Chris Hedges put it Best: Nations have a 'mystique' to them which motivates people to fight, serve, etc under their flag. However, when Crimes like Ethnic Cleansing & Genocide are committed, that Mystique evaporates rapidly. 'Israel' has all but destroyed all that via broadcasting LIVE to the whole world their various Crimes in Gaza & beyond Thus, it is only a matter of time till they cease to exist entirely courtesy of the loss of said 'mystique.'

or all this broadcast will only show the decay / racism of so-called 'international community' - I am skeptical that this mystique will evaporate rapidly ... elections in US / UK will show

Netanyahu's primary target is the people of Palestine, their land and the offshore gas fields.

The normalization aspect: when Obama apologized for strafing MSF's Kunduz Trauma Center with 70 3cm DU slugs/ sec, from 3 rotary cannons for hours. US & G20 media, belatedly, grudgingly, sorta covered it, eventually. NOW, good luck FINDING any of this via meta-search. Google's SEOd murdered Gaza Journalists down it's memory hole. A number of us TRIED to prove ourselves wrong about the 1st hospital JDAM hits & watching Israel simply make shit up, post it, take it down, Google disappear it, make up different shit, ALL night. Then, thousands of trolls jumped on. No US media coverage, until Likud decided the consensus lie. Honestly, when we'd post this pattern, years back, we'd be yelled at for conspiracy theory or antisemitism (though ~80% of the journalists doing this research, we're proud Jews?) To us in the States: if you substitute Black or Native genocide; Canary Mission progroms against politicians, lawyers, social service/ labor activists, scholars & journalists. Use of COVID to upwardly redistribute homes, 'retirement' savings & indenture labor, unleash Israeli trained spooks & MAGA Nazi cops... It's blatantly normalizing our subjugation? We're ALL Palestinians, centuries BEFORE Israel!

Caitlin: "It's my name, but it's really both of us, isn't it?" - the podcast really underscored it.

So commenters here complimenting Caitlin should switch to Caitlin/Tim. Maybe a catchy shortcut like TimCait or something.

It's so lovely to hear your voices together like this! (I'm an American writer who married a British writer under similar circumstances, so maybe we ought to start up a similar podcast? Nah! Who'd want to listen to us when there are you two online!!) I agree with you about how boring and horrible the game of Monopoly is and how it would be lovely to get rid of the greed and non-cooperativeness of capitalism. It truly is feeding imperialism, war, and genocide and so it must stop. Today. Thanks again for all your great posts and for helping those of us who are trying to keep healthy and sane in this mad world to do just that. We've all got to keep healthy and sane enough to help others along in their transformations as well. Power to the people! #FreeAssange #FreePalestine

LOL!!! Yeah, that's the best description of it--monotony. (If you ever played it with my older sister as the banker and how she ALWAYS had to have Broadway and Park Place, then you would have hated it on even more levels!)

Dear Caitlin and Tim,

I greatly looked forward to this podcast and liked it, of course. However, I became distressed during the talk by the sheer number of times you said these filler words: "like," "you know," "yeah, right," and found it so distracting, I decided to listen again and count these grammatical fidgets. Combining them, I quit counting at fifty. Caitlin, you said, "yeah" and "you know" more than Tim who uses "like" in the same way as do California teenage girls. [One time when a student was about to give a talk in front of a class without notes, just before she spoke, I told her she could not at any time in her talk say "like" or "you know." She was unable to speak.] I might add, "fuck" never enhances a point; it distracts and lessens it. If you say a sentence with it, then without it, you will see what I mean. I've seen this speaking mishap happen to other great journalists, Sy Hersh and Patrick Lawrence, for two. They can write beautifully, but should just write, not do an off-the-cuff interview or discussion. You know by now, Caitlin, what a fan I am of your incredible work. Your writing hits me, as hard as anyone I've ever read. It's stunning, like getting a kick in the stomach sometimes.

If you and Tim enjoy doing podcasts, please clean up your language so that you sound as brilliant as your readers know you are.

Rob Roy's avatar

I don’t know what "reflection of your own stuff" can possibly mean. Maybe you're used to talking that way yourself or hearing it so much you just don't notice it. If you want to hear another reporter in the same journalistic voice as Caitlin, Glenn Greenwald is on his Rumble show on week days, talks for at least an hour and never uses those grammatical fillers.

Paula's avatar

I love Glenn Greenwald, & if he doesn't fill in with "yeah," "like," "you know," he fills with "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand" in that horrible US nasal iiiiiiiiiiiiiind.

I love Caitlin's use of "fuck" when it's just the appropriate word. Shock, after long, elegant prose. Not filler.

Kristy Johnsson's avatar

It's natural to need to slow down your speech to be able to reflect and see what needs to be said at any given moment, and there's nothing most Americans hate more than an awkward silence.
