Harris said, on camera, that Vice President Cheney puts country before party, wants to thank him for his service to this country, and that she’s honored to have his endorsement.
Voting for a third party candidate who is anti-genocide, anti-war, pro-justice and pro-worker is a clear statement that actually says why you are not voting for either of the two Uniparty candidates. Anything else is helping the MSM/TPTB silence y/our voices. Why would you want to do that.
Come on, people. You can vote for Harris, vote for Stein, vote for Trump, vote for Elmer Fudd, stand outside the voting booth with a sign or ignore the whole thing--all these actions have the same effect. If we want to change anything--and by now, survival requires changing everything--we need to stop wasting time, energy, attention on the farce that is US elections and start talking about what we might do that could actually change anything. Meanwhile, do not foment the division that has been manipulated by the ruling class to keep us from uniting and acting against them, by directing hostility at people you know who make a different choice on election day.
Exactly. It has been clear (to me) that government has been *openly* unresponsive to public opinion at least since the time of the (non-coverage of the) Iraq anti-war protests of 2002-03.
In other words, mere public discourse is *completely not functioning* as we expect it to in a democracy. The friendly forums we occupy like this one are are simply (a) venting devices, for us; and (b) spying devices, for the intelligence agencies.
maybe one should try to find out what the duopoly likes least (not voting or 3rd party voting) and do that thing. actions of reps and dems (who both oppose actual democracy in general) seem to indicate that both prefer that people don't vote over people voting 3rd party. how can one tell if non-voters don't endorse the corrupt system or are just saying they're fine with whoever wins (as long as both keep supporting their jobs in the mic)?
anyone can ask any question and you just did a few. now try to think them over and offer your opinions that we can further discuss. also, provide evidence for your claim that "actions of reps and dems seem to indicate...". which actions and how they indicate that thing.
I’d like to suggest voting for Jill Stein. If everyone who is against this genocide votes for her, everyone who is antiwar, she will win. Jill Stein will stop sending weapons on day one. They can’t continue without US weapons.
It’s also a vote for the ongoing “lethality” of the US military her advocacy of which was the single utterance of truth she expressed during the presidential debate travesty.
The western media are a bunch of cowards and they prefer to brown nose up to those in power rather than to look at the truth. They blabber on about the suffering of Israel and write as if all the bombs dropping on and around Beirut are not dropping on peoples children, their friends, their families. They talk about Israel "defending" itself. They ignore how Iran has avoided killing civilians and aimed their missiles at military operations. I have read that the definition of insanity is repeatedly doing something that has never worked. Is this working?
You dimwit, THE JEWS IN ISREAL ARE THE ONLY ONES LEFT IN THE REGION BECAUSE THE MUTSLUMS HAVE ETHNICALLY CLEANSED THE ENTIRE MIDDLE EAST OF EVERYONE BUT MUSLUMS. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE POPULATIONS OF 25%THE PLANET THROUGH USING WOMEN AS SEX SLAVES OVER THE LAST 1400 YEARS. HITLER WAS A GHOUL AND MOHAMMED MAKES THAT DIRTBAG LOOK LIKE A CHOIRBOY. THE “HOLY MAN” OF iSLUM WAS A SADISTIC PSYCHOPATH WHO HAD A WOMAN EXECUTED IN HER SLEEP WHILE SHE LAY BREASTFEEDING HER INFANT CHILD. AND NO LIE, ITS NOT PROPAGANDA—HE LITERALLY MARRIED A SIX YEAR OLD GIRL, AISHA, AND STARTED HAVING “RELATIONS” WITH HER WHEN SHE WAS NINE! There is so much more, you need to wake up and stop buying the lies— the people who brought us the Ten Commandments and Quantum Mechanics are not the enemy—the ones who burned all of the Books in the Library of Alexandria to warm their bath water and set the species back a THOUSAND YEARS are the fucking problem and have been a plague on humankind- they’ve enslaved and murdered MILLIONS FOR CENTURIES. Ask India how many Hindus were murdered by these dimwits—FOUR AND A HALF MILLION IN TWO YEARS. iSLUM WANTS TO TAKE OVER THE PLANET, READ THE QURAN AND WAKE UP.
