I suppose in a sense everyone wanted/wants peace. Hitler wanted peace probably as much as Churchill did. But everyone wants that peace on their own terms - Netanyahu does want peace but he wants a peace which includes zero Palestinians and hegemony in the Middle East.

War and a Scary Enemy are needed for two reasons:

1. To justify why we can't have nice things. Healthcare? Infrastructure? Education? We don't have time for that now, don't you know we gotta fight Saddam/Milosevic/Bin Laden/Saddam again/Ghadaffi/Assad/ISIS/Putin/Hamas/Houthis/ad nauseam.

2. To justify crackdowns on civil liberties. You and your namby-pamby Bill of Rights, you hate our freedom! What, are you on the side of the fascists/communists/Islamicists/Russians/ ad nauseam?

It’s absolutely stunning how Americans cheer its military engagements across the globe whilst the country falls apart around them and more people fall into poverty and end up living on the streets because their leaders don’t give a rat’s ass about what happens to them.

Anyone read the Sword of Truth series? Americans are the people living in the Old World and are just too dumb to understand why.

I haven’t read this series. Should I? I see the author’s first name is Terry. Can’t help but think of Terry Pratchett’s brilliant “disc world” series. I’ve read them all but the last one, which will forever remain unopened, so I always know there’s still one more left I haven’t read.

I’ve tried reading Pratchett, but I couldn’t get into it. Maybe I started with the wrong book.

I’ve been listening to books for almost 30 years and if I like one I listen to it more than once. Plus I had a brain injury in my teens which still affects my memory so I can read books and watch movies and it’s like it’s the first time. 😁

Yes, but this logic applies globally, not only to the US. Look at how Civil Liberties, freedoms, rights, etc. have been eroded in Ukraine because of Zelenskyy (and his dictates). Zelenskyy has (for all intents and purposes) become a dictator (and a corrupt puppet of the US Empire).

I heard snatches of Biden's speech on The News Hour, and could barely stomach it. It was so self-serving, trying to preserve a legacy that his behavior should have denied him and aided by the corrupt politicians that surround him. Then, he was applauded by many as an example of the old commander giving up his place to save his people. Such utter crap! If he was so concerned about his people, he would have declined to run again and allowed an opportunity for a primary where the people could have had a role in deciding who their candidate would be instead of having an unpopular one foisted on us, and then watching and listening to the delusional outcry over the fantastic Democratic candidate he gave us. People are constantly decrying the supporters of Trump as being either stupid or delusional, yet here are the Democrats doing the same thing.

As close to reality as it gets. The average person is so engulfed by social norms to satisfy the hunger of the empire that resisting it is futile to a large degree. The flower generation ( hippies) somewhat closed the gap between empathy and apathy, but as time went by the old standards of enslavement came roaring back and were solidly secured.... If you own the media, print as much money as you want, and you can dictate what laws will be passed, you don't vote.

I enjoyed your article very much, you speak the truth in reference to our foreign policy. For years the Vietnam war bothered me like it did everyone else but I always wanted to know what caused it. The vast majority of people would tell you it was a CIA war, that is not correct. I watched a very eye opening documentary about Vietnam, if for example you were to Google the Vietnam war, you would be told the old story about the U.S fighting Communism, not true. It was a political war that was our foreign policy that dated back to WWII, the Eisenhower administration started this foreign policy propaganda going back to his first administration. Another perfect example the middle eastern region as we know it now came after WWI, the Truman doctrine of 1948 recognized Israel. George Marshall was Truman's secretary of state. Marshall one of the greatest WWII generals, resigned his position in Truman's cabinet, because he felt it was not in our countries interest's to recognize Israel and he further felt that our military would be tied up in the middle east forever. He was right. But if you were to Google this you would be told Marshall resigned due to health problems. The United States has a failed and flawed foreign policy. The biggest slap in the face to our country is the 58,000 soldiers that died defending this failed policy along with all the other young men and women that died defending this foreign policy from Iraq to Afghanistan. If you can take the time to find out as much as you can about Vietnam the truth will amaze you. Keep up the good work.

Based on the speeches in the U.N. yesterday , it looks like the rest of the world and Arab leaders are finally going to start taking the matter into their own hands, and bypass a bought off AIPAC run US government and its decrepit, corrupt POTUS. Although the horror likely to be unleashed, will be something the world has not seen since the goose stepping, gas chamber Nazi mass murderers, and not something any of us ought to applaud, it now seems inevitable. The only thing that will stop the empire is to take away their ability to make money. If the empire goes bankrupt, the military industrial complex will either shut down with them or move somewhere else to continue their arms sales. Given how badly the Americans and a lot of other countries are so deeply in debt, the global crash may come very soon and the Russians, Chinese and other BRICS allies may be the only ones left standing when the west collapses under the weight of all of that debt. With the west impoverished, the U.S. will try to go out swinging with economic sanctions and maybe some military threats that will be toothless. The U.S. is still crushing the Iraqis with their economic sanctions even though they want to kick the Americans to the curb. How many more millions of Arabs need to die before the U.S. and their allies fade into history?
