We are in strange times, good thing we have Caitlin to keep us on track with what is really going on.
*The Fenimore Cooper essay is a delight if previously missed. I hadn't really liked the author and had to go have a look at the book after I saw the Twain critique (and fiction writing lesson). As someone who grew up with muzzleloading, camping and hunting in my family, yes, Mark Twain is not wrong.
The number one writing rule is sound - write what you know about.
A sound dialogos remains the greatest tool for fostering and cultivating that inner voice of reason among others. Good stuff.
John: I mean yeah, if the CCP doesn't do it to us first. Did you know they're trying to take over the world?
Jane: They are?
John: Oh yeah! The Chinese want to take over the world and give us all a social credit score so we'll all think the same.
My favourite response: Have you looked at a map of the world? How many military bases does China have around the world? How many does the US have? How many of the US bases are around China’s perimeter?
Latest from Germany: In April of this year, Ursula Haverbeck, 93 years of age, was sentenced by the Berlin Regional Court to one year in prison without the possibility of of parole.
A prison sentence was "without alternative," the presiding judge of the Berlin Regional Court stated at that time in the pronouncement of the verdict. Not even a sentence of two and a half years in prison, which had already been served previously, would have Ursula impressed. "There is nothing that can stop you." Ursula, of course, appealed against this verdict. Today it became known that the Berlin Court of Appeal has rejected the appeal. Despite Ursula's high age (93 years), the court also ruled out a suspended sentence because Ursula had not shown any repentance or remorse.
Ursula's crime = she has only requested the court to provide proof of the Holocaust. Evidence was refused to her. For this repeated question she is now going to prison for the second time.
The prosecution announced that they would try to put Ursula behind bars again this fall.
Why complain about China - the terror is right infront of our doorstep.
Before I could respond to JM, the thread was disappeared because the initial poster was banned. I suspect the same might happen to you, with your chosen name doing you no favors.
And I say this with a very sad heart, because Caitlin's blog is one of my favorites and the place where I have the most interesting conversations. It also gets my blog the subscribers most likely to stick, because they don't bail when the political gets spiritual or the spiritual gets political. And yet I think that Caitlin should ban me also. I too am guilty of the thought crime of questioning the official narrative of the Holocaust.
The more I learn, the less I know. And the less I think I know, the more I learn. Anytime a question is forbidden, to me, it's a tell for where I need to look.
In my last episode, CJ Hopkins & the New Normal Reich, I look at the Weimar hyperinflation as an act of genocide against the German people. It was also a miniature of the Great Reset. Food was too expensive for Germans, their coal was being exported under foreign guards for debt repayment, and under the Rentenmark (mortgage mark) their mortgages were reinstated at 25 billion times their value in the mark in which they got the loan. The only possible outcome would be to turn them into starving, freezing, homeless refugees that no other country would take in. Death for them and unoccupied homes for non-Germans or wealthy landlords.
As economist Henry CK Lui writes: The Nazis came to power in Germany in 1933, at a time when its economy was in total collapse, with ruinous war-reparation obligations and zero prospects for foreign investment or credit. Yet through an independent monetary policy of sovereign credit and a full-employment public-works program, the Third Reich was able to turn a bankrupt Germany, stripped of overseas colonies it could exploit, into the strongest economy in Europe within four years, even before armament spending began.
Today, as we all become Weimar, the only country to successfully repudiate the bankers has become the universal symbol of evil, that we can't talk about without being attacked as Hitler-apologists, white supremacists, anti-Semites. Doesn't that seem strange to you?
And to answer JM's question in the other thread of how the term anti-Semitic is applied to anyone who questions the moral inferiority of Germans: Ursula lived through WWII. The official narrative says that she and her generation 1) killed 6 million innocent civilians, 2) committed heinous atrocities including death camps, gas chambers and torture, and 3) were motivated by greed, racism and a desire for global domination. If they didn't do these things personally, they looked the other way.
Ursula is one of the people we're not only allowed to hate, but compelled by law to see as deluded by monsters or a monster herself. Are the condemned, while there's one living witness, not entitled to a trial where the evidence is presented against them before we consign them to hell? Must we be considered anti-Semitic to consider whether this is the only war about which we've been told the truth, and it's pure coincidence that the sacrosanct victims and the bankers happen to be related?
Bravo. Question everything. Nothing is sacrosanct. If the truth is not on your side then open debate, not censorship, will be your most effective opponent.