Have you read the Bible? It is also filled with many atrocities and horror. More Muslims have been killed by the U.S. than any other nation. There are Jews living peacefully with Iranians in Iran. You are getting the media and propaganda too much in your head. This war is not about religion but about territory which Israel has continuously illegally occupied for years.
Israel is committing genocide, burning babies and children to death, killing innocent civilians, and trying to start WWIII. And Netanyahu is a war criminal, a terrorist, and under indictment in his own country. That’s the ‘current’ problem the world faces. I don’t want to die because of one man’s fetish for killing people, labeling them terrorists, he doesn’t like supported by paid off and bribed US representatives.
I appreciate your passion. The Mongols burned the books. You yell a lot. Stop it. Islam is not innocent and very violent. Zionists are very guilty of mass murder. The chicken/egg thing is very apparent in this world.
Yes, that could be said, couldn't it? But any organized, establishment religion becomes a power center and a destructive thing. Even Buddhists engage in wars.
Yes, it's the concentration of power that's the source of danger, whatever cultural vehicle it makes use of. We need to develop a culture that understands this as fundamentally self-evident, in the same way we understand that a fire in the hearth is helpful, but the whole house on fire is a disaster.
SUDAN? DOES THAT RING A BELL YOU FUCKING RACIST?👍GOOD JOB WITH SUPPORTING THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN RAPING ENTIRE POPULATIONS OUT OF EXISTENCE FOR 1400 YEARS. I hope you get what you deserve. iSLUM is a racist mass murder movement that has ethnically cleansed a quarter of the planet.
“GENOCIDE”?LOOK AT THE FUCKING MAP GENIUS. HOW DO YOU THINK THE ENTIRE REGION BECAME “ARAB ISLAMIC REPUBLICS”? THE PEOPLE YOU ARE ACCUSING OF “GENOCIDE” HAVE BEEN EXTERMINATED AND DRIVEN OUT OF EVERY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE REGION WHICH HAS BEEN ETHNICALLY CLEANSED BY THE WORLDS LONGEST RUNNING ETHNOFASCIST RACIAL SUPREMACY MOVEMENT—iSLUM. 1400 YEARS OF GENOCIDE YOU FUCKING MORON.
Right on Caitlin. In addition to your examples, there is also a very sick and unhealthy culture in the USA of some sort of celebrity journalism. These celebrity anchors are not journalists. Some are ex political appointees who go in and out of the media. They are airing their personal and political opinions, not reporting the news. But American viewers are so stupid they even believe that Anderson Cooper and Jake tapper are journalists. They are not. Thats why people like Dana bash are so dangerous. Not to mention virtually all of the NYT opinion writers.
Yep, we are no longer in a world of Huntley-Brinkley's, Cronkites, Chancellors, Sevareids, Murrows, Robin MacNeils and Lehrers: real journalists who cut their journalistic teeth in the last century and prior to the time when networks competed for ratings by hiring suave and--dare we say it?--pretty boys and girls who could manage an earnest, "competent" demeanor while spoon feeding us the menu of the absolute scoundrels and their soulless operatives who run this country, and are now running it into the ground. How attractive, how very SERIOUS they all are. Turns out women "journalists" who look like Victoria's Secret models can serve Empire as well as can their square jawed male colleagues. Conkrite may not have been pretty, but when he told the truth about Vietnam on national primetime television one memorable evening, President Johnson knew the jig was up. We can't expect that kind of candor from the pathetic sycophants and genocide apologists who populate the media today.
So true Will Durant!! I grew up watching all of the excellent anchors you mentioned in your post. How far we have fallen. Ted Koppel!! I read that Connie Chung has written a memoir. I also love Judy Woodruff. Gwen Ifill!! We used to be able to do it. I blame rush limbaugh because he started the political shock radio and certain people loved that and the fight was on and the U.S. media is now political, not informative or educational.
US of A is gigantic whorehouse. Unbridled capitalism has turn everyone in to a prostitute who will do everything they can, regardless of morals, empathy, conscience or consequences for money. Politicians are in front of the line followed by MSM "journalist" and 99.9% of that sick society.
Has our Western Oligarchy made the same decision as the Japanese oligarchs in 1936?
The Army General Staff's report on their chances of beating the USA if it opposed their SE Asian ambitions gave Japan 3-5 years before collapsing, with 10% chance of winning.
