Another excellent and informative piece from Ms Johnstone. This situation presents the Left in the USA and UK with a dilemma: how do they reconcile their adoration of Joe Biden with this? I suspect that we'll see a lot less activism on Mr Assange's behalf than we did when it was so easy to blame the persecution on Trump. I hope I'm wrong and that Mr Assange is freed soon.

There is not one Democrat in the entire U.S. that “adores” Joe Biden.

This piece is tripe - not that I have come to expect anything less from Ms. Johnstone. Stealing government secret correspondence, spraying it all over the floor and telling people to knock themselves out to find government secrets is not journalism. In many ways, it is the opposite of journalism. Philip Graham said journalism is the first draft of history. This is the first shitstain of history. Contextless, insightless, and distracting those like Ms. Johnstone from seeing what the hell is actually going on. Julian Assange is not worth this kind of - well, I was going to say “attention” but it’s actually hero worship not unlike what the right is doing with our orange former president.

The First Amendment of the US Constitution states: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Bravo many times over to Ms. Johnston’s reporting. Julian Assange will go down in history as one of the greatest hero’s of our time.

"Nothing about this has changed." Beg to differ, Caitlin. Everything has changed. No speech that contradicts official narratives will be tolerated. They'll attack the highest profile first, like Assange. After they punish Assange, they'll work their way down the list until they get commenters like me.

When Trump was president, there was a certain balance of power between him and the US intelligence agencies. Now it’s full alignment of thinking and interest in all corridors of the government. We’re going to war and my bet is with Russia or Iran.