BTW, I'm curious where you would draw the line? It seems you'd be okay if your home address was published on a blog that is engaged in selecting targets for Ukraine's overseas Nazi diaspora, and I find that extremely unlikely.
Sorry, JM, I'm not following your logic here. I'm not for anyone's home being targeted by anyone. Are you looking to provide an example of when censorship is justified?
This sounds strangely stupid all around. There's plenty of evidence around, entire museums and libraries full of books about that topic. Why is it the court's job? Sounds like a waste of time. Further, that country has very, very strict rules about holocaust denial. However, gotta say I think Ursula needs a therapist more than she needs a prison cell. Locking her up does nothing to help anyone.
I tend to agree, on the stupid that is German Bureaucracy, on Ursula's choice to feign ignorance, and the most stupid thing, but mostly the belief that being jailed will change her mind (all it did for old mustache was give him time to put his hate in writing). If intentional ignorance is a crime, who's left to be a jailor? They jail this old woman, and not any of the leaders of their right wing organizations because they can.
The 'problem' is, that the digital technology is intrinsically totalitarian. It is not even its 'goal' to exert absolute control. It comes along with it, as one of its characteristics. And there is neither any dependency on some form of political or order of life, nor a if the enterprise to implement and 'run' it is private or 'public', with the clandestine underbelly of what is called 'public', but is controlled by organized power.
You might 'like' it or not, since the digital technology rests on formal logic and logistic since Aristoteles hermeneutics and investigations about the linguistic form of the proposition, the technology is 'only' a physical or lingual (programming languages) implementation of, it must be conceded that it is exact science that is intrinsically totalitarian.
The firece resistance of old mountain or jungle civilizations against modernity and modernization, always denounced as irrational, has its reasons in the perception that the 'telos' of modernity is the liquidation of the concept of ('wo)man' that is the foundation of all premodern civilizations.
All this is not due to the scheming of sinister and treacherous leaders or elites. It is simply the consequence of all the achievements of the species homo sapiens, of the integral of all the successful attempts of the species to escape the hazards of the environment regarded to be hostile to the selfpreservation of the species, an urge invested by evolution of life in all of life, as its typical antientropic orientation, finally surrendering to entropy, with the delay of the trick of individuation, and the succession of generations with a restricted life span, to prolong the existence of the species.
The 'problem' here is, that the species has managed to escape the external control factors that were the guarantee for an equilibrium that held the consequences of its actions in check.
And the 'problem' this creates consists in the attempt to control it by means of more science, control, escape devices etc. It needs more control. The utmost if control is absolute control. This will transfer the hazards to the possible failure of a device that exerts absolute control, and it will concentrate everything on this breaking point, while the backfire effect is the denigrstion of individual life to be either object or agent of absolute control, in a hierarchy of control with the lowest position in the chain at the bottom of the pyramid absolute powerlessness, the individual just a cost factor in an economy of absolute control, similar to the intrinsic projects of plans to colonize Mars or Moon mainly supported by 'intelligent' machines and 'autonomous' robots with 'machine learning' capabilities.
It is the telos of the peculiarities of 'the intelligence' of the species, giving itself over to absolute denigrstion in exchange for shelter while the 'needs' of the species are extended with insatiable expectations.
The limit the laws of thermodynamics limiting the sun/planet/moon-system open to the vacuum, the species finds as the condicio of its existence.
So the ultimate control is still external and executed by the laws of thermodynamics. Be sure they are not open for free trade agreements.
The friend/enemy schema the cannibal predators are so obsessed with are in truth another control mechanism regulated by the laws of thermodynamics as far as conflicts rest (!) on the laws of thermodynamics that limit any 'economy'.
So for human beings not so much concerned with the imbecile idiot homo sapiens, there is not much to worry about the demise of the macroparasite. It was only homo sapiens, a plague of the planet.
This can be demonstrated as follows: Mars, Earth and Venus attend and interplanetary meeting. In a teapause Venus asks Earth: "How are things going?" Earth replies: "Not so good lately, I caught homo sapiens."
An organism infected by a malign micropsrasite raises temperature and inundates its system with floodings to wash out the parasite.
Don't tell me 'we' need to 'save the planet'. It is as if the virus of the current pandemia would recruit itself to be the savior of the organism he is preying on.
Epic! Please post this on SubSTACK ASAP. From the beginning I’ve repeated the quote - “we have met the enemy and it is us.” We have a great deal to figure out and change.