Millions of Japanese died so that their 1000-year-old oligarchy could stagger on for a few more years (then be reconstituted by the US oligarchy).
Our leaders want us to die to give their dollar-dependent oligarchy another 3-5 years.
Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish told Chris Hedges Thursday evening that the Palestinians recognize a few things about the people who seek to erase them. They are as violent against, and as determined to kill peaceful protesters as armed combatants. They are committed to total victory. And the Palestinians know that genocide is a policy to which the Zionists subscribe and they also know that genocide has long been a policy of their American underwriters.
From the American settlement in the colonies, 90% of the indigenous population was erased. From before America’s entry into WWII, the wealthy elite was quietly funding and rooting for the Germans.
The ruse of being a democratic state was made possible by a media that was populated with writers and reporters who were as naive and clueless as their customers. When anti monopoly and anti trust laws were relaxed, before taxes were viewed by a bamboozled public as being a bad thing, and so before billionaires existed, Americans could be forgiven for believing they lived in a benign state.
The dawning of the internet has made it impossible for a corporate owned media to mask its ideological allegiance to its employers, as opposed to the truth. If it isn’t clear to everyone yet, the casual manner in which the leading media outlets have reported a full year of state murder, completely subsidized by the owners of those media, is all the evidence required to recognize that the truth is not part of the commercial media’s purview.
Funny thing is the email alerting me to this post arrived just as I hit 'send' on the following email I sent out to my mailing list which I headed "The Conversation limbos to a new propaganda low".
I won't bother listing all the factual misstatements, prejudicial rhetoric, misleading lack of context and fundamentally biased outlook in this article. If you're interested, read it. I'm sure you'll spot it in almost every sentence.
But the writer's disclosure statement makes his perspective abundantly clear.
> Ran Porat is a research associate at The Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council (AIJAC) and Research Fellow at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism, Reichman University, Herzliya, Israel. He is affiliated with Australian Centre for Jewish Civilization, Monash University. He is also a former IDF military intelligence officer.
So The Conversation is now unembarrassed about 'informing' its readers with propaganda that's not only blatant and extreme but wears the fact it's propaganda proudly on its chest as a medal.
Presumably it's not meant as reporting, analysis or information in any meaningful sense but is instead meant to provide talking points to those who seek to make unqualified support for Israel a loyalty test for Australians.
After the fourth paragraph The Conversation makes its pitch.
I’d never read this “Conversation” before. What a great opportunity to teach students how to spot bias and framing techniques, all in one short piece! Thanks!
As Res hints below, 'The Conversation' is sort of a cut rate Guardian whose main function is telling liberals what to think.
There's a lot of demand for that sort of thing here. Our settler-colonial mentality ensures we listen closely to those who can explain why anything unfortunate that happens is the fault of the victims and we're doing our best to shoulder the white man's burden of seeking to uplift them to our level of civilisation if possible or smoothing their dying pillow if they remain intransigently savage and primitive.
As with Arendt's observations about Eichmann, we'd much rather follow the instructions of appropriate authorities than take responsibility for our own moral decisions and risk demonstrating we're not as intelligent as we pretend to be.
Yeah, an aspect of the liberal professional class is they overvalue technocratic expertise and downplay conflicts of interest - including in themselves. So an academic with a background in IDF military intelligence must know what he's talking about, right?
It's a play for vicarious authority without having to take responsibility for it and something our education systems inculcate from an early age. Spend a couple of decades patting people on the head for regurgitating 'respectable' opinions and some are going to regard it as virtuous.
You saw a lot of that with the Russiagate BS and almost everything that comes off Luke Harding's keyboard; the implicit claim that access to 'unnamed intelligence sources' gives you an inside track on the truth and anyone without such access has nothing legitimate to say. Mix that sort of info-elitism with the churnalism decades of media cutbacks has engendered and it's no wonder so much 'reporting' is now paraphrased disinformation from unnamed insiders speaking 'off the record'. The Conversation is ahead of the game in cutting out the media middleman and just letting the spooks tell us directly what we should believe.
My father pointed out The Conversation to me during Covid, hoping it would tone down the things I was saying at family gatherings about the unprecedented social engineering operation going on around us. Normally reasonably sceptical of propaganda himself, he was nonetheless taken in by this site.
