Apparently Brianna is an openly trans woman. So you'd think she might realize the ugly discriminatory behavior illustrated by Israeli police thugs in beating up Christian Smalls, the Black man in the crew of the Handala, and that, in general, every racist indicator about Israeli society might serve as a warning of its fundamental sickness. But no, she's also a software developer of video games. I suspect she can readily turn off those filters when there are shekels potentially on the horizon. Don't piss off anyone where investment opportunities are involved.

Susan T's avatar

I don't think people necessarily learn to be empathetic because they have experienced discrimination. That might even make them more likely to have twisted ideas about what is right and what is wrong. I often wonder what has happened to so many in power that they push for things that are destroying the world rather than looking for ways to make things better. Maybe your last sentence about not pissing off anyone where investment opportunities are involved is what it is all about for those demented and tormented people. Today I feel as if I don't understand anything.

Mary Wildfire's avatar

Oh, it looks to me like you understand at least one fundamental thing very well. For a whole lot of the powerful, increasing their bank accounts is the whole story, the main thing that matters.

The Revolution Continues's avatar

As someone once told me about the rich and immoral: "The expensive booze and pills help them sleep very well at night." (Well, up to and until they overdose or have a heart attack, it does.)

Mary Wildfire's avatar

The rich and immoral don't need drugs to sleep at night. Their consciences can't keep them awake because they don't have consciences.

Vin LoPresti's avatar

Yes, my last sentence is indeed what it's about. Profit or the potential thereof usually wins out over other considerations. We almost always return to the ills implicit within our economic structure and the behaviors it encourages. Those who resist become lone wolves, pariahs living on the fringes. I am one, so I know the role quite well.

Trump continues wars now. Biden continued wars when in office, as did Obama, Bush, and Clinton. The military-industrial complex, which President Dwight D. Eisehhower warned against as he prepared to end his Presidency, calls the shots. Just as Big Pharma calls the shots in the medical field, along with its allies in the Medical Industrial complex, including the health insurance/hospital industries. Ralph Nader spoke presciently about this, way back in the 1990s, warning Americans of the growing corporatization of the U.S. into all fields, including education, health, technology, etc. That growing corporatization has continued unabated. Corporations - whether foreign or domestic, public or private - valued at over $230 billion should be broken up into smaller companies or not allowed to do business in the United States. They are not in the public interest. Standard Oil was similarly broken up in the U.S. in the 1920s because it was too big. The requirement to break up corporations larger than $230 billion to be allowed to do business in the U.S. is conclusion no. 24 of 28 conclusions on pages 186 - 190 in my 2022 book linked below. The U.S. government still calls the shots on who can operate a busienss in the U.S. but has ignored its authority to do so. https://www.blurb.com/b/11086425-the-campground-pandemic-plandemic-or-the-great-re

Vin LoPresti's avatar

Yup, Jenny, that's me, as well.

JennyStokes's avatar

The pain of seeing these IDIOTS is making me want to die.

JennyStokes's avatar

100 % disagree. Every single person who has suffered in some way is capable of empathy.

Come on Susan T. Tell us what you have suffered. I am interested.

Susan T's avatar

I have not suffered serious discrimination. When I was a child I was seriously abused physically and emotionally. It took a lot of work and therapy to get over that. I have worked with people who have suffered in various ways. Maybe every single person who has suffered is capable of empathy sometime, but it may take time for them to deal with what has happened to them. In the meantime, I have noticed that people who have been unable to deal with the suffering they have experienced are sometimes unable to feel self confidence or much empathy for others.

The Revolution Continues's avatar

It's called "emotional numbness" when people who have been hurt deeply can't feel anything--they can't feel sadness or anger or empathy or compassion... They just can't "feel" anything any more. Drugs and booze play a part in it as well, but sometimes abused people are so broken in their souls that they're just not capable of feeling. Sad and an indictment on humanity's cruelty to their fellow humans, IMO.

Susan T's avatar

Yes, it is sad. It happens to one person who then may pass it on to their children and on and on. It is not simply humanity's cruelty to their fellow humans though. It is our social system whereby poor people are treated as less important.

JennyStokes's avatar

I understand BUT tell me something Susan.

YOU had the money to go to therapy.................you have smashed the whole world. Is there 'therapy' in Africa/Sri Lanka. etc.

SO self absorbed.

gypsy33's avatar

Hey, Jenny, bet the Gazans don’t have therapists either.

They’re all dead.

photogart's avatar

No, Jenny, Susan did not smash the world. The U.S. government acts on behalf of its corporate friends and sponsors to a much greater degree than on behalf of U.S. citizens. That difference between the government of a country and the people of a country also applies to Australia, China, Russia, France, Canada, Kenya, Guinea, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, etc. So, please do not blame Susan. That is misguided. Yes, there is a wide income gap between the U.S. and developing countries. That is not your fault, or my fault, or Susan's fault. Calling Susan "SO self-absorbed" is particularly not helpful. It shows zero empathy for what Susan bravely wrote. It causes division. Division allows fear to take hold. We need more unity. Less division. More love. Less fear. And thank you to Susan for sharing what you did.

gypsy33's avatar

"Apparently Brianna is an openly trans woman" - oh that's nice. Another confirmation that perversion of the mind is all encompassing.

Are there any LGBTQ+-*/ etc orgs fighting for Palestine? Unlikely, since Muslim culture is dead set about those types of perversions. Israel, OTOH, is the world capital of it.

What discrimination is it that trans women face exactly? Not being allowed into women's spaces and accepted as a woman simply because they would like to be? Would Brianna Wu have any platform at all if she wasn't trans? Trans women, a lot like Israel, demand the world (or in practice: women) accept their distorted vision of reality and accept that if they have to hurt anyone who doesn't accept it, the trans woman/Israeli in question is still the victim. It's gaslighting and projection

WHY does the USA Govt. decide who is wrong or right in peoples homes?

