Because we have to many right-wing provincial governments that want to privatize it, there can be lengthy wait times (but most of the time they are reasonable) but if you really need care it is there. Of course, that may vary from town to town (it's a very big country), again because of right-wing privatizers, but "Canada's health care" is generally great. I have experienced it both in emergency situations and in general care here in Nova Scotia and I wouldn't want to have been anywhere else.

Every year the Muslim community in my hometown of Flint presents a Day of Giving to give back to the community. They offer everything imaginable to those who come seeking help, not the least of which are cursory medical exams (my area is blessed with many Arab and/or Muslim physicians).
Not one single fucking church or >cough< SYNAGOGUE does any fucking thing comparable.
Having a large Muslim population makes ANYWHERE a better place. What a beautiful religion.

I was born into a Catholic family; didn't take too long to see how full of shit this organization was and still is - they do next to NOTHING for their communities. The big one for me is how they protect their pedophile priests. My family had one of those who was protected by the silence of the family and the church itself - how fucked up is that? This monster died of AIDS and makes me wonder how many of his victims did too. I have encountered the Muslim faith and what they believe and do in my reading - I was pleasantly surprised and gratified by this beautiful religion. Be well Gypsy33.

No organized religion here either G33, but I do find wisdom and refuge in Buddhist practice/ thought. Several years ago, I had "Democracy Now" on the TV but was busy with something else, my attention split, until I heard the voice of a Muslim man who'd been in prison in Guantanamo Bay for 14-years, being interviewed by Amy Goodman - his voice in some ways, the voice of an angel! - he wrote a book about his experience titled "Don't Forget Us Here: Lost and Found at Guantanamo" by Mansoor Adayfi -- the voice of this man immediately captured my attention - I thought, who is this guy? went out to buy his book and watched that DN interview and others a few times to "get to know him better". In my watching, listening and reading, I realized the beauty and love this man was steeped in - I've never forgotten his voice or his vibe -- light years beyond anything I ever caught wind of in the religion of my birth.
In all of the world's turmoil right now, we are quite privileged to still see and feel the Light in ourselves and others. Shine.

I’m not surprised that some of the Christian (maybe all) refused help to a woman posing as a desperate mother. For years, especially at “churches” like Joel Olsteen’s, what they’ve preached is “a gospel of prosperity” which pretty much says God will reward the true believers with riches so if you’re poor, then by the extension of this logic, too bad it’s your own fault. Wow. You know what, I grew up in that "Socialist hell hole" known as Canada where the social safety net is quite intact as compared to the USA. When you get sick or injured you go to the hospital in a state-funded ambulance, show your state-funded medical card, and are treated with no bill or financial burden to bankrupt you or your family. If you lose your job you receive state-funded unemployment insurance no questions asked. If you're truly desperate you can apply for state-funded welfare and get a check cut THE VERY SAME DAY.
And go figure, for some reason Canada hasn't fallen to tyranny or oppression, whereas America most certainly has. Funny that, huh?

Because the health care system in Canada generally delivers excellent care. Because we have to many right-wing provincial governments that want to privatize it, there can be lengthy wait times (but most of the time they are reasonable) but if you really need care it is there. Of course, that may vary from town to town (it's a very big country), again because of right-wing privatizers, but "Canada's health care" is generally great. I have experienced it both in emergency situations and in general care here in Nova Scotia and I wouldn't want to have been anywhere else.

In the first place, the two-party Right/Left paradigm has been a fraud from the very beginning of our history. What we have in this country, and we have had for a long time, is a one-party tyranny designed to enrich and empower the few psychopaths that seek to rule over us in every facet of our lives. I’ve done a lot of volunteer landscape maintenance at our township hall, and next spring will assist at the local Catholic Church (I’ve already planned the landscape) not because I attend it, but because most of my friends/neighbors on my mile of the road do.