I have to admit it's a little more subtle than most of these fact-checking outfits in that it peppers the think-tank stooges and barely disguised intelligence agents among a larger number of professors, scientists and other experts talking about uncontroversial but interesting topics with an objective educational tone, hoping that the vibe rubs off on the real content.
I think this may be effective on a lot of Boomers but, as a Gen Xer, I had been a teenager and just becoming aware of the larger world during the onset of AIDS - I became well aware of the ways experts can be used to manipulate public opinion. I could see that The Conversation was just an elaborate exercise in the art of argumentum ad verecundiam. I had a hard time persuading my dad that scientific objectivity does not necessarily make a person immune to the hierarchical, political, economic and social pressures to which we're all subjected.
In general, each new generation tends to place less and less trust in authority.
I think young people tend to have less trust in authority but seems to me the boomers were among the most rebellious generation in modern history when they were young, only to become increasingly vigorous defenders of the status quo as they aged and got their hands on more wealth and power. In part because they've been so successful in hanging onto their privilege and not passing it on to subsequent generations the phenomena of becoming more conservative with age is diminishing.
So in a nutshell, I'd suggest post-boomer young people tend less rebellious than the boomers - probably in part because the boomers' death grip on wealth and power has made rebellion less fruitful - but lose what rebelliousness they have more slowly because they're not given a stake in society they consider to be worth defending from change.
I also think being the first generation with good access to tertiary education led the boomers to fetishise technocratic expertise and have undue optimism about its capacity to improve society and the human condition. It's also led them to focus more on what can be quantified and presented 'objectively' - life performance indicators if you like - while losing focus on less tangible values.
And finally I'd argue post-Enlightenment society hugely overvalues 'objectivity' - so much so that 'objective' and 'true' have become near synonyms.
We forget we have no real access to what Kant called 'das Ding an sich' - we *only* experience things subjectively. However in order to communicate we have to assume there's an objective reality we can share sufficiently for words, etc, to mean more or less the same things to different people. We often lose sight of the fact it's an unverifiable working assumption and not a universal law and thereby overextend it.
People forget that when Galileo hived off what we now call 'science' from the rest of natural philosophy he was deliberately restricting himself to what could be quantified and reasonably objectified, leaving the rest in the realm of philosophy. Many people - i.e. adherents to Scientism - think *everything* can be defined and explained scientifically and therefore things that can't be objectified and quantified don't really exist. That even includes (mostly New Atheist) 'illusionists' who think consciousness doesn't really exist because it can't be objectified, despite it being the salient - even foundational - feature of *all* experience.
And of course there's many things - including 'social sciences', 'mind sciences' and politics - which are too complex and chaotic to be meaningfully modeled mathematically, despite the psychological need so many of us feel to impose order on our universe by reducing it to terms we think we can understand.
“Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah had agreed to a ( 21-day ceasefire”), has the US or Israel ever been true to their word, agreements or treaties? When will the people of the world stop believing that these people are honest?
A country that is governed with the doctrine of empire will always have one goal, world dominance. Why would they negotiate for something that would disrupt the pursuit for the empire?
Narcissist, psychopaths, and social paths will lie cheat and steal for their end goals, it is not about what is right for the good of others it is only about their own superiority.
When we get the guillotines finished it's going to be a toss up as to whom goes first: It's either the genocide-enabling politicians or their propagandist stooges from the mainstream media. I say we build twice as many guillotines so there's no need to wait.
Oh, Caitlin: you are so right on. These affronts to God, His Prince of Peace, and normal humanity simply cannot be going on...but they are going on...and on...and on. I 'live' in (un)quiet -- and so ineffectual -- desperation. My intense-personality "empathy" cup runneth over...but that does neither me nor anyone else any good. Endless sadness, disbelief, and, yes, shame....
Viva Palestine and all of the valiant Axis of Resistance!
You made an important point here. There is a feeling of impunity in the Atlantic empire since they conquered and colonized first America, then Asia and finally Africa. We must not expect a general trial for history's many attrocities. Who is going to judge Julius Cesar, Gengis Khan or Napoleon... They know it and act consequently. But, in order to understand the extent of the Hydra power, journalists come in the first position, because they are the visible face of the monster. But what about actors and artists, especially musicians... What about doctors and nurses ! What about businessmen and corporations ! It is the WHOLE f....g system which is stinking rotten.
