I was at my sister-law’s house the other morning when she came into the living room and turned on Fox News and low and behold they were talking about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict(of course they referred to it as an Israeli-Hamas conflict) in Gaza. The person on there mentioned something about a ceasefire and my sister-law said something like I hope there isn’t a ceasefire or something along those lines. I asked her why did she not want a ceasefire and she just started talking about how Hamas has hostages and they killed innocent people. I didn’t deny that, but I said the Israeli Defense Forces were bombing hospitals, homes, apartment buildings etc. in other words civilians, not Hamas. I told her this is a genocide and she really just went off on me and said so you’re on the side of the Palestinians. I tried to explain to her that Israel was murdering civilians, of which over half of them are children. The point being that this is a genocide and she called it a war and said war is horrible, but Israel has to do this because Hamas are holding hostages and blah blah blah. People don’t want to steer away from the msm on this issue and of course Fox News is biased toward Israel anyway and won’t talk about the atrocities committed by the Israelis really since 1948 against the Palestinians. It became a shouting match with her yelling & screaming at me. This is all to say how people are very emotional when it comes to this conflict. As horrific as the Hamas attack was on 10/7/23, it doesn’t justify Israel taking it’s collective punishment/vengeance out on women and children, especially the children, whom have nothing to do with voting for Hamas. I’ve done some research and from what I’ve read recently atrocities were committed against the Palestinians way before there was Hamas. But of course one can’t say stuff like this without being called antisemitic which couldn’t be further from the truth.

I have had similar problems when I have tried to talk about this to someone who only listens to the mainstream news or who thinks it is antisemitic to say that Israel is committing genocide right now as we watch and listen.

Something similar happened to me at a Halloween party. Long story short, I threatened to put my fist down my insufferable sister in law’s throat. If hubs hadn’t grabbed me and said WE’RE LEAVING NOW! I just might be in the pokey.
This has forever altered my relationship with my in-laws. I never want to see the lot of them again. Just as well; they were all raised shit-for-brains Baptist.
