I can't remember when I first realized Israel was all wrong. About 50 years ago, I was having a discussion with 2 men who considered themselves in the know about wars etc. I said "well, maybe Israel was a great idea, the only problem is that the country they chose already had people living there". I was told to go back to grade one. I only ever met one Israeli that I remember. He was in my journalism class and he hated what the Israelis were doing to the Palestinians. I don't know where he went after that. I live in a Jewish neighbourhood now and I have had one encounter in the produce store when I didn't buy Israeli produce. A woman asked me if I didn't like Israel. I paused and then said I didn't like what Netanyahu is doing. She declared that I must love Hamas then. Well, at least the store owner does not get produce from Israel any more.
Zionism was the problem that time. They were taught that they were the "chosen ones" and that Palestine was theirs. It is always a problem when one group of people decide that it is a good idea for them to take over someone else's land. It was a big problem in America too, where the indigenous people were referred to as "savages" and that genocide happened.
There were genocidal moments in the colonising of the US but it was not the policy or intention from the start. The British were colonised violently a dozen times as were most Europeans. Indeed, as have been most humans.
In the past half century some truths have come to light about the past and more fabrications have been created. Retrofitting modern values to the past is never wise.
people committing genocide use the same language, yes, and then apologists for these various genocides justify it, the way you absolve genocide by western countries. the context is the Americans were committting genocide against the native inhabitants that interfered with colonisation, as the Israelis are committing genocide against the Palestinians, again because they are a hindrance to colonisation. for some reason you seem to support genocide unless committed by Israelis against Palestinians.
As you very well know, the argument is whether the American committed genocide, you lie about that repeatedly, lately by claiming it is "retrofitting values". it's all bullshit. I"m not going to waste any more time on you.

The problem was not that people lived in Palestine but that the Jews decided they were subhuman and had to be exterminated.

who said "the only good Indian is a dead Indian?"
telling the truth about the past is not retrofitting anything.
probably a lot of people. just as the Romans said, only good Briton is a DEAD BRITON.
condemning those in the past without context is retrofitting. Your quote is unproven and without context
you're giving the israelis hope.

I think you have it backwards -- They want lebensraum, but can't justify it if the "natives" are human (equals), so they must be made into vermin.
More complex than that but in essence, yes.
Not true. You don’t know your history.