HOME is where the heart is in the USA? But you Americans live by your Gvt, rules? Why?

I'm not much responding today, Jenny, but because of an experience I just had at a corporate pharmacy, I will to you. Americans live by one primary rule, Jenny. CYA [cover your ass]. It's cowardice to stand up for what's correct to their bosses, corporate a-holes, their govt, -- terrified of figures of authority impacting what they perceive to be their cushy little lives.

I have met people who are trans who lack much awareness of the pain of other people. But I have met even more people who are not trans who lack that awareness. Everything you are saying can be applied equally to straight men or women be they white or people of colour. I don't quite understand why you would choose to apply that kind of thinking only or even mostly to young trans or gay people. Perhaps you have some issues yourself?

JennyStokes's avatar

I have absolutely NO issues Susan. All I want is people to speak truth.

This is such 'American speak'..............'perhaps you have issues yourself'. Grow up and travel and see the world before telling me I have 'issues!'

Tell me Susan where have YOU lived?

The idiocy of American/Canadian think bores me to death.

Susan T's avatar

That issues reply was meant for Fred Shred, who deleted his comments about trans people. You seem to be on a bit of a roll, Jenny. You assume I spent a lot of money going to therapy, but I happened to live in a place where there was family therapy that cost nothing and I was lucky enough to meet an amazing therapist. I understand that I was very lucky. She probably saved my life. I have often thought that therapy should be available for everyone. Even here, the kind of free therapy I got is no longer available. I used to think that the entire state of Israel needed therapy. I wonder if it would have helped to prevent the catastrophe that is happening now. I have travelled, I have lived and worked in other countries. You are not the only one who posts to this list who has travelled and understands that North America is not the world.

Darren G Whitney's avatar

Israeli "therapy" is centred around turning off your emotions/conscience when you are on patrol, breaking children's limbs, murdering, torturing and kidnapping civilians. No help there...

Susan T's avatar

Seems more like numbing out and obeying to me. That's what people do when they cannot cope with the abuse/brainwashing etc that they have had to endure. They have lost the ability to think for themselves

I have not seen that in the trans people I have met. I also think it is a bad idea to lump people all together like that. I think that trans people have as many different ways of thinking and approaching life as any other group of people.

Feral Finster's avatar

I am all for someone who finally gets wise and admits it. "Even they who came at the eleventh hour" and all that.

Brianna Wu, however, is trying to have it both ways, which I suppose is sort of the point of this essay.

Landru's avatar

People are positioning themselves for history now, See I was against murdering a million people. Friends (former) are starting to do that and want to talk. Me, Fuck off, I know whats in your heart.

Feral Finster's avatar

I suspect the reason that they are suddenly positioning themselves for history is because of Epstein and his relationships to Israel and one Donald J. Trump.

If that bomb ever goes off, they don't want to be anywhere near it.

Landru's avatar

Interesting. Myself, I think this is to get ahead of the inevitable comparison to the Nazi. I read a paper about the generational challenges of Germans during and after the Nazi genocides. " Why did you let this happen" questions from young people. Today those that think murdering a million Palestinians because israel was forced to kill hundreds of it's own people in a Hannibal Directive as an excuse will run from those very public comments about justice cause. Young people are seeing the truth live not having to wait for discovery through trials in the Hague. History thankfully is not kind when its a filmed live murder.

Diana van Eyk's avatar

I hope Brianna sees this post.

If there are accusations of genocide and tons of compelling evidence, isn't it important to check to see if those things are valid? And, yes, she should be grovelling, and doing everything she can, just like us, to stop it.

Darren G Whitney's avatar

It's performance. Her bubble is filling with the smell of reality and she's trying to fan it away with what she thinks passes for a conscience. If she sees this post, she will probably ignore it because she'll realise the audience knows she's incapable of a convincing apology and that an indignance mask will get her nowhere.

Landru's avatar

OH that is so fun to think about hahahah. I love you hahahha

Dandyredpanda's avatar

For any politician and any mouth-piece of genocide that is finally recognizing a genocide as a genocide—they are only saying it in effort to save their own image. No one wants to be the last one supporting a genocide.

If they were truly remorseful they would resign; resign and spend the rest of their life dedicated towards the care and advancement of Palestinians—at the direction of the people of Palestine themselves. Do this or find some fucking rope. Those are the options.

Rod Dawson's avatar

No decent person ever supported Israel. No decent person could.

SW's avatar

I agree. From the very first days it was obvious where this was headed. Even for those genuinely confused with the barrage of propaganda, when the first hospital was bombed (as Israeli bombs were dropping all around it) and the Israeli tried to blame Hamas, that should have alerted them. And the atrocities escalated quickly, Doctors Without Borders early on sounded the alarm so these people can not pretend no one told them . I have no respect for their statements acknowledging this is genocide.

Where are actual apologies?

I’m so sick of anyone who is still defending Israel and spewing the lies that they’re not killing civilians! Netanyahu and his criminal henchmen like Snotrich and Feiglin say it out loud.

Israel is not “ defending itself” .. it is a terrorist country waging genocide and everyone knows it. It is doing exactly what the Nazis did to the Jews in the 30’s when my family were their victims!

Honestly, I think we should take ALL the propagandists--media pundits or just nasty troll amateurs online--and make them go to Gaza and SEE what they've done. And then we give them a tiny toothbrush and bucket and tell them, "Clean up the place and make it livable for Palestinians again." They can clean the rubble and unexploded ordinance with their bare hands until the entirety of Gaza is sparkling and rebuilt. That way they will make their penance and the Gazans can have their homes back in better shape than ever before. Make'em work their war crimes off!
