a society that punishes or silences people for using their voice to oppose mass killing not just some abstract injustice, but real, ongoing atrocities affecting real human lives then “freedom” was always just a story we told ourselves. The measure of freedom isn’t how loudly we can cheer when we echo the powerful, it’s how unashamedly we can stand up when we disagree with them, especially when the stakes are life and death. That discomfort you feel when confronting what your government does politically, morally, silently, or in your name isn’t confusion, it’s your conscience. And if silence is easier than speaking truth to power, then we already lost the freedom we thought we had

Why are people surprised now? Were they hibernating for the past 50+ years? Frank Zappa knew. As did Malcolm X and few others. The "west" was always a genocidal, thieving, racist, zionist, and fascist ideology. People in the west just lived in an illusion of "freedom and democracy". Something like matrix. It was all a BIG lie and illusion from the most evil, destructive, supremacist, anti-human system that ever existed - "western civilization" aka "empire of lies".

Nana Baakan Agyiriwah's avatar

"The "west" was always a genocidal, thieving, racist, zionist, and fascist ideology."

Well said Nick, and I would add a few hundred years to your 50+ and then take it back further to anywhere among the human societies where Empire building was the driving force.

It's the nature of Empire for the most part.

Western societies got really good at Empire building by creating the "illusion of "freedom and democracy" and then maintained this illusion with divide and conquer strategies. Thus the plebs would fight amongst themselves and never see that the same boot was on their necks.

Nana I fully agree. 500+ years for sure and their supposed "discovery" of American continents. I only was referring to humans living today and the modern sophisticated methods of lying.

Folk need to do some serious waking up re what's what... the big problem is where to start, where is the entrance to the maze, and why is its journey a requirement ?

Heres a place to start that journey, so You have an idea of what We are dealing with:

just because it wears the current recognised "suit" does not mean that whatsoever inside is the same as You or me, or any others that You Intuitively recognise to be of Your Own kind..

manipulation of this important distinction is what has Humanity aimlessly flailing about in a ( valid ) state of distress wondering how the fuck to deal with this problem...

There is ABSOLUTELY no parallel between the 1989 Tiananmen square protests and Gaza anti-genocide protests. The western press called Tiananmen square protests "massacres" yet murdering of tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians (20,000 children alone) is israel's "self-defense". The empire of lies has no and never had any credibility or integrity and all what is left is LIES and only LIES of the rotting empire.

Mary's avatar

I was just surmising that they can't arrest us all. But they could gun us down while protesting. That's the only parallel I was drawing.

Nick Douglas's avatar

They will gun us down if necessary. All they need is go-ahead command from their supreme leader - Netanyahu.

Hi Nick and Mary

I don’t know where y’all reside. BUT any AmeriKKKan who isn’t presently a firearms owner needs to get there right quick before they become unavailable to the public.

I own guns to protect myself from the GOVERNMENT.

AnalogMan's avatar

“ I own guns to protect myself from the GOVERNMENT.”

Can you explain to me how this works? I’m being serious, I’ve heard this line from gun owners since forever and it has never made sense to me. If the idea is “they’ll never take me alive and at least I’ll take out a few of the government’s minions before they get me” then ok, that’s a strategy where you accept the reality that you’ll never be able to outgun the government and you’ll do a little damage (to no one of consequence, oh well) before they take you out.

But if you actually believe that because you have a cache of weapons in your house the government will be too scared to come after you or will try and you’ll make them back off and go away… that’s delusional fantasy.

I’m sure the Branch Davidians had way more weapons than you do and the government came after them with a Bradley armored tank, tear gas and an army. Burned down their compound, killed women and children and anyone else they felt like killing. Their weapons cache didn’t mean shit.

So again, what am I missing in the mentality? Unless you’re aligned with 1000s of others like you who will coalesce together in an instant to oppose a government incursion you’re easy pickings.

And no I’m not interested in taking your guns away, don’t care. I just don’t see this as a reality based strategy, more like a Rambo based self delusion. Which you’re entitled to. But if there’s a part of this equation that I’m missing educate me, I’m all ears.

Kathleen McCroskey's avatar

Exactly. There is no way you can counter an imperial power that turns its oppression inward on its own people. A general strike would be more effective. Sit down, don't move. Alternatively, I have some aluminum tubes, you could start enriching uranium...

gypsy33's avatar

Of COURSE I’m speaking of taking out as many of them as possible before they off me. And I have a pretty decent arsenal.