The credibility gap is ever wider and deeper yet these spinmeisters seem still able to beguile the masses. The credulity bridge seems to be infinitely elastic. What on god's earth is going to cut through the lies? Perhaps when we realise that we are expendable too, worth as much to them as Palestinians, Yemenis, Lebanese, Syrians, Libyans, Afghanis, Iraqis, Iranians, Somalis...
I hope I see all people as worthy of respect, even those strange examples of humanity who do not appear to value any life, including other species, unless it provides them with a financial benefit. And if we speak about love, then I cannot say these damaged people are capable of expressing it for others at all. I was trying to say that any mass awareness only seems possible if people understand the reality of their precarious existence when the forces of imperialism turn against them. Otherwise, it is selective empathy directed by mass indoctrination.
Thank you for putting words to my silent screaming.
Liz Cheney is campaigning with Kamala Harris.
Harris said, on camera, that Vice President Cheney puts country before party, wants to thank him for his service to this country, and that she’s honored to have his endorsement.
These fucking psychopaths.
A vote for Kamala Harris is a vote for Dick Cheney.
Don't Vote! Stand outside a voting booth with a plackhard which reads 'Go in and write of your voting form "Stooge A or Stooge B It doesn't matter."
Voting for a third party candidate who is anti-genocide, anti-war, pro-justice and pro-worker is a clear statement that actually says why you are not voting for either of the two Uniparty candidates. Anything else is helping the MSM/TPTB silence y/our voices. Why would you want to do that.
What Jack proposed is not exactly being silent. To participate in a corrupt system is to endorse it.
I have said this before: Stand outside the Mainstream Media offices with your placards and make it uncomfortable for these people to go to work.
Exactly. It has been clear (to me) that government has been *openly* unresponsive to public opinion at least since the time of the (non-coverage of the) Iraq anti-war protests of 2002-03.

"all these actions have the same effect" - except that via active non-participation you don't sully yourself by association with a corrupt system.
maybe one should try to find out what the duopoly likes least (not voting or 3rd party voting) and do that thing. actions of reps and dems (who both oppose actual democracy in general) seem to indicate that both prefer that people don't vote over people voting 3rd party. how can one tell if non-voters don't endorse the corrupt system or are just saying they're fine with whoever wins (as long as both keep supporting their jobs in the mic)?

The American “Communist” Party aren’t taking part in the elections, but they’re not even communist at all lol
I’d like to suggest voting for Jill Stein. If everyone who is against this genocide votes for her, everyone who is antiwar, she will win. Jill Stein will stop sending weapons on day one. They can’t continue without US weapons.
Hi Kat
This will be my third time voting for Dr. Jill.
I recently returned from Denver and was heartened to see all the yard signs endorsing her.
On the other hand, I have one in my yard and people have actually asked me, “What’s she running for?” (!!!)
My opportunity to educate, at least.
It’s also a vote for the ongoing “lethality” of the US military her advocacy of which was the single utterance of truth she expressed during the presidential debate travesty.
And then they have Victoria Nuland, Elliott Abrams, Blinken, Miller, Sullivan, etc. the Naziz PNACrs.
Holy shit.
They are not journalists. They are servants and supporters of power.
The western media are a bunch of cowards and they prefer to brown nose up to those in power rather than to look at the truth. They blabber on about the suffering of Israel and write as if all the bombs dropping on and around Beirut are not dropping on peoples children, their friends, their families. If you want world war three then it's working. Today a Russian ship shot down us missiles.

Probably!

Please recall also the great Peter Jennings, the last real journalist/news anchor of my time. I wept when that man died.
Well said.
Exactly. Thank you.

Media does what it's supposed to do. And the western people will claim the same kind of ignorance Germans claimed in 1945.
Listen to what Assange had to say recently. Especially those who still believe in voting and contacting their public servants. Stop being idiots.

"Help us fight misinformation. Donate now."
The Conversation - you can trust us, we've got PhD's!
I say go for the journalists first so they can’t warn the politicians.
😁
Well said 👍
Oh, Caitlin: you are so right on.
Brilliant, essential. Thank you.
