Because revenge and retribution doesn’t exist? I tend to see the world works otherwise. We have to put and end to that kind of violence and justification for it, or it, indeed, will put an end to us.

It does because the US government is controlled by the Neocons and Zionists of

AIPAC🇺🇸🇮🇱. They're easy to spot with their crossed 🇺🇸 and 🇮🇱 flag lapel pins. They jump up and down waving the flags of Ukro-Nazistan🇺🇦 and Zio-Nazistan🇮🇱. Most of America is like them. They know not what they do because they are brainwashed. America's afflicted with the manufactured mental disorders of Russophobia, Sinophobia and Islamophobia. Who manufactured them???

Forget "AIPAC". It's not about people sitting in Tel Aviv pulling strings. In fact the Neocons and Zionists are homegrown. They have American passports and they are in American government offices or are in management and ownership of American businesses and the finance/asset ownership oligarchy.

They are zealots and on top of that they make money from war. The majority of the money America "donates" to Ukraine or to Israel or spends bombing middle eastern and far eastern countries.....is basically subsidies to weapons, services and supplies sold by companies whose ownership includes this local zionist neocon oligarchy.

Keep in mind that any Ukrainian who vocalized opposition to the war can expect a visit from the secret police, with the usual fascist light touch.

Because Muh Democracy.

Thanks, Caitlin. "Israel always does this, and it’s so gross." Yep: the Colonial Zionists have a lock on grossness. I well recall -- my eminently credible source was the Washington Report On Middle East Affairs -- that the effing Zionists brazenly invaded and stole the Golan Heights from Syria in 1967 AFTER CEASEFIRE PARAMETERS HAD BEEN ESTABLISHED/AGREED TO. Goddam gross....

Instead of urging that other people's children get themselves killed in a foolish war, why doesn't Jack Sullivan go to Ukraine and volunteer to fight? He won't, of course, because he's a scheming coward who's never even been in a fistfight. If there was in real justice, he would be in jail for war crimes, along with Biden, all Biden's advisors, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. America, the country I've loved since childhood, has become the most dangerous, most ruthlessly homicidal nation on the planet. We slaughter, and encourage our proxies to slaughter, any group of humans we choose to target. All this without the slightest show of mercy, guilt, or shame. Perhaps our current push toward nuclear war is the work of Unconscious guilt now demanding national suicide to atone for the river of destruction we have unleased since the Vietnam War. We are not just destroying masses of innocent people. We are, slowly but surely, destroying ourselves.

You are so correct. This is not what this country was founded on. It’s so far removed from what the Founders envisioned. Not that they were perfect, they most certainly were not. They were of that time, but at least they weren’t part of the deep state and I don’t think there was an Israel lobby back then either.

Actually, not only was our nation founded on settler-colonial genocide, and chattel slavery, early settlers, such as the Puritans, were avid Christian Zionist fanatics. Among the early promoters of Zionism was such luminaries of our history as Increase and Cotton Mathers. President John Adams was apparently a supporter as well.

The written history of political Zionism is often detached from Christian Zionism, but they are deeply connected, and one pre-dates the other by some four hundred years.

Exactly. When I was young and the Vietnam war was beckoning, I immersed myself in the library for countless hours to study the history of Viet Nam. Once I understood what that war was really about, and who was pushing it, I decided not to fight. Best thing I ever did. Thoughts of all those innocent mothers and their little kids getting maimed and blown to shreds brought tears to my eyes. Still does.

There's one word, just one word, that could possibly describe what's going on in Ukraine: MADNESS. It's today's representation of the very true adage: "Lunacy is to continue doing what you have been doing while expecting to achieve a different outcome." There's no greater example of this than observing the west's lunatic approach to this contrived conflict....and some western 'leader' might please answer this: "what's the overwhelming imperative for opting to arbitrarily continue a conflict that's now putting at risk the survival of the entire human race....?"

