Because trees are intelligent beings in communication with one another and with tons of fungal partners in the soil. And somehow standing next to and atop and embracing all that brings me closer to being integral with it. Illusion? Reality? Some would argue that the tree produces weak electromagnetic fields that my fields interact with. But I bypass all that intuitively.
Yes Caitlin. The personal is political women like me discovered in the 70s. Bread and Roses song never more relevant. Keeping your heart open and connected to other loving beings human cats or trees is vital for health and resilience. I love your work. Especially that poem about the awkward dinner party mess of it all...love Julie
Being spirits in bodies, we endure whats bad and hopefully take comfort and satisfaction from the little things we find here --- which coincidentally are free ---- such as viewing a sunset (hopefully sky is not chemtrailed) enjoying flowers that are in bloom, taking delight in the laughter of children playing at a park ( hopefully they're not inside staring zombie-like at screens), and on and on. Yes, they wreck the good and aren't stopping, but we can outfox them.
My point is there is still good out there, inside or out. LOOK for it!
Mum sends me photos of bees. Bees she’s seen on a bushwalk, out and about. And it’s just a wonderful little grounding moment. Just a reminder of what is beautiful and worth fighting for. (Also a great palette cleanser after reading about anything Tony Abbott or Trump et al)
I firmly believe that a life of happiness involves giving oneself to work that builds a more morally aligned world. I believe American culture does itself a disservice in what it promotes as happiness, and what that hollows out.
I think you’re right to call for stories that show a pursuit of social justice does not mean a joyless life. We do our causes harm by believing suffering is the only path. It may be hard but so are many things that are deeply fulfilling and bring satisfaction.
I appreciate your post and gave to wonder if you have always been this way? I am full of rage for the inequities and injustices in the world- but I trust that God is in control- everything will come to fruition one day. I pray every night and keep all of the hopeless in my prayers- may God bring change to the hard-hearted. May love always gave the last word.
Try to let the rage go! Dont let it eat you and make you sick.
I struggle more with frustration, I think, but neither are good. And these demonic creatures throwing all this at us delight in our being stressed, etc....
Lots of Du'a (prayers) and remembrance (Zikr) of Allah Subhanwata'alah....God Almighty helps me.
Thank you my dear sister Caitlin for your powerful writings that you pour your heart into. You are amazing. May we all find peace in this upside down world!!
My two cats frolicking about bring me a lot of love and an awe of nature. Watching the butterflies and bees pollinating our crops are a source of a lot of smiles, too. We can't forget what we're fighting for--a loving world for all humanity. It's just really tough on some days when the headlines bring you down. Time for a kitty and garden break!

Yeah, I hear you about the planet, but I view this from a different angle: the work is not complete unless we have everyone else in mind. Of course, there are just evil people in the world, and they will never be anything else, but the work is not for them.
It's for the love of humanity, not necessarily every human being. The love of good.
It's difficult to be happy when my fellow brothers and sisters are going through so much suffering. When I don't know if a friend in Gaza has lived through the day or not, because I haven't heard from her. It makes me feel like a fraud. Not to say there are not moments of happiness, but the work is much greater than the planet, which has been here long before we were, and will be hear long after we're gone. Here, personal happiness moves out the way in the reach for contentness, even when shedding tears of immense sadness.
Highly recommend hugging a tree. With a beneficent attitude. A repeat tree partner if possible.
Vin, at one time I used to make fun of that. Since I've essentially thrown out all I thought I knew, please tell me why that's a good practice?

Food for thought. Okay
Thank you!

It’s the only way to remain sane is to compartmentalize. It’s not always easy, but, the other ways lies madness. 🥂
Hear ya, but keep in mind "Energy goes...where Consciousness goes"
Whatever consciousness even 𝙞𝙨, but that’s a fair observation, and I take your meaning.
In a world where forces of industry and empire are destroying life, the act of loving life is itself resistance. And vice versa.

World of beauty,
World of pain.
Keep it real!
Don't turn away.

I agree--Bees are really the bee's knees!

A very thoughtful and timely missive. Thank you, Caitlin.
