I had not heard of him before, but from the beginning of listening to your post, Caitlin, forming in the back of my mind was the question why the U.S. media never calls out U.S. war crimes as war crimes. Assassinating Iran’s Supreme Leader was a war crime; bombing schools and hospitals is a war crime; bombing other infrastructure is a war crime; targeting civilians is a war crime if not a genocide (Gaza and, increasingly, Lebanon). And this, of course, is only a partial list. Another thing the U.S. media never does is refer to this illegal war as an illegal war, that it violates our Constitution. Sometimes they go so far as to call it “a war of choice,” but that is not the same thing. So, Rupar has distinguished himself. He actually knows something. The talking heads and print journalists in the U.S. know very little. They don’t know U.S. law, much less international law. They’re mediocre if not stupid. I just listened to two “hosts” mispronounce a common English word, and their business is supposedly language. And yet the cable “news” talking heads command salaries in the millions of dollars.
Saying that international law is a fantasy (some correctly point out the obvious) should not be the end of the discussion, but the beginning. An interesting character in Don't Look Up was the media host who pretended ignorance, but turned out to have advanced degrees and speak several languages--she was playing a role because it was lucrative. The media people may actually be ignorant, or they may fake it because as you say, they command million dollar salaries for going along with the storyline. Anyone who bucks them is out.
