So I read Lee Smith, and all he does is make opinionated pronouncements, where I was expecting some detailed history. I'm far more inclined to believe Jews native to Israel, who recognized and were so appalled by the racism implicit in seeing their Arab neighbors displaced for no valid reason that they were forced to reject Zionism -- have you read Miko Peled's, "The General's Son." That, my friend, is source material from the horse;'s mouth, not some BS from an observer with an apparent axe to grind. And in defense of gypsy, I myself am first-generation, my parents here from Italy early 20th Century. And when they restore Manhattan to its original inhabitants (HA), I'll fucking rejoice as they demolish those monuments to disaster capitalism, which already stole my parents house under eminent domain for peanuts in 1974 -- to build a police station as my dad lay in Florida recovering from a stroke. You think I give a fuck? Think again. And get a fucking grip on the reality as Miko's mom described it. Jews, Christians, Muslims lived in Palestine as neighbors, until Zionists couldn't bear the thought that any sort of social order could be valid other than that described in a set of ancient fucking FABLES. Unimaginably sick shit.

Well said, Vin! Your knowledge and eloquence always impressed me.

I have a bit of the Italian myself, being Mediterranean 🙂

Couldn't help myself, gypsy, My Brooklyn street hackles popped up bigtime at this bullshit about large numbers of Jews being there, as if no one else was; plus ignoring the fact that most of the ultimate Jewish inhabitants, including Mr. Satanyahu, were Askenazics from Ukraine, Poland etc.; hardly native. And the 1970's stoner lingo comment got my Dago blood really boiling. Would like to see my 1970 self greet his 1970 self on a Brooklyn street. We'd see what the outcome of that confrontation would yield. No bullshit artist allowed in my old neighborhood without confrontation.

Uhhhuh. I just bet you are a real Luca Brasi type. I can tell. Ex college professor and all. Romans. Perhaps the biggest colonizers in all of world history, one of whom now complains that there weren’t enough Jews in old Palestine or old Judaea to justify Israel. Of course, the Romans have quite a history with the Jews in Judaea, right? Your historical hatred, Dago blood boiling and all, showing a bit? You can give your NY Brooklyn tough hackles rest. From one old man to another. I’m Scotch Irish.

Meaning, you’re not REAL Irish. Your ancestors were sent by the British to occupy Northern Ireland. Fuckin’ Proddie colonizers!

Well, since the beginning of Mankind, we’re all colonizers.

I don't know. Luca Brasi tendencies perhaps when I hung out on the streets as a teen, but I think those have evaporated with the breakdown of my body. Those postures require energy I don't have any longer. Yeah maybe the dago blood boil comes from Rome via Mussolini and all deluded pseudo-conquistadors. It's a quandary. My neighborhood gang was an interesting mix of Dagos, Micks and Polish Jews, but that's NYC; growing up multicultural.

Vin, your comment literally made me laugh out loud… I love it!

Us Flintstones take no bullshit either! I may be a country hick now, but it’s something I had to learn; I wasn’t born that way. I too have the Mediterranean temperament and I just cannot let shit go!

You can take the girl outta Flint, but ya can’t take Flint outta the girl 😉

Similar experience when I arrived in NM. I had to learn to modulate my approach to bullshitters because folks took immediate offense to my direct manner, which they described to management as aggressive. Poor pampered babies, I thought, while learning to get along for the sake of better cooperative working conditions. "Sorry, it's just my NYC style," I'd apologize. But I was always a bit resentful that they couldn't distinguish directness from aggression. Ultimately, a good lesson for me in the age-old truth that resentment is the poison we drink expecting the other person to die.
