... By whom? Let's recognize that, today, unfortunately plenty will choose option [1] -- even when presented with exactly the above language. So we need also to undo the decades of indoctrination of war thinking that generates cartoon characters of any and all opponents, on each of manufactured "sides", for easy dividing-and-conquering.

I listen to Doug Macgregor, Scott Ritter, Jeffrey Sachs, John Mearsheimer, Max Blumenthal, and Jimmy Dore a lot just to remind myself that Americans are not all brainless and/or insane. Incidentally exactly the same is true here in Deutschland, although there is a new ray of hope with the Sahra Wagenknecht Movement.
It is much worse than that. Our culture is tailor-made for psychopaths to rise to positions of power and control because it is precisely those who desire power and control who will do anything and say anything to obtain it. In reality no one who desires power and control should ever be allowed into a position of power and control.

To be fair, the West has form in this. Witness demonization of Russian people in recent years, viewing them as thuggish, primitive and stupid on the one paw but at the same time having superpowers that Lex Luthor could only dream of on the other.
For that matter, such ogrish views of Jews were also common currency not so long g ago.
American Special Forces are "secretly" killing, dying, and directing artillery and airstrikes in Gaza, as Douglas Macgregor was saying last week. How/when will their deaths and injuries be explained?
As a research psychologist, I've spent years studying war, violence, and killing. Tactics of German SS troops on the Eastern Front have been of special interest. For the IDF, "Identification with the Aggressor" is now complete. They ARE the SS, and Gaza is their Warsaw ghetto. US politicians have been a key catalyst in this transformation.