Every normal thinking person is against these wars, part of the trouble is the prevailing usury based economic system that holds nations and entire continents to ramsom unless they comply and sign along the sovereignty vaporising dotted line of trade and defense ''agreements'' which demands nations waste a minimum of 2 % of their GDP on weapon systems produced by the MIC. [In light of recent events the Russian systems are cheaper and far superior]

The other issue is that our leading politicians are in a quandry - when they step out of line empire simply has them replaced.

No one ever talks about the Jews and usury, how Rome disliked them and other nations too in ancient times, and no one has ever said directly anything about having money and using it to charge the goyim interest while their fellow jews need not pay interest. Our world wide banking system is now built on that interest and people of long ago felt the threat that we live today. Quite certain there were people of that sect that were not taking advantage of the goyim, but if we did like Libya did or Hitler did (yeah I know the connotations with the nazi, but look around deep and see what you see.), but he was man of the year in Time Magazine for bringing his country back from a devastating WW1. He hated the Jews for good reason and he collaborated with them too for good reason. If you cannot see how you can raise one race over another by lending money to one without interest to pursue "lofty goals", and charge all others with interests because they are goyim or whatever. Jews developed a financial system the fed them our blood in taxes, but Hitler saw thru it and created his own state banks, worked in gold Krugers, and then he died. Now just so you do not think I'm totally full of shit, think of Neapolitan, Alexandre II, Tsar of Russia, think of

Allende in Chili, the price Mandela had to pay to take back control of his country, Patrice Lumumba, Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi might be a bad name to you, but you should hear his address, perhaps his only visit and certainly his last to the UN. Wikipedia seems fair to Gaddafi. All I'm pointing out is how the central banks don't like US taking the control of our own banking system which is evident in the assassinations of five presidents who tried to do so. Of course you are not taught that history in our public schools. It's too bad our own country hides the details of our founding; if they didn't we probably wouldn't have foreign agents elected to our highest offices, and we'd certainly be in control of our banking entities.

Americans should do some additional study in history as well. Americans and others in the West have been systematically brainwashed into this blind hatred of all things Russian. The Russian Federation and its political predecessor the USSR have been the US "boogeyman" for over 100 years. This is one reason that US Schools do not place emphasis on World History. If we were only more aware of history, perhaps we would be more likely to resist this status quo?

Passive voice in the title. Tch, tch. Wars don't escalate, people escalate them.

"Don’t side with the powerful. Don’t side with Israel against the Palestinians. Don’t side with the US empire against any nation it targets. Don’t side with cops against their victims. Don’t side with billionaires and politicians against the people. Don’t side with the powerful."

OK, I get that some people are instinctively authoritarian and think that by sucking up to power some will rub off on them. But I don't understand why so many of my fellow activists who don't show any obvious authoritarian personality traits feel the need to speak out in favour of what those in power are going to do anyway; even if they (probably mistakenly) think they're doing the right thing for once. As if those in power need faux legitimisation from the approval of the disempowered to do what they want to do.

It's happening again in the lead up to the NSW Drug Summit. People with decades of impeccable anti-authoritarian credentials wasting part of their presentations praising the initiatives of state bureaucrats designed to keep the problem stable (to paraphrase the late Damien Lovelock) when there's vital harm minimisation measures (e.g. decriminalisation, more medically supervised injecting rooms) that desperately need to be pushed forward in the face of official resistance. It's not as if anyone is going to be so grateful for the compliments they'll throw their support behind you. They don't need their inflated heads patted. They need their shiny arses kicked.

Wars can indeed escalate. Google's definition of the verb "to escalate": to become or cause to become more intense or serious. "The disturbance escalated into a full-scale riot".

If you don't trust Google, my 1967 Webster's defines escalate as "to increase in extent ..." with the sample sentence, "A little war threatens to escalate into a huge ugle one ..."

Escalate is a fairly new word, and does not appear in 1929 Webster's unabridged.

I'm not being anal about grammar here, I'm talking about properly attributing agency.

Yes, wars escalate when those in power escalate them. Yes, children die when they're shot by snipers. But when you speak of the act without indicating the actor(s) you're using the passive voice, which is a device commonly used by journalists to avoid drawing attention or attributing responsibility to those who carried it out.
