Oh Geez, the stories I could tell you. For about 10 years, early 90s, a chemist colleague and I did an integrated physical-biological science curriculum for college freshmen, and what it revealed about their underlying misconceptions was stunning. Then we tried to work with some HS science teachers, and the resistance to natural science integration (as though the fundamental principles shouldn't apply across them) was a further stunning indicator of why the standard US HS-educated American is in deep caca when it comes to genuine science ed.
