I believe the population of the planet is figuring out how dangerous it is to live in the perception that humans are seperate from the rest of organic life.
Belief in a Source of life only becomes problematic if that source happens to be punative. People derive their understanding of "the Source" from their understanding of themselves (Meister Eckhart). Those who honor a punative Source, become punative themselves (Matthew Fox). This is why extreme fundamentalist Abrahamic ideologies fit so well with the operations of empire, they both believe that god has ordained them to punish those who do not comply with their wishes.
