Their noble position on Uighurs drips with irony - and of a vicious kind, because this group are well-off in China, especially considering the fact they were systematically radicalized in Afghanistan by the US in the 70s for the purpose of causing trouble in China. In the US they'd have been tortured, imprisoned, stripped of their citizenship and rights, probably in Guantanamo.
