We've seen this pattern over and over again. Most clearly with COVID, where the waters get "muddied" with as many different stories as possible until anyone trying to find out "the truth" is confronted with so many different experts and so many different possibilities, it is impossible to know what that truth is.
An excellent example of this is the handling of the Ukraine war on Reddit. Each sub has a different perspective and amplifies that perspective repeatedly. If one posts a comment that questions "cannon", they are immediately banned -- permanently. Eventually, one might locate a sub where some honest discussion can occur, but they are small.
Yeah, they don't seem to tolerate anything that upsets the narrative! I used to go on there regularly, but it veered on the toxic side of things, especially in the political subs. Can't reason with the irrational!
FWIW: the r/wayofthebern is the one place where I've found rational discussion. They ban no one, but they may require "idiots" to include the phrase "i like turtles" in their posts.
Sometimes even those guys have good points to consider.
On purpose.
