The idea that humans are the only intelligent life in the universe is the very hubris that got us to this point. And thinking we're the superior species on Earth is demonstrably delusional. We're not even intelligent; an intelligent species doesn't foul its own nest, doesn't destroy its own land base. An intelligent species doesn't wipe itself out. What the intelligentsia and horse-faced academic clods mistake for intelligence is actually congenital insanity. The only difference between humans and the rest of the natural world isn't that humans are uniquely intelligent, but that they're uniquely insane. Perhaps a long overdue acknowledgement of this fact is what is needed to mitigate the rampaging hubris that we operate under? Even a nominal reduction in that conceit would be nominally beneficial. Most tragically, those in power are more captured than anyone else by the hubris embodied in the claim of the superiority of unique human 'intelligence' and the carte blanche it bestows, which places them, more than anyone else, beyond the reach of reason -- and which places the rest of us and the living world in a uniquely grave peril.
I would completely agree accept that we chose the word and beat every other living thing on earth with our superiority of “intelligence”. We can’t now that we are at the pinnacle of “intelligence” and reaping the whirlwind, just change the definition to insanity and sit in our peril. If you look around, some of the least “intelligent” species are the most successful. Mushrooms for instance—extremely successful. And beneficial. 🍄 🤗. What can we learn from them? Or what can we learn from a non-theistic religion (Buddhism) about intuition, personal energy control, consciousness, peace of mind? We have the answers—they are all around us. It just seems to me that we have to stop being so ignorant and relying on our western “The Enlightenment” values, that have gotten us here to this insanity, and it would be good to recalibrate and reach for real enlightenment, personal enlightenment. Then maybe we will stop collectively creating the fertile ground for our “insanity” to flourish in. Here endeth the lesson. 😆😂🤣
Very true. The "Enlightenment" is the most overrated era in human history, and the socio-political/religious/philosophical spawn of its hyper-reductionism and hyper-individualism are what keeps the western world from real enlightenment. In any case, in no case do I suggest we "sit in our peril". :)
Caitlin does have a point though. i.e. We have yet to have complete inarguable proof other intelligent life does exist. Even though the Nimitz incident of UAPs and other incidents do seem to point to possible other intelligent life. But if other Intelligent life does exist, it hasn't literally landed on our planet yet and announced itself to us. Instead we have objects being clearly reported as UAP incidents by credible sources, but if it is intelligent life (or intelligent AI, or robotic scouts) it appears to want to avoid us for now.
There are also some other arguments against the possibility of other Life out there. The question of how life begins is still a huge enigma in science. For one, even though evolutionary science does help explain how life evolves (to some extent) - current evolutionary science does not provide a working, proven theory on how life began. The so-called "primordial soup" theory has gotten nowhere in the scientific lab, and the more scientific knowledge we have accumulated regarding the absurdly complex anatomy of cell structures, DNA, and the question of the required early replication in the exact order required for life itself remains an unresolved one, and ridiculously unlikely *even if* one considers the entire universe as a possible primordial soup of chance interactions.
