The fact that Peter Thiel, Palmer Luckey, and Donald Trump are all in for AI, to the point where critics are likened to traitors or the antichrist, tell us all you need to know.
I think the idea that technology is in any way utopian and able to save us died at least a decade ago. Yanis Varoufakis articulated its evils well in Technofeudalism, and most people now think AI is probably going to kill us or at least the planet. We passed the tipping point of it being useful and potentially progressive, and now it has eaten itself. Hopefully humanity can now see that intelligence in and of itself is meaningless unless it’s in the service of the greater good for humanity and the planet. I’d take a good heart any day over a good brain. That’s why most people prefer dogs to people! ❤️
So clearly and succinctly stated. IMO the greatest period of Human existence was likely 6000 years ago before widespread centralized power came about. The manipulation of populations via superstitions such as religions and divine rule has led directly to totalitarian forms we live under today. Every previous known so called advanced civilization fell because they developed technologies that stripped the land of resources and out paced their ability to feed and house themselves. Wars and conflict can only exist when large groups willingly take orders blindly following someone who has filled their heads with lies, propaganda, and empty promises they can not resist. More so today than any previous generation because of technology.
Humans 6000 years ago had already started having societies and extended trade in areas from Present day Iran and upper Africa, Nile and also across South America. They weren't Cave men. That was some 20000 years ago or more. What school teaches about pre history is fantasy. Hopefully though Our invasive species will never escape this Prison planet to spread our devastation across the universe.
" Wars and conflict can only exist when large groups willingly take orders blindly following someone who has filled their heads with lies, propaganda, and empty promises they can not resist." It was not that long ago that a group could get rich by conquering other groups. Albert Einstein said Germany got into World War One in an attempt to get rich as their ancestors had done in 1870. But industrialized war was much more destructive than the old school ways so everyone lost.
Nowadays war is always a big net loss but highly profitable for a few favored groups with strong political influence.
Benjamin Franklin was of the opinion that native Americans had a better way of life than European immigrants. He noticed that white kids kidnapped and raised by the tribe stayed with the tribe, while native children raised by the white man chose to return to the tribes.
Thousands of Frenchmen went native in what is now Alberta, hunting buffalo and living in tipi. They sent their kids back to Montreal to be educated.
Rejected Quaker refugees from Massachusetts found refuge with natives in Rhode Island.
General Sherman of civil war fame was named after much admired Chief Tecumseh. His friends called him Cump.
Not so entirely true for the internet. Thanks to the internet people with different visions than those of the mainstream can express them and connect with other people.
It's not that what you say isn't true and positive, it's just that there is an asymmetric growth in which the negative seems to be growing much faster than any positive. We can now talk together over the entire world while there'a an ever increasing number of problems, many of which now have the potential to destroy the entire biosphere. That trade-off is a bad bargain, indeed.
The Biosphere is waiting for the brilliance of AI to show up and begin to elaborate master protocols to repair damage to the poisoned oceans, rivers etc., to repopulate the dead dirt w/ organisms necessary to turn it back into soil, etc. etc.
No? You say you haven't seen any evidence of AI brilliance in this arena?
The search for justice never ends! The Hind Rajab Foundation is tracking down Israeli criminals, and bringing them to justice. This is vital in the effort to hold Israel accountable. Techno-utopianism is a cartoon version of what is happening with AI and robotics, which have the ability to reduce the human workweek by half or more. Marx, a stern critic of utopian socialism addressed this issue : "In The Communist Manifesto (1848), Marx and Engels wrote:
“The bourgeoisie has created more massive and more colossal productive forces than have all preceding generations together.”
Marx was not denying capitalism's tremendous accomplishments. He considered capitalism a historically revolutionary system that transformed humanity's productive capacities.
But he believed those accomplishments could eventually make capitalist ownership relations an obstacle to further human emancipation.
In The German Ideology (1845–46), Marx and Engels argued that highly developed productive forces were a necessary condition for communism.
In his Grundrisse (1857–58), Marx wrote of the point at which:
“general social knowledge has become a direct force of production”
This is particularly relevant to artificial intelligence.
Marx recognized that accumulated scientific knowledge could increasingly become embodied in machinery, transforming society's ability to produce wealth.
AI takes that development into intellectual labor itself.
It can potentially reduce the human labor required for production, administration, research, and many other activities.
The fundamental question becomes: Who owns the technology, and who benefits from its productivity?
4. Marx: Abundance makes distribution according to need possible
In Critique of the Gotha Programme (1875), Marx described the higher phase of communist society as one in which:
“all the springs of co-operative wealth flow more abundantly”
Only with sufficiently developed productive capacity and transformed social relations could society realize his celebrated principle of distribution according to need."

Marx understood something many of his critics overlook: Communism requires the productive achievements of capitalism.
Capitalism develops technology capable of producing unprecedented wealth. Marx believed that this technological development could eventually make a society based on common ownership and distribution according to need materially possible.
Artificial intelligence may represent a decisive advance in that productive capacity.
Yet under capitalist ownership, a technology capable of liberating humanity from unnecessary labor can instead threaten workers with unemployment and poverty.
If technology enables society to produce more wealth with less human labor, why should human beings become poorer because their labor is no longer needed?
The answer is not found in technology itself, but in who owns it and who receives its benefits.
The ultimate promise of technological progress should be to free humanity from unnecessary labor—not to free capital from the necessity of employing humanity.
That is a distinctly Marxian way of interpreting the relationship between AI, capitalism, and the grievances motivating India's Cockroach movement."
The Cockroach movement in INdia shows how a revolutionary movement can use AI to challenge the status quo and gain power for "the lazy and unemployed.'
It seems quite obvious to me that the "Data Centers" will support massive drone deployment everywhere either controlled by Trump's "Super Intelligence" or remote law enforcement.
AI is controlled by our billionnaire overlords for now, but once its intelligence outstrips them (and us) the torch of control will be passed from humanity to AI.
Every “solution” creates several more new problems. 470+ approved chemicals, pesticides, etc in the air, water and soil linked to the most common cancer in women, so we develop ever more sophisticated—and expensive—treatments. Hormone disruptors are ubiquitous, in our food and packaging. Better living through chemistry? Does social media make up for human touch and audible laughter and watching the expressions change on the face of an actual human? Does this sound like a rational world? Techno-utopians search for solutions to problems that our techno-industrial world has created, and the feedback loop will never end unless our civilizational mindset and capitalist proclivities change foundationally. Techno-utopians are fools—extremely dangerous and powerful fools. They want to skip over the real work that humanity must do to raise consciousness and change fundamentally the stories we tell ourseves. Right now they are desperate to control the narrative and to convince us that the future that they envision is inevitable. But there is a wall somewhere and the blindfolds are ready for those who push this too far. On second thought, maybe we shouldn’t offer the would-be “masters of the universe” and of our fate blindfolds so they can see clearly how this all ends.

Nonsensical statement

Sure, but there are ways to be a little more discreet if you want and need to.

I don't know. Imperialism and capitalism have been in place for centuries now, while mass scale communication has always been one way only, until now.
So tell us of all the internet-enabled revolutions that took place. How many were sponsored by the CIA?
You know you are communicating through the internet now, do you?

More than likely, its going to destroy us
What will destroy us is our psychological immaturity - the technology will just be the rope we use to hang ourselves with.
Precisely!

Nice use of AI, Dale. Apparently, Marx now is an oracle, never to be questioned.
Anyway, I suppose AI Dale is better than Regular Dale.