Thanks for the kind reply. We might be brothers in arms for this conflict. "We have met the enemy and it is us", is a great sentence. Compact, precise, immediately evident. (As für your recommendation to publish on substack, I will have to find out how to copy the text. Might take a while.) I appreciate your reply dearly. 🙏💚🌿
Yes, We need to ask SubStack to make it easier to copy and paste our text from comments. I've learned the hard way to write a post rather than a long comment. Not always fun but necessary, lol.
Clever but confusing for too many. Your point appears to support your main thesis that the Evil Empire is making China look bad through their propaganda. The power to control citizens has never been greater regardless of the country. China is ruthless in their application of control just as the U.S. has become. The common thread is technology and its control of a citizens money. Once the government has the ability to turn you off, prevent access to your bank account they have the power to label you an "enemy of the state" or "enemy of the people" or racist, etc.. In Rome when a citizen was labeled an "Enemy of the State", it was analogus to treason and death was the punishment, and in some cases citizens weres authorized to not only kill the person in question but anyone providing asistance or shelter. China has us by the balls, they make just about everything we need to sustain modern society and we provided them with the technology and tools to be our masters. This has nothing to do with the Chinese people or Americans but government power and the citizens historical reluctance to hold their power in check until it's too late.
I find it comical when I get a reply that misses the point. So I guess you never judge or compare yourself to anyone. I didn’t claim anything about my superiority or inferiority with anyone else but to deny the variation in knowledge, intelligence, apathy and even evil intent is to deny reality.
You must not have gotten past the first sentence which appears to have struck a defensive nerve and for that I humbly apologize.
I know that John here is sadly misinformed and it's no surprise that he'd also get this wrong, but with that said: the day that someone as imperialistic as Vaush qualifies as a lefty will be the day that there's less difference between left and right than ever.
I don't quibble with the obedience training in the US. And yet ... I am worried that China owns most of our Treasury bills which, with the petrodollar plummeting, will be worth less than gum wrappers EXCEPT for US real estate--residential properties, farmland, businesses. Saudi's going for the corporate stocks but much of our oil reserves have already been given to China by Biden. I don't see them just walking away from the US trade deficit we've been racking up for decades.
You are worried about China owning the fictional pyramid scheme known as Treasury Bills? I'm pretty sure the monetary wonks in China are even more worried, that's part of the drive behind the Belt and Road, China is off loading those treasuries to nations to build their infrastructure so they can in turn pay off their USA debt while China spins down its holdings. If you live in America, then you probably should worry more about them stopping to buy them.
It means that China's government has decided to take the hit on employment that will come about when they stop participating in the pyramid scheme. All the things China makes for the USA including pharmaceuticals will become exceedingly rare and much more expensive 3rd party imports. The USA will have to pay in gold or other hard fungible commodities for all those bases overseas, so the trained killers will have to come home, unemployed, to roost once the gold stolen from Iran, Russia, and Venezuela is used up. Oh, I can see many, so many dark things coming if/when the Chinese stop imbibing the fiction.
We agree, JM, that the end of the US consuming without producing is coming to an end. Will that be dark? It will certainly be a painful transition for those of us who make nothing but money. But it may result in us taking back our labor from the bankers/ vulture capitalists (venture, vulture, same diff). Without the bribe of our share of the spoils of conquest, we may not put up with having our homes held hostage unless we serve the rich.
Interesting about China using its dollars to enable other nations to pay down their US debt. What Russia is offering is a way for those countries to walk away from dollarized debt and not impact their global trade with non-NATO countries. Since that's 80% of the world and 100% of the producer nations, we're definitely screwed. Yet I think we can wonder if China's leaders are looking at this as a strategic long-term move without being a 'Jane.'
If anything, that makes decoupling harder for China, unless they want to hold billions in now-worthless paper and which the United States can abrogate on a whim.
He assumes he owns Washington, and Washington assumes it owns MBS and Saudi Arabia. They both only needs to jostle with all the other co-owners. Sometimes one group wins, other times they lose: it's normal (we're just the synthetic turf they play upon).
Russia and China really are another ball of wax, because unlike Saudi Arabia, they are, just by existing, an absolute threat to USA hegemony and the people who own that hegemony. IMO, they have already broken it, and what we see is just damage control. Simple test: Why hasn't the USA succeeded in overthrowing Venezuela's government?
