylum and the Feds are making a mess of things. I'm glad you have found two oasis cities within two countries whose systems you are mistaken about. PS: Russia is in the midst of an aggressive, deadly imperialist war. China is adding/opening coal power plants every week or two. Neither country is high on free speech and political differences. Both meddle in various parts of the world, similar to the US.
Sure. The city government of Salem, Oregon. Though the more people the government ostensibly represents the more it tends to escape the influence of the populace.
When I was a kid in the USA of 1960's labor was strong. They still are but they have chosen daffy and corrupt leaders so they are being directed away from their self interests.
Not familiar. Left, moderate, or right? Urban, suburban, rural? How large is the population? Lots of problems in the city (budget, homeless, etc.) or well run?
Corrupt labor leadership another example of the problem, IMO.
No. It really is plutocracy. Not calling it out means we don't have to address the wealth inequality and the differing access to ownership to land, resources and industry (all monopolized by billionaries). So no, plutocracy isn't "socially acceptable" and to say they are just "sick people" that are "wrong in the head" is an excuse not to act on systemic issues (it always is).
Just use pathocracy. It identifies the problem better than, “ oh, it’s just rich people doing what they do, ya know? Good ole rascally rich people…” Pathocracy: know the word. If society could handle pathologics, they wouldn’t be running the world right now.
It is horrible and infuriating that Israeli billionaires or any other billionaires have so much control over the US Empire. Even worse are all the other governments that tow the line and go along with the US and Israel because they either want to stay rich or they want to maintain power or they are just afraid of what those lunatics will do if anyone resists. We all need ot resist, but clearly, it is difficult to know just how to do that. At least, hopefully, we will all keep trying.
Unfortunately wealth took the place of kindness and ethics, and along came these ^gurus^ telling us they could show us how to become wealthy, and that wealth is good. What happened then was people found themselves working longer hours, even when they were at home work intervened and the only people who gained were the bosses whose four hour lunches became cruises on their new yacht that workers paid for by being fooled into believing working sixteen hour days would make you rich, but taxes made short work of that, while the bosses could now afford to pay tax accountants to get them tax relief on all sorts of things which should be illegal, but they now had enough to ^donate^ to the government's taxation minister, who generously agreed to all these concessions the ^donor^ bribed him for. Simple ;-)
Better not, we already have more than we can provide for, especially when rice and cotton growers were allowed here and they cause water to be diverted from rivers, taking more than they're allowed rate by building huge collection dams. Of course someone along the way pocketed a nice tax free donation.
And That's how it works because ethics died as greed grew.
Believe me, Kathleen, we're a plutocratic state too. Lobbyists generally get the policies and decisions they want. The reactionary media back them. And Australia is far, far too close to tRump's America. Historically always have been, sadly.
Who ever voted for homelessness, endless wars, skyrocketing costs of living and inaction on environmental issues? It doesn't matter who we voted for, this is what we got.
Meanwhile Adelson and Saban tell us about how they buy politicians of all stripes.
And then we in the west have the nerve to criticize other governments, and bring our so-called democracy at the barrels of guns.
And now you know why I support the Green Party. We can’t be bought don’t take corporate donations and sure as heck not AIPAC. Corporate media gate keeps our candidates so you won’t here them explain things like you read in this post. BOTH parties are owned. When do people wake up that trying to ‘reform’ the parties won’t work given the current system. Change comes from third parties that answer to YOU the voter not big money or special interests. It’s in our bylaws!!!
Oz had five parties when I arrived here, now we're down to two plus Greens and independents, the two that obviously had donations of course, which were given with attachments are Labor and Coalition (which are two that came together in the hope of collecting enough votes between them to stay in power).
Right, Davina. The only encouraging thing is the declining percentage of first preference votes gained by the two major parties. The worrying thing is One Nation's increasing share of that vote, according to recent polling. Big corporate money goes to the Lib/Labor duopoly. Corruption by any other name.
It goes like this: two fully corrupt political parties, owned by big money - the democratic party and the republican party, dupe Americans into believing they represent them. But instead this is what happens, called the Ratchet effect:
- Democrats Block Movement Back to the Left
- Republicans Then turn everything to the Right
So American politics for the last number of decades has kept on moving to the Right, until we ended up with both corrupt political parties endorsing and supporting a genocide in GAZA, and amazingly, people like Bernie Sanders still insisting his followers vote Democrat - while children in Gaza were being shot in the head by IDF snipers and bombed in their tents in mass numbers.
