War hawks should be sentenced to time in Ukraine where children are being press-ganged into war -and even then with little training. Perhaps 250,000 have been killed, many 15, 16 year-olds, and according to the way these things are calculated, 5 X that number have been wounded. The hospitals must be stinking with the smell of rotting flesh, and what about the mothers? They must be raving lunatics by now, I know I would be. Send the war hawks there. Let them tell bereaved mothers and fathers their version of the glory of war. I'd like to see that.
You consider war to be inevitable? Very good. Let everyone who advocates war be enrolled in a special regiment of advance-guards, for the front of every storm, of every attack, to lead them all!
They and their offspring should be given rifles and told to go fight these wars they say are so necessary themselves or at least as has been suggested restricting their income to that of the lowest ranked soldier.
Thanks Alexander—I love your anger. But I don’t want to give these jokers GUNS! God knows they’re crazy enough to use them. ‘Course, they’d be using them in their gated communities so maybe……
But I like the idea of taking their money—they used to be taxed at a 90% rate and also have such high taxes on what they left to their children (estate taxes) that they were forced to push their wealth back into the economy. The problem with that is they pushed it into Congress’s economy and literally bought our representative government, who in turn voted to lower the tax rates so more, thus closing this corrupt circle. It’s dispiriting but I’m not quitting going after them in any way I can, so I’m grateful for your thoughts and fire!
I have commented previously that narrative managers use the same tactic that used car salesmen use, of pretending that there is an agreement and you're just now deciding whether you want a nuclear war with just Russia or with Russia and China.
The head line reads: US Navy Wants to Turn Australia Into a Full-Service Submarine Hub
"Australia is expected first to purchase American Virginia class attack submarines, which will be delivered in the early 2030s."
Australia will then purchase a new British-designed submarine, called the SSN-AUKUS, that’s expected to arrive in the 2040s. The ultimate goal is for Australia to be able to build its own SSN-AUKUS submarines with US or British-provided nuclear propulsion. Over the next few decades, Canberra is expected to spend over $100 billion on the plan.
The submarines Australia will acquire are not expected to be armed with nuclear weapons, but that could always change. Either way, China views the submarine buildup as a provocation since the underwater craft will be used to patrol the waters of the South China Sea. The US also has plans to deploy more troops and aircraft to Australia as part of its buildup, including nuclear-capable B-52 bombers.
I was just watching an old video of mine that cited John Pilger's excellent article on Afghan women and the agency they had before 'our' war on burkas fucked it up. Yours is an agenda we should all be paying attention to, Caitlin. It's horrible how Australia is being used.
You are right, Tereza. Australia is being used. Easy too. We've been used since our initial landing on this land under the control of the British, which lasted until 1945. Then on with the USA, boots and all.
Your admiration for the likes of John Pilger is very understandable. He is well travelled and qualified.
We seem to have a government worthy of its name for three years and then on with a bunch of ne'er-do-wells for the next 6 years. Hard to progress going one step forward and two backwards.
We'll keep trying and working our way through floods, bushfires and American warmongering and hopefully will collect a group of representatives worthy of their salaries who put their country first.
Sitting here in downtown Sydney preparing to head home to the US tomorrow morning. Seen TV News all this week about confronting China. I keep asking myself, confront them for what? Making peace between Iran & KSA? So sad the vassalation disease that has clearly infected Europe, especially Germany, has found its way to Australia & New Zealand. Keep up the great work Caitlin. #EndTheEmpireOfLies #AbolishNATO
And fear. Sic our CIA on most any country and it can be taken down. The jackals in South America perfected their craft. Allende the saddest. Then thru Bushwacking the US we got Clinton and T-rump and Neolib-cons. After that, Macron—the Obama of France. They have isolated Sanchez in Spain because he’s a socialist. They messed with Merle until she caved. Norway? Norway had quislings during WW 2 so it’s not hard for them to support Nazi’s now. How Sweden succumbed, I’ll never know but accusing Assange for the Empire pretty much sealed their fate. And of course England—ahh England. Thatcher and Blair. Mini America. Who knew.? And now they’re after the Aussies. This Western Worldwide swing to corporate capitalist fascism comes straight from the Powell Memo, implemented by the security state and kowtowed to by a population so yupped up it can’t pass a Nordstrom’s without looking in the display window to see if their hair is perfect. Mary: Money.
No. Not money, Jerry, but history under the control of imperial Britain until 1945, responding to their every demand, bowing to Kings and Queens of England from 1788 onwards
Then after WWII, a vassal state of the USA, thinking that made us safe and secure. Dancing to all the US illegal wars in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and now gearing up for a stouch with Taiwan and/or China. It’s the way we are. White, Christian, Anglo Saxon,. A servile state with not even a semblance of an independent foreign policy, anywhere.