It's hard to put a butter knife between the skins of Israel and the House of Saud these days, I suspect it's been so ever since Ibn, and certainly since Fasil. The retoric is just some of that push and shove, like rugby in the school yards of public school England. Someone gets the trophy for the day, but they all go to the same dinning hall, serviced by the same servants, whom all agree we're getting less and less tasty to consume, but can't find other eats.
Oh, would you PLEASE learn Modern Monetary Theory (MMT)! Most of what you have written reveals your deep misunderstanding of the monetary system, which MMT describes.
You can start with Stephanie Kelton's book, The Deficit Myth, which you can find at your local library. If they don't have it, try Interlibrary Loan. She also has some great videos on YouTube about MMT.
Also, you can watch The Rogue Scholar, Macro'n'Cheese, or MMT Mondays by Real Progressives on YouTube to learn MMT. They break it down for you. It's not hard to understand.
Every left-leaning person needs to understand Modern Monetary Theory clearly so that you can protect yourself from the lies that the politicians use to manipulate us, relying on our ignorance.
Are you saying, Susan, that the US economy now runs on MMT? I'm talking about the existing system, not the one we'd like to replace it. My book, How to Dismantle an Empire, uses a version of MMT from Michael Hudson's work and Ellen Brown's on public banking. But I'm not an expert so if MMT says that bankers aren't currently creating 94% of US money through mortgage debt, please give me a reference because Hudson and Brown disagree.
I wouldn't describe myself as left-leaning, I'm not sure how I gave you that impression. What China uses, as I understand it, is a form of MMT, which makes their foreign trade into a surplus for their treasury while the labor is paid in their own self-generated currency. I think we should be doing the same, although my focus is small scale sovereignty not 1B+ people.
But I don't see the Chinese gov't saying, hey, we've supplied you with goods on credit for the last several decades and now the bills of credit are worthless except for within the US. We'll just let bygones be bygones and keep making your stuff for free. We won't use our surplus to buy your homes, your companies, your oil--we'll just call those reserves Biden gave us a gift.
The MASSIVE wealth being accumulated in China and the treatment of those in their internal colony of Guangdong makes me think that benevolence is not the goal.
You might want to read Professor Michael Hudson's "Super Imperialism", which explains the economics of US Empire post 1971, which is MMT but only for MIC-IMATT.
Once again, someone immediately leaps into a response without bothering to read any of the material. If you had, you wouldn't have said this.
Nothing "runs on" MMT. It's an empirical study of how a fiat currency works, just like a scientist does an empirical study of a microorganism by looking at it in a microscope. Would you then say that science "runs on" microscopes?
Neither Michael Hudson nor Ellen Brown are MMT economists. There are many people out there who run on about MMT without, as I said, actually bothering to study it.
Since MMT describes fiat currency economies, I don't know how it would apply to the Chinese situation, since I don't know if they have a fiat currency.
From your comments, I infer that you get your information from mainstream sources. I recently read an article about China's successful effort to end deep poverty in the most remote rural areas. Among other things, they created sister-city projects, linking the wealthy coastal cities with impoverished rural villages in western China.
Susan, my feeling is that you want to prove you're more intelligent than me and let me concede that point right now! Clearly you have a lot of knowledge from reading these books and listening to these YTs. But your argument says, "MMT proves you're wrong and until you read and watch these videos, I can't be bothered to explain why."
The original assertion of mine, to which you responded, is that China owns US treasury bills which can be used to buy things in the US--like residential homes, corporations, farmland, commercial property--no matter what their international trade value becomes. Could you please explain to me, in your own words, why MMT either shows that's wrong or that it's not a potential problem for those who live in the US, if the petrodollar loses value abroad?
Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, Venezuela, and all have had their central banks USD foreign reserves, i.e.: treasury bonds seized(sleazed). I had assumed you were aware of that but missed the meaning, hence my initial comment about China being worried. Now I think I may have assumed wrong, my bad. A further FYI, Iran and Venezuela have had assets of state corporations, most famously Citco, sleazed/sleazed. The USA has even had the temerity to seize and sell Russian diplomatic property, an outright international crime, equivalent to invading sovereign territory. Hence China knows now it's a fools errand to invest inside the USA, exasperating trade/financial deficits, and thus Belt and Road as way to recycle US Treasuries into assets such as good will and more freedom from US hegemony. The only thing that China would buy now in the USA is things that can be removed to China, such as education for Chinese people (but this assumes USA won't inter Chinese in Camps ala Japanese), IPR license, etc. Individual Chinese may continue to buy property, hoping against logic that racism won't rear it's ugly head and they too be dispossessed. That, ala Japanese Americans, has an ugly outlook too.