AnalogMan and Kathleen McCroskey, I am impressed by your reasoning and insight. An individual owning a gun against The Military Industrial Complex is not the answer. See what that has wrought in the USA .... daily gun violence.

Both are supporting the few (the extremely wealthy few?) against the freedom of the many and, these few are not even citizens of the countries supporting them. Are our so-called democratic governments turning zionist israeli and treating their citizens as it treat Palestinians?

Western propaganda about Tiananmen Square has been convincingly refuted since1989:

https://www.qiaocollective.com/education/tiananmenreadinglist

Chang Chokaski's avatar

Actually, no. This is alternative Chinese propaganda attempting to control the narrative about Tiananmen square. While the West often exaggerates such events (in magnitude, impact, etc.) and human rights violatations of its enemies, there is an INCREDIBLE amount of EVIDENCE and FACTS on such events (including eyewitness testimonies) that lays bare the truth.

Just as the West engages in revisionist history, so too do other nations (China, India, Russia, etc.). If you study historiography (which is the study of history), you will find that 'those currently in power' frequently engage in revisionist history strategies to maintain the narratives that are beneficial to their regimes. This holds true across the board (i.e. regardless of which nation we are talking about).

Within China, discussion, images, and commemorations of the 1989 crackdown are tightly controlled and censored; digital searches, social media, and public memorials are blocked or removed.

Sources of evidence: Eyewitness testimony (journalists, foreign diplomats, protesters, medical staff), photography and video (some smuggled out), hospital and burial records, academic research, and declassified diplomatic cables. These sources vary and have gaps, which is why exact casualty counts and some details remain contested.

Tom's avatar

Awesome compilation. If you're talking to western liberals about the Tiananmen Square myth, also provide this from the Columbia Journalism Review. It holds sway with shitlibs who still buy the Empire's evil lies.

I know very little about the reasons for the protests, nor do I take a side. I don't know enough about modern-day China to have an opinion on its rights or wrongs, nor is it my business, unless it threatens world peace/climate/ecological collapse (which most 'developed' nations do). I do know that students were killed there, though. That's what I was referring to.

Tom's avatar
Dec 21Edited

"...students were killed there..." is so vague and devoid of context as to be meaningless. The Chinese state did not systematically (or even in coordinated fashion) just line up and shoot innocent "students." The "students" carried out the vast majority of the violence. Even the famous photo of the "student" bravely standing in front of an approaching tank is hokum. The tanks were LEAVING the square after the "student" riots, not heading there to fire on innocent people. You really should peruse the collection of links you've been provided when you have time. You'll find that breaking down the Empire's lies and propaganda, even on long-ago events, the "truths" you've embraced or been force-fed over the decades are almost always lies and distortions.

for more info on the Tiananmen Square incident(s):

https://swprs.org/tiananmen-square-massacre-deception/

CBS NEWS: “We saw no bodies, injured people, ambulances or medical personnel — in short, nothing to even suggest, let alone prove, that a “massacre” had occurred in [Tiananmen Square]” — thus wrote CBS News reporter Richard Roth.

BBC NEWS: “I was one of the foreign journalists who witnessed the events that night. There was no massacre on Tiananmen Square” — BBC reporter, James Miles, wrote in 2009.

NY TIMES: In June 13, 1989, NY Times reporter Nicholas Kristof – who was in Beijing at that time – wrote, “State television has even shown film of students marching peacefully away from the [Tiananmen] square shortly after dawn as proof that they [protesters] were not slaughtered.” In that article, he also debunked an unidentified student protester who had claimed in a sensational article that Chinese soldiers with machine guns simply mowed down peaceful protesters in Tiananmen Square.

REUTERS: Graham Earnshaw was in the Tiananmen Square on the night of June 3. He didn’t leave the square until the morning of June 4th. He wrote in his memoir that the military came, negotiated with the students and made everyone (including himself) leave peacefully; and that nobody died in the square.

Tom's avatar
Dec 22Edited

A) They DIDN'T drive over that or any other person.

AND -

Either B) that person was a "student" who knew they were leaving and decided to stage a photo-op, which was gleefully eaten up by western anti-China anticommunist media to the point it became iconic, just like the photo of the little girl after the My Lai massacre (another iconic photo which has its own less than savory twists - the credited photog who went on to fame and fortune wasn't really the person who took that shot).

