I’m sorry that happened to you, Kevin. And I totally believe you, since similar experiences happened to my brother-in-law’s wife growing up.
You are correct in that I grew up in an affluent neighborhood, which was in no way “integrated” back then ( even though I describe my family as “not quite white”.)
I did attend parochial school with a number black students and were friendly with them.
The dearest friend I’ve ever had in my life was a black woman. I will never again experience friendship like I did with her. Sadly she moved far away many years ago.