As Malcolm Fraser (PM Australia, 1975-1983) pointed out very succinctly in his Gough Whitlam (PM Australia 1972-1975) Oration in 2012, “unconditional support (for the US) diminishes our influence throughout East and South-East Asia”. Telling the Chinese that they are our most valued trading partner while blocking their investments and accepting US Marines in Darwin to contain their influence is not sustainable. It is quite bizarre and quite contrary to developing sound relations with China that we think that we can “run with the hares and hunt with the hounds” like this. It will inevitably catch up with us.
For some reason, we are just too naive and immature to see into the future. But we will grow up one day. I just hope it is before our 150 million dollar fleet of nuclear submarines operated by a country of 25 million people decides to frighten the living daylights out of 1.4 billion Chinese.
Just another orchestrated US war game.
Fortunately, I won't be around to see this sideshow.
My SWAG is that it's nothing so crude in most cases, but more like Noam Chomsky's takedown of Andrew Marr: "if you believed any different, you wouldn't be where you are."
Oe would have to imagine that in Australia's case it is under the mistaken impression that the US is there to come to the aid of all the little countries that it controls in the case of a war.
No such agreement exists as it does with NATO puppets. The Australian puppet is on its own with 25 million people against China's 1.4 billion in a warlike environment created by the US. My maths is somewhat rusty but is China 41 times larger in population than Australia.?
The reason for the "going along with this madness" in my opinion is the old practice of building up western "white" power. Yes, the US will have bases all over South East Asia soon, (threats and sanctions being the currency), .....just wait and see, but the AUKUS agreement, is Australia, the UK and the USA.
The old team, white, anglos, christian. Shades of the old colonial days where once it was the British who made the running until 1945, it has been clearly the US since then.
Australia as normal, just tagging along........Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan etc., doing what it is told. Par for the course.
Try getting a letter published in the so called liberal press expressing an opposing point of view here in Oz. It ain't going to happen. They stay on the Washington/London/wef message and don't want any dissent on their pages. Paid for stooges brainwashing the educated middle class into more compliance. Oz at war with China . Give me a break. The hierarchy here performing the Globalists function as useful idiots.
Yep and the Peace movement is just about dead in the US....the "righteous" Democrats wave Ukrainian flags...I no longer align with any political cult..I mean party.
I agree with you, since people for what ever the reason don't want to see what and who he was and they still don't, nor do they see the droner and chief in realistic terms.
Gasp! I wonder how Russia Russia Racheal Madcow will survive this turn of events. I cut the cable many moons ago so I don’t know what she’s saying lately to stay “relevant” and get her $40,000 an hour for propping up the Empire “from the Left”, but this one is going to be hard for even she-of-twisted-brain-and-tongue. Thank you Caitlin for saying with such fire and decency what Americans are no longer capable of even comprehending. We live in Upside Down World here, since Bush The Dumber, and are only just now starting to think “Ahhhh, what?”
What this piece is missing is the Hermann Goring quote
(?)
“Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America nor, for that matter, in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship. ... [V]oice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”
Thank you. This is excellent information. And I’ll add, not all the “people” are spineless burgher, bourgeois, yuppies. Aka, the Sheeple. You can turn the Sheeple as Göring said, but there is at least 10% of any population that can’t be turned. For whatever reason. Assange is that. Snowden is that, Manning. Pablo Neruda. And hundreds of unsung women all over the world fighting for the environment. Most of them are tortured or killed but generally disappeared so that we who are awake feel so isolated and afraid it’s hard to do anything but search in the dark for likeminded friends, let alone get organized. But Caitlin stepped up, and this commentary and dialog she’s provided is empowering. And the 10% is starting to shake it off and get back in the ring—and the Görings—well, look what happened to him. Evil does triumph, but only for so long.
I blame the US for what is going on in Australia and elsewhere. Perhaps if people had payed more attention, shown more outrage toward our middle eastern wars and condemned the US for it's repetitive carnage we wouldn't be on such a war footing with Russia, or China, and the threat of a nuclear war. I not only blame those we have elected into office, but a complicit media who peddles war as well. It's sickening to watch Biden and his kind push for climate change, yet pushes an agenda that could kill all life on this planet forever.
Thank you Fran. You’re posts are a light in the dark for me. And you’re right—the toxic masculinity of some posters here, who think they are the “gatekeepers” of CAITLIN’S space is almost laughable. I got caught up in one where I thought I was debating but it turned out he was more like the 7th graders I used to teach who’s final comments usually come down to “well, you…” Caitlin’s only directive for this space as far as I’ve seen is she won’t let this be turned into a Jew-hating space so don’t even try, she says! 👌. I loved what you said, and your lips to the Goddess’s ear, we’ll get back to that kind of civic engagement. And PROBABLY thru global warming protests!!!