Or C) It was the Chinese Communist Party who staged the photo (see the "Tank Man" Wikipedia section on that theory).

Either way nobody got run over by any tanks during those protests.

Tom's avatar

https://www.cjr.org/behind_the_news/the_myth_of_tiananmen.php

It was the US-backed "students" who started the riots and the killings. These "students" torched entire buses of Chinese government police armed only with nightsticks. You've been lied to again and didn't even notice.

If you want to talk about gunning down protestors that actually did happen, try Kent State or the Maidan Coup in Ukraine.

Nina Felshin's avatar

Thanks, Tom. Tiananmen Square is one of earliest color revolutions. From the NED website: https://www.ned.org/tiananmen-square-massacre-anniversary-ned-stands-in-solidarity-with-chinese-partners/ They do more than stand in solidarity...

Tom's avatar

Fucking ridiculous. It's like the "Holodomor" or the Taiwan "student" protests or - as you noted - so many other color revolutions. I'm gonna say it again: this isn't just about Gaza/Palestine/Israel. The "Western" power structure would not be so ferociously opposed if "globalize the intifada" actually meant "kill the Jews." The real threat is the EXPOSURE of the ugly reality behind the mask of The Free World, Liberal Democracy, yadda yadda, which the Gaza situation has been so radiantly providing--when the NATO alliance are all insisting that arming a genocide is the right thing to do and their citizens can SEE the horrific reality every fracking day...it's hard to stay asleep. And once more and more people wake up, they're likely to question much more than that one thing, horrible as it is. Like, why is my government doing nothing real about climate change? Why the FRACK are we pouring money into NEW nuclear weapons? Why do the media, including so many supposedly opposing ones, speak in lockstep on so many issues, even using the same words? Why are the major parties and the nedia pushing the rapid expansion of data centers for AI, despite AI, despite all the harms caused by both AI and data centers? Why, once I look into independent media, do I see so many stories about miscarriages of justice, about pollution causing disasters which taxpayers are expected to pick up the tab for? Why are rich countries all turning toward blocking entry by immigrants? Could it be that the division of the people of my country into two opposing camps, so convenient for the rich and powerful, is no accident? A world in which the world steps in to rescue the Palestinians is a world in which we step in to rescue ecosystems, endangered species, future generations, the poor. Can you imagine people all over the world uniting to overthrow the power structure and put humanity's resources toward solving problems, healing ecosystems, ensuring that everyone has enough (which means no longer can some have too much) and we terminate war? Perhaps the ruling class can, and it's the stuff of their nightmares. Globalize the intifada!

We are facing a bottleneck not seen in human history for thousands of years. To get through the time of violent climate change, resource depletion, biodiversity loss, nuclear proliferation, among other crises, with 8 billion humans--probably four times what's sustainable--we need immense solidarity. Cooperation. A refusal to accept any stories about certain kinds of people not deserving to be rescued. But instead we hear all this crazy shit about "we have to win the AI race with China" for example--why? Why do we have to win anything against China, why don't we cooperate instead? And why shouldn't we eject AL, let China have it? The risks and downsides are enormous, the benefits trivial. Sometimes it seems like there aren't a lot of grownups.

Those who were silenced while living in a so-called free society know full well that the platitudes about freedom, justice and liberty for all, was a big fat lie. It seems, that now the rest of society is beginning to see, feel and protest about what the disenfranchised in these so-called "free" societies have been screaming about since forever.

Their attack upon the US's liberty continues to this day.

When liberty does not serve them they attack it, ******just as they are doing in Australia today.*****

They want to control the narrative, your voices, your beliefs.

Evidence of their success can be found in the USS Liberty attack. Ask an American about the attack and you will get a full spectrum of responses. Americans are not taught about what really happened, in fact silence is the best option. (Ask a dual loyalist, like an AIPAC member, and they are unanimous in their response.)

On the fiftieth anniversary of the USS Liberty Attack I searched the media high and low for mention of it. Water in a desert.

The big news that week was the release of Wonder Woman (2017). It was treated like a huge social event for the benefit of the indoctrinated that pushed all other news aside

Unsurprisingly, the star of Wonder Woman was a "former" member of the IDF. I kid you not.

The fiftieth anniversary of the USS Liberty Attack came and went with barely anyone aware.