It's called the Ratchet effect. Trump will be out office soon - maybe even by this year. But the Ratchet Effect, it's not leaving any time soon.
I hope we can toss the duopoly and throw the Ratchet Effect out, but we'll need to pull the whole damn thing down and rid ourselves of all the billionaires' money first.
Perhaps we can use Adelson and Saban's billions to rebuild Gaza as they, the Palestinians would have it rebuilt. Tax them for the mess they caused by their using their money to bomb Gaza, they owe it to Gazans to rebuild it for them.
I think Adelson, Saban, AIPAC, J Street and all similar people and organizations should rebuild Gaza and pay reparations since it's their Zionism that is the primary cause for the genocide. But unless we rid ourselves of the capitalist system and the fascist regimes first, it probably won't happen.
The number of Israeli-American Orgs out there is ridiculous. Even just the Wikipedia page on Zionist Organizations in the US is extensive. Illustrative of just how deeply the sickness has permeated the tissues and capillaries of the society.
Of course let's not overlook the Zionist billionaires' manipulation of American universities is no trivial matter. Miriam Adelson funds a number of pet projects among them Campus Watch, Faculty Watch, and Canary Mission; Bill Ackman threatens to withhold millions in donations to his two-time alma mater Harvard unless it cracks down on student protests, while he doxxes students participating in them; and the self same Harvard, ostensibly standing up for academic freedom, quietly caves upon accusations of anti-semitism on campus, accommodating the Zionists through such measures as adopting the well justifiably criticized and intellectually vacant IHRA definition of anti-semitism which stands to curb academic inquiry, discussion, and criticism of Israel and Zionism. Uh, Harvard, you still have an accredited law school, don't you?
Of course, the fundamental tenet underlying "Zionist Billionaires Openly Acknowledge..." is that everything in America is for sale, and a lot of the highest bidders are, fittingly, aggrandizing Zionists, hell, that's how they started out in Palestine in the early part of the last century.
>>"Of course, the fundamental tenet underlying "Zionist Billionaires Openly Acknowledge..." is that everything in America is for sale, and a lot of the highest bidders are, fittingly, aggrandizing Zionists, hell, that's how they started out in Palestine in the early part of the last century."
Caitlin: "For me they’re just evidence that the world is ruled by wealthy sociopaths, and that western democracy is an illusion".
It was always thus. From the inception of the settler colonial state of America up to now. Remember the Constitution written by white men of property for white men of property... for the people by the people was always a myth of propaganda to throw sand in the eyes of the masses. And didn't they believe it!
Of course the rolling stone has gathered a lot of moss on its way! Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is for the oligarchs and those who willingly serve them.
The US is gigantic Mafia organization run by Oligarchs and Zionists. There is no rule of law only the Law of the Jungle. Morality takes 3rd place to Money but a zombified public does not have a clue.
"The world is ruled by wealthy sociopaths, and... western democracy is an illusion."
It most certainly is. You'd think all these open declarations by the billionaires would enrage more people and get them into the streets, tearing down the corrupt system once and for all. I keep hoping and waiting...and waiting...and waiting...
All billionaires are crooks - and worse. All should be investigated for political interference and malfeasance. No one should earn or possess more than 10X what the average person in a country has. Agree Davina, there is a lot more information on how the 1% control just about everything in this incfedible analysis: https://tritorch.substack.com/p/everything-you-watch-or-read-is-owned
Wow! Great layout of mental control. Have you posted this as an essay?
Thank you Chuck, yes, this is just a smaller oart of a masterful analysis done by @🐺The Wise Wolf, you can find it here:

I think you will find that worth every second of your time.
It's not worth saving.

Solution, do something good.
What happened to my comment?
Did you reply to me Rob? This comment is the only one i sed
I think you think I wrote that out of disappointment or defeat.
Yeah, you could say that. Can you explain what you meant
I think plutocracy risks normalizing it or granting it a shield of historical acceptability. It’s pathocracy: rule by pathological individuals. That’s the whole of the problem.
Right on! Money and power are the ultimate addiction and those who are addicted will do ANYTHING to get their next fix.
Agree. Is there any government on earth that isn't run by wealth influencing it? Good and bad governments of all the different systems are corrupt. Human nature gravitates to power and wealth.
Only if you consider pathology natural. It’s a disease, but it is naturally occurring.

Even more unfortunately, too many people bought their stories.
And continue to do so.
That's exactly right, about the hidden power structure in USA. Let's all move to Australia. (ha,ha)

Zionist millionaires openly admit their $$$ influence and our sham democracy and those who swear alligence to the constitution allow it to stand.
It's because they're all on the take. Eliminate the billionaires--eliminate the sham politicians.
Of course let's not overlook the Zionist billionaires' manipulation of American universities is no trivial matter.
