I'm a gig driver and all at least the people of NY have someone that will sue these companies on their behalf and their money that they're owed. Here in PA I've tried to get multiple state AG's over the years to sue these companies knowing that they're stealing billions from us. Only CA, NY and MA get justice for their drivers.
Even thinking capitalist societies are democracies and socialist or communist societies are not.
Russia isn't exactly communist anymore, but we don't hear a peep about the recent election Putin won, since that would imply (correctly) that Russia is a democracy, where people vote for their political representatives.
This is 99% unsupported conjecture based largely on the (not totally unfounded) belief that other societies are at least nominally more moral than ours. To wit, there seems to be an expectation in Asian societies (again, I don't know how true) that those at the top owe some obligation to those below them, e.g., employer to employee, government official to the citizenry. And that when that obligation is violated, trust is lost, the social mores are such that that individual face the consequences - removal from office, public shaming, prosecution. The Japanese allow for, even condone hari kari. The Chinese outright execute for gross violations.
What a fucked up world we live in! And if you do theft and fraud on a grand scale why you could be a Senator like Ric Scott or even the President.
