I was lucky enough as a college educator to have the flexibility to be able to draw that experience into my courses, and engage students away from rote bullshit even in large classes; of course, the learners loved it, the lazy ones hated it. But that was also just pre-smartphone mania, You couldn't pay me enough to go back into a classroom today.
True story: A former business acquaintance of mine, an American CEO who flew his own small airplane to meetings, once asked me (this was in the 90's) if Iran had any airports!
I suspect the average American politician is even less informed.
