It hasn't always been that way for 300,000 yrs homo sapiens live in egalitarian, sharing and non-violent communities but that changed with the Ag Revolution when the new institutions based on surpluses and the concept of property arose including masters and slaves, inequality, social classes, top own rule, religion to justify, war to enforce and steal. Our basic humanity from that long period of evolution is still altruistic, but undermined by institutions that arose to create what we call civilization. How this transition from egalitarian to hierarchal took place is not yet totally understood, but it cannot exist without the concept of property, which did not exist for our long evolution.
Today, scientists tell us that while trust in inherited, distrust must be learned. The military creates killers by stripping individuals of their autonomy and teaching them to hate. They have to suppress the inherent disapproval of violence and then use dehumanization of the "enemy" to create young men eager to kill total strangers who have never done anything wrong to them. What takes place in transforming young men taught "not to hit" into killers is a process that mirrors the transition of homo sapien communities from sharing societies into aggressive, acquisitive warriors.
My guess is that to reclaim our evolutionary heritage (still somewhat preserved in the family with its communal "From each according to his abilities to each according to her needs) , we must reshape the meaning of property and reclaim the commons which belong to all, which can be done in a thousand ways, from taxation (redistribution ) to workers coops and labor unions, from making industries public utilities, and above all, by replacing the current plutocracy with democracy. It won't happen without great effort, disruption, violent resistance, and massive propaganda against the efforts to end wars, exploitation, and environmental degradation and create what we were promised in the US founding document, "equality and consent of the governed. " that radical idea started a revolution and and it will take a revolution to create it.

While "hanging out here" I've encountered many good new ideas and strategies for taking actions - 'course, they need to be adapted to local laws and regulations.

David, my apologies. I agree, and posted that comment out of frustration. I live in a state surrounded by highly propagandized people who consider themselves quite intelligent. I too have been "aware" since the 70's but it seems those that were in that camp back then are no longer thinking critically.

Such a great question: how the fuck did a lying rapist/ fascist like Trump get elected in a country of people most of whom are not lying rapists or fascists. I think the answer is that money is God, and God has spoken, through billionaires like Musk who coughed up 250 million to elect Trump (1/1600th of his wealth and the rightwing AIPAC which spent more to defeat progressives with rightwing stooges than any group in history, money money money.....which is why Marx envisioned communism as abolishing money (ie circulated wealth, which can be accumulated and thus concentrated) and "private property (not personal possessions but wealth used to make wealth like rental property, stocks and bonds, etc). When we abolish money, we may use labor vouchers which are earned and expire on use (not accumulation), and we will reclaim the older social contract based on mutual debt and mutual aid, which is calculated without money but on the basis of social relations (you help your friend move; he in turn helps you dig up your garden). It will take first an intellectual revolution to understand the concepts that form the foundation of the current system and then the imagination to reform a world based on mutuality, instead of the cold cash calculation that rules us today.