Those are interesting ideas, JM, and I don't dismiss them. Certainly all those seizures of assets, bank accounts, Citgo, and gold are why countries are divesting of dollars slowly enough to not crash it until the oligarchs cash out, and then it will freefall.
I do read Hudson frequently, and used his work in my book and in 2-3 episodes of my YT/ SS. I'm not sure that the US has enough of the upper hand (or interest) in keeping China or wealthy Chinese from using investment firms to buy up properties. But I could be wrong.
If you think propaganda supporting the U.S.'s stupid proxy war with Russia, or China's mass murdering spree and social credit score system is bad, read this:
It is disturbing to note that the greater portion of the public do not seem to be aware of the vast ideological movement for social transformation called the Great Reset. Those who are at least partially informed consider it merely another conspiracy theory. Some among the so-called elite—the media, the academy, the political stratum—consider the Great Reset as a rational and benevolent response to the specter of overpopulation and the threat of populist uprisings. Others among the patrician class, doubtless a majority, are engaged in promoting what they know to be a concerted attempt to destabilize and supplant the long-established order of ideally democratic governance that has slowly and incrementally characterized the liberal societies of the West, dating from the Magna Carta (1215) and the Peace of Westphalia (1648) to the approximate present.
We should make no mistake about this. The revolutionary project, whether denominated as the New World Order, the U.N.’s Agenda 2030, or the Davos-centered Great Reset—different terms for essentially the same impetus—under the influential leadership of Klaus Schwab is apocalyptic in its aims. It envisages a world in which the middle-class will have been expunged, the global census markedly winnowed, and a China-like social credit system introduced in which citizens will be under constant digital surveillance determining what they are allowed to possess, rent, use or spend.
This is far too accurate to be funny. I mean, I've literally seen you have this conversation on Twitter. Multiple times. People are so damn weird.
It ain't fiction when it's real. 🤔
*It's satire - really excellent satire.
The best satire is hard to distinguish from the genuine article.

I wonder when people like John will notice that the Chinese always look like they want to pat us on the head? And what do they think that indicates?
It would be better if they (or anyone for that matter) used a slap upside the head instead. The only impact the US might understand.
Yeah, but the Chinese are polite to a fault.

Thank you Caitlin, brilliant as always
Government is but a slave to their owners.
One for all and all for one!
This is really contemptuous of your fellow citizens: "clever but too confusing for too many." Who are you to judge?
Take the advice of the Desiderata: "Do not compare yourself with others, for there will always be greater and lesser persons than yourself."
Those who are arrogant are rarely aware that they're doing it, so I guess I'm reflecting back to you something that you haven't seen.
And you're condescending to me in this reply. 😚
Thanks for gatekeeping!
Satirical humour is a delight to read. Of course it isn’t real, is it!

Anti-Trump FBI Squad Put In Charge Of Mar-A-Lago Raid – Jimmy Dore Aug. 20, 2022

I know that John here is sadly misinformed and it's no surprise that he'd also get this wrong, but with that said: the day that someone as imperialistic as Vaush qualifies as a lefty will be the day that there's less difference between left and right than ever.
That was part of the general satire.
Very clever. I hope everyone reading understands what you are doing here. :O)
That John guy is so fucking stupid! I want to meet up with Jane though.
This is simply an excellent description of our own society. WUNDERBAR. Thank you
I don't quibble with the obedience training in the US.
Did you read the article? hahaha
If anything, that makes decoupling harder for China, unless they want to hold billions in now-worthless paper and which the United States can abrogate on a whim.
That's why MBS' U.S. spending spree baffles me.
Edit: stupid autocorrect.
Unless Israel decides that the Saudi regime stands in its way....
One hell of a bet to make. Admittedly, the Kingdom is sitting on vast dollar holdings that has to do something with it.
What's "MMT-IMATT"?
Good question, I think. What is it. I only know the nouns described by the acronyms, MMT and MIC-IMATT
I'm asking for the noun behind MIC-IMATT. Could you give a general description?
When I find the link, I'll come back and post it.
It sounded pretty benevolent to me.
IMO, MMT doesn't explain it.
Interesting times ahead.
