It is the other way around: capitalism is the system that controls the people who work in it. And that system is very widely distributed. The corporations are multinational; they have no national loyalty. The US plays a central role because of its military power and economic power. But you could remove all the people at the top and they would quickly be replaced and the system would keep chugging along.
