Friends and family don't always want to hear how evil this empire is, and no matter the slaughter in Palestine, most Israelis still go about their daily lives without knowing or caring what's happening right next to them. It's instilled from birth: "There's no such thing as Palestinians; they're just vermin that must be eliminated. WE are the chosen." The only time most Jews in Israel get upset is when they feel THEY are in danger of their lives changing. Keep up the good reporting, Caitlin and Tim.

This area has been depicted in such a " holy " light that objectivity has gone past the U - bend down the drain to be well - nigh irretrievable, unfortunately.

And those are the Zionists in Israel. Listen to this Jew who grew up in a Zionist home in the US:

The Vietnam War finally folded when student protests highlighted the growing return of US soldiers in body bags. It was then that the middle class parents joined the movement to end the wholesale slaughter. Where are the adults now? Why are they not visible in the protests regarding Gaza?

We're here. In fact, the older generations are the most numerous on the street corner demos in our town. We're unemployed and we don't care about being seen and "doxed" by potential employers. Nobody wants to hire a wrinkled and gray-headed person anyway, alas.

Lol, I am trying to get a nanny job on care.com and they literally sort us by age so parents can choose the age group they want their nanny to be in. You can't fight care.com, I tried years ago to get my age off my profile and now you can jump through hoops to hide it. Then recently I fought to get an old address off my background check that I paid for and fought care.com and Sterling, the background check company - I had to close down my account and start a new one! Then, I saw how they sort us by age and I haven't had the energy to investigate and fight that. I know I could sue but I'm old and tired! I am taking 4 early childhood education classes to boost my competitive disadvantage. My classes are almost over, I will see what happens next when I update my profile - honestly, I didn't learn a damn thing in these classes to help me be a nanny cause I'm a natural and all kids love me!

Expand full comment

I'm sorry you've been discriminated against in a career that you're a natural in. I can't tell you how many times I've been "asked my age" without directly being asked it. They can get you on "when did you graduate high school?" That one sinks me. I can get away with my college graduation year easier because I dropped out and got married at 20 and then went back to college in my 30s... and I look "good" for my age I'm told. But if I tell them when I graduated high school (and they can legally ask this question), they can do the math and get my exact age. Funny how I never get a call back after that interview question!

Expand full comment

The discrimination is rampant; when you fill out online applications you have to give out all your personal information, then the application goes into a black hole - most of those jobs on Indeed, etc. don't even exist I am told. Well, good luck to you too and thank you for taking the time to sympathize.

My Uncle who flew two tours, would proudly talk about dropping Napalm on villages watching the fire. TWO TOURS, then I knew the evil monsters of war. I thought after protesting Iraq, not finding weapons of mass destruction that would be the end, and then more and more and more war. It seems End Stage Capitalism demands it. Tony Blinky announced while still in China, banking sanctions are coming. Of course more war.

I agree with you. Ending the Vietnam War (which was a good thing) did not hinder the U.S. empire in the least. The rapacious megalomaniacs of the Deep State are crazy bastards, and they have no intention of losing.

Actually I'm pretty sure the Vietnamese people ended the Vietnam war by militarily defeating the United States.

If Trump were in power, he would already have called out the National Guard. We need another system of governance. Voting is just to make it look as if the elite are giving the proles their say.

Expand full comment

National Guard is being threatened with right now is it not? Also, Trump was calling for National Guard to be deployed during BLM riots - those were real riots, weren't they? - and no dice.

As to voting - of course. That's my stance for a long, long time. Cost me my relationship with Jeano "The Madame" here... 😉😀

Jeano changes from time to time, I think. She told me I was "disgusting" for saying "in our millions in our billions, we are all Palestinians". She just did not understand the chant that is chanted at most pro Palestinian demos.

"Jeano changes from time to time, I think" - well, I don't think so. She vacillates for a while but then strikes if the other's position is firm. And once she hates someone it's for good. Such is our Jeano, she requires total submission, that's why I dubbed her "The Madame".

The name calling is a counterproductive happening in these comments sometimes. I think it is best to ignore them. It is just people who don't know how to properly express themselves. Maybe too much social media.

This is such a great point…

"the president is an immoral Israel-coddling imperialist"

…. Ain’t that the truth? 'If Trump had won'… instead shitlibs are still saying that Biden is THE most empathetic president ever! Emphatic even though he’s supporting the genocide. And even though many of them are against what Biden is allowing Israel to do and giving them the bombs to do it, they are still going to vote for Biden anyway because of Trump. "Trump will be worse for Palestinians!' Well he might be, but by the time he wins most Palestinians will be dead because Biden allowed Israel to slaughter everyone in Gaza!

Expand full comment

Exactly. The "lesser evil" vote shaming argument doesn't work well when your "lesser evil" is simply doing "evil" by funding and arming Israel so it can commit a genocide. If everyone voted their conscience, they're wouldn't be all this "lesser evil" running things into the ground.

"It took half a year for that illusion to be dispelled. Half a year for people to really start going, “Oh shit. They’re really just going to keep these atrocities going. Nobody in charge cares about stopping this.”

It's taken way too long for the majority of people to wake up to this reality, IMO. I lost all illusions that the Biden Administration was going to do anything positive at all to end the genocide by about the third week. I wasn't even sure the first week, but I thought I'd give him a little wiggle room to say or do something to put a halt to it before the month was over. After all, Reagan called up Menachem Begin in 1982 and had him stop bombing Lebanon in less than 20 minutes. Go figure that every neolib's most hated president, Reagan, demonstrated more compassion than Genocide Joe!

But thank God for Gens Z, X, P, D, Q and all the rest who have taken to the streets and university campuses demanding an end to this forever! They will be long remembered for their consciences and compassion. The sociopaths will be forgotten, dead and buried. ( I just hope that day will come soon.)

There were certainly signs that Biden was going to sit by and watch this all unfold:

* $11 million from AIPAC, more than Schumer and McConnell COMBINED

* An old speech where he said "If there were no Israel, the United States would have to INVENT an Israel" (EMPHASIS in original)

* Filling his Cabinet with Zionists, including four of the five most high profile positions: State, Treasury, Justice, and DHS. He didn't put a Zio at Defense, but he DID tap a career military man, requiring a special exemption from Congress.

I do think the impetus for the protests was the passage of an additional $14 billion in Israeli military aid, without even considering placing conditions on it, or demanding that the Erez, Rafah, and Kerem Shalom (ironically, "Vineyard of Peace" in Hebrew) all be restored to pre-October operational levels, or calling for an independent investigation of war crimes allegations, or of the World Central Kitchen attack, or the Flour Massacre, or... or... or... or...
