The hypocrisy I find more interesting rather than actual "christianity" which there is a wide range, and various interpretations and use by those who would call themselves "christian" - i.e. some go to church regularly, others call themselves Christian out of convenience - simply were raised in a family that was christian.
As Caitlin writes frequently, Americans have been subject to some of the most sophisticated propaganda known to modern man over the last couple of decades. It's no wonder so many have become blind to the obvious corruption of their government, or so many are unaware of the chains of the exploitative system of labor and consumerism - that they must carry on their increasingly impoverished lives each day - as we have seen the ordinary American's quality of living plummet - while those obscenely rich at the top reap increasing gains of American productivity.
I am not as motivated as you to blame ordinary Americans for the system they now find themselves in - as the power has now become so concentrated, the propaganda so overwhelming - to me, the real problem in the country does not lie with ordinary Americans themselves (or their christianity), but the sociopathic assholes running the country, and exploiting the common goodwill of ordinary Americans - who I believe, if they could see the truth of the system for what it is - beyond the thick fog of propaganda and daily exploitation of their billionaire masters - there is a beating heart of good will - as John Steinbeck wrote about in the Grapes of Wrath.
I do not see Americans as lazy or complacent either. A great deal of ordinary Americans are very hard working - it's the corrupt exploitative system that so many must live with that is crushing the life and meaning out of so many Americans I find is the real evil. A crushing evil system that will eventually be the source of its own demise - as history tells us all tyrannies eventually fail - although sadly, usually with great cost to the stability of the given society.
I am happy to criticize with prejudice Americans who argue and incite and spew contempt in defense of the crimes of their government. Ignorance is no excuse in 2023. If Americans are enfeebled by propaganda, they aren’t asking questions, and would rather argue and make ad hominem attacks on people who do raise questions. I believe in education, but the loud “patriots,” probably God fearing (wink, nudge), aren’t interested in what may be true. They want to suppress criticism, as if that is a patriot act.
heh good reply. Humorous. Although, yes, the ignorant are like a tide of locusts in every epoch. And humankind progresses at its usual donkey slow pace, ever so slowly inching its way toward something better - one dares to assume.
What are we to do? Fight, ever fight against the tide of ignorance - as knights of this round table.
