"To be a real journalist you must ask inconvenient questions, shine light in inconvenient directions, refuse to parrot establishment narratives, and be indifferent to the approval of the powerful." Love this! Gonzo Journalism at it's best!

Why the "leftist" vs "rightist" backlash BS, Caitlin? Don't you know there are millions who voted for Trump because he said he'd end endless wars? We need to be uniting in opposition to the MIC, not sowing more seeds of divisiveness.

If "uniting in opposition to the MIC" means abandoning my preference for socialism over capitalism, you're not really interested in uniting. Collaborating across ideological lines on issues of convergence doesn't mean demanding everyone also cease to have their own positions on other issues.

I didn't suggest you abandon socialism. Your piece addressed issues of foreign policy and peace. The word "socialism" doesn't even appear. Left and right in the US have become meaningless labels used to divide people, and if you think Democrats in general, especially the DNC, are any more "socialist" than Republicans, you are sadly deceived. Since when is AOC's idea of keeping lists and punishing Trump supporters a "socialist" idea?

Leftist means socialist. Someone who isn't a socialist isn't a leftist. Obviously the Democratic Party is not leftist. Only rightists call them that.

I wasn't suggesting you abandon either socialism or self-identification as a "leftist." The corporatists in both Republican and Democratic Parties have destroyed the meaning of "left" and "right," turning them into meaningless labels that serve only to divide. I pointed out that many people voted for Trump because they thought he would end the endless wars. There is also a very sizable minority of Republican voters who favor single payer health insurance. I'm suggesting we work with them in areas of agreement rather than help the corporate media in dividing us. Have you read Unstoppable! by Ralph Nader?

I was quoting from Nader when I said "Collaborating across ideological lines on issues of convergence", which I'm very open about doing. That doesn't mean I shouldn't want socialists to lead the backlash and have rightists follow rather than the other way around. If I didn't think leftism is better than rightism I wouldn't be a leftist.

It seems obvious to me that Caitlin is referring to the fact that there will be a backlash to empire and that it could easily be a right wing fascist tsunami with brown shirts in the streets in much larger numbers than they are now... or we could have the left wing revolution that is so sorely needed in order to help the vast majority who are suffering under neoliberalism. Chris Hedges has written along this line as well. There are many examples throughout history of liberal (fake left) failure leading to a backlash of right wing fascists in power in response to a falsely perceived failure of the actual left. Liberalism enables fascism by its hollow preening self satisfied narrative, its left-punching, and the lack of any revolutionary component to its message.

Not all Trump voters are jack-booted Nazis. There will be no "right wing fascist tsunami" nor a "left wing revolution." The unelected technocratic globalists aim to take totalitarian control through the Great Reset. You will do as you are told. All dissent will be censored. All wealth and property will be absorbed by the elites. You will own nothing, including your own body. If you insist on owning your own body, your activities will be restricted. Only the elites will be able to afford travel.

If Biden takes office, we'll be very lucky if we avoid the dystopia and are able to re-establish a peoples' democracy in the US, as it doesn't look like anybody wants to unrig our elections and drive money out of politics. That's reality, and I'm not convinced it will be much better if Trump manages to remain.

Snipped: "re-establish a peoples' democracy in the US" When the fuck was that? Must have missed it that one time when I blinked my eyes.