Thanks Jean, he no doubt is insensitive enough that he doesn't even realize he comes off as a bully. At one time I also taught 7th grade, science, and really liked that age level. Still curious, What bothers me most about climate change deniers is that they know almost nothing about the subject and much of what they say to disclaim it is not factual based. Unfortunately Biden is not the one to be selling us the truth of it. You don't deal with this issue during a pandemic and when people are hurting financially. Personally I don' t think Biden gives a damn about this subject. The 20th century was called the century of the environment, yet across the country it wasn't introduced into the educational curriculum on all levels. Maybe in some places, but not in NY.
It doesn't work that way because people don't stand up, they just go along to get along as they say. I bet if people poured out of their houses in protest things would change. You also need an independent press which was totally sabotaged through the years, and are now in almost total complicity with what ever big government wants. It is no more then a propaganda tool used by the government, and didn't the four years of Trump prove that.
The U.S. is so weak, it's like the lion in "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber" by Ernest Hemingway. Gut-shot and dying, it saves the last of it's energy for one, final spring to maul those around it.
We lose practically every war we are in: Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan.
We smash up people's lives and go back to our vast carelessness.
When I was a teen, the national debt was one trillion dollars. Now, it is $31.6 trillion. We print money and inflate away the savings of elderly people.
We're dying in record numbers due to the shot. Follow "Died Suddenly" on twitter.
But, as Caitlin points out, we're great at propaganda!
I've been following the remarks of various psychologists on sociopaths. Although they are only 1 to 4% of the population at the most, and usually can't get any traction in a small town because everyone learns who they are and minimizes them, on a global scale, they get into positions of power, like Biden.
Who knew that in 2020 we would be in a proxy war with a nuclear power, and picking a fight with another?! It seems insane, even for sociopaths like Joe Biden, Victoria Nuland, Lindsey Graham, etc.
John Pilger has been a voice of reason for decades. The increased noise around the need for war is because these same hawks recognize that their goals are soon to fail. Folks are rising up all over. Waiting for the US citizens to join the fight against war. Then we'll see substantive change...
I am wondering are there any legitimate polls done in Australia to know how the people there are actually reacting to this? Years of propaganda have probably taken a toll but aren't there still some sane people there? Is your media controlled as ours is? No independent news organisations that state the truth? I know how they have corrupted most every government around the world but Australia is a big country!
Actually I think in a remotely sane world, such monsters would NOT be driven from human civilization to die cold alone in the wilderness. It's hard to conjure a truly sane world from here, but I think in such a world such "monsters" would be rare, and pitied--they wouldn't be driven out, the rest of society would try to heal them. If found impossible, they might have to be locked up with the rest of the incurably insane, but treated well..
This is lovely. I too believe that healing is the way forward. It seems to me that China just demonstrated that with this peace deal. I KNOW the war mongers will now be busy trying to sabotage this deal, sending saboteurs into Yemen and Lebanon to try to keep Saudi Arabia and Iran blaming each other, because if their war ends, there go Raytheon’s profits and there goes Biden’s oil. And there goes the petrodollar, hense our economy and Craven Canada’s too, and all the poor chicken littles will then HAVE to look up. Opps.
They have been doing the same in Europe, with both the European political mis-leaders and the media repeating this false narrative and battering it into the minds of the people. Successfully.
Western civilization has always glorified war, especially Hollywood. Written western history is mostly about war or palace intrigue. This is what happens with patriarchy... imbalance of yin and yang, the masculine and feminine sides of each person. Time to promote PEACE and COOPERATION and KINDNESS!
Love Tolkien! Started reading him in the 70s as a teen. Read the trilogy many times since. So you speak Spanish? How long in Nicaragua? I lived in Chile over four years. So you are a freedom and independence lover, a free spirit?

God, please, help us all.
Thanks, I share your articles with many Americans who are so weary of its policies.
What is all this “don’t talk” crap. Seems like the meme of the day. Get over yourselves!
Excellent article!
Western civilization has always glorified war, especially Hollywood. Written western history is mostly about war or palace intrigue. This is what happens with patriarchy... imbalance of yin and yang, the masculine and feminine sides of each person. Time to promote PEACE and COOPERATION and KINDNESS!
O I LOVE this! It gives me a morning meditation. Thank you.
Love Tolkien! Started reading him in the 70s as a teen. Read the trilogy many times since. So you speak Spanish? How long in Nicaragua? I lived in Chile over four years. So you are a freedom and independence lover, a free spirit?
