Prevailing mythology. There is the surface myth of the moment, but also the Myths that go back centuries and millennia that shape people's thoughts; the thought manipulators of the present are only the latest technicians on the scene. "Science" became "Religion" under the Covid Regime, for example. To an unknown but certain extent, the individual's consciousness is already shaped by myths and stories that lead to certain cognitive interpretations of events that will tend to reinforce the original, a priori, bias. Not the biggest fan of Plato here, but he was on to something with his Allegory of the Cave (Plato as philosophical "cave man"?)

Plato presumably created those ideas with the intent that they be propagated and accommodated widely. Except among the army of labor. Nobody wants an overeducated serf, least of all King Arthur as played by Graham Chapman. And except for the two motifs that underlie the Greek episteme, Unity and Subordination. Tell people that and they'll figure out it's all fan fic.
