I agree with that, however it isn't a really good military strategy to simply shoot things down without knowing what they are, it could be dangerous. Strange that our defense really does act like in the movies, however shoot first and ask questions later seem to be the norm in the US.
I call it "the Rambo effect" to shoot down things that we don't know what they are.
